  • Gotta love Sal's bemused expression as nutnfancy busts out his whip sounds and intros. Seriously though, why wasn't there a 2012 Spyderco SHOT booth review?

  • Oh man, <3 the Spydercos

  • Dude do the 3.5 review

  • Please review the sub hilt Vallatton veri!

  • @gendo1 I doubt you will see that review, too heavy, not enough traction, i dont think he will dig it.

  • @Kylef7735 I use it as an edc knife and you're right it is too heavy and the traction is a C- but as far as looks and strength go I haven't found another like it! My 2 cents.

  • @gendo1 It is a very cool lookin knife! That is for sure! and i do like the stop pins attached to the blade, its not really stronger than internal stop pins, i just find it cool, haha

  • shit polisher from a pro polisher

  • I want them all...

  • I like Nutn Fancy but he's such a Spicoli. Is he from southern Cali? Hes such a laid back duder

  • sal kicks ass

  • The main reason they make laws regarding guns or knives is to give you the idea that YOU (the citizen) CANNOT BE TRUSTED. Clever trick.

  • I like sal because he doesn't allow nutnfancy to interrupt and talk about himself. Way to go Sal!

  • @matty0566 Its not wether someone allows it or not, if the person talks great on their own, nutn doesnt have to interject, its when people are quiet and not good speakers that he talks more to direct and help the interview along.

  • It's always nice to see knife companies thinking about international customers. By doing that, not only are they making it easier for those overseas to buy a knife, but they're also getting more buyers unlike companies that don't even bother with trying to cater to international laws.

  • God Bless America for letting us carry locking 3+ inch knives.

  • that bush-craft should have canvas micarta handles

  • Man you need to do the 3.5 review!

  • "2% here is 10 bucks" LOL

  • dude u gotta do the 3.5 review, im in the market for one but i need your opinion first

  • You get a lot for the knife.

  • Amazing looking bushcraft knife wow

  • Great vids, both with Ed and Sal. Definitely going to pick me up a Ambitious, I have fallen in love with my Tenacious.

In case anybody from Spyderco reads this, the Tenacious had made me a life long Spyderco supporter now. I originally didn't consider Spyderco and was looking at SOG knives, but after my bad experience with the Aegis I went and got a Tenacious. I quickly found out it was MUCH higher quality for less than half the price.

But more options please! I want an all black version!!

  • Man he looks happy to be interviewed

  • 10:18 That's what she said:)

  • Want to see a Sage with a Tri-Ad lock, that'd be nice.

  • i'd just like to thank sal and everyone at spyderco for bringing out the uk legal edc blade range. as it stands they are probably the best option for knife enthusiasts in country's with these kind of ridiculous laws! I personally have the black frn and will be getting the titanium uk penknife very soon!

as allways a great vid from nutn ;)

  • i really like how sal always gives credit where credit is do like whenever he talks about a frame lock he always says reeve integral lock and they say michael walker liner lock

  • I plead wth sal glesser to keep the delica and endura ffg colored handle lines in place maybe ohh say, forever :D

  • man nutnfancy look like kenny holtz from kenny vs. spenny lol uncanny

  • @kakarot506 I can definitely see the resemblance.. -- Veri

  • The rationale behind these laws is so silly as to be completely untenable. How hard do you think it is for a criminal to get a knife or gun? Easy. A phone call. They get drugs and those are illegal. Taking away our weapons is helping the criminals and hurting responsible users. No two ways about it.

  • our knife laws suck here in the uk but at least i still have the privilege of this mans mark on my blade.

  • This past decade a chasm has grown between many LEOs and civilians. Being on the civilian side, it's as if theyre being trained that "the public is dangerous" and guns/knives/etc are for them and .mil only, and the teeth of the civilians are being pulled out one by one until we are only toothless cattle.

We need more LEOs on our side to voice their opinions, which carry more weight with police commissioners, ministers, and ultimately politicians.

    Thank you.

  • A few days ago I was victim of a Stop & Frisk search under 'reasonable suspicion', where the officers searched my belongings while I was riding a bicycle.

They found my Leatherman Charge TTi and became even more suspicious of my 'strange behavior'(cycling to go buy some milk).

Luckily they didn't notice my Spyderco D4 ffg clipped in my pocket or I'd have been fined/detained for sure, under our laws.

They were not TNPers, since I had to illuminate their report pad with my Preon 2 as they IDed

  • Nutn, seeing as you have a large LEO audience all over the world, I'd like to see you speak a little more about knife and firearms laws.

Perhaps you can have an influence on the officers who go out and arrest a guy/gal in a UK subway for having a 3.1" locking Spyderco clipped in their pocket.

  • I pre-ordered a fluted military today for $216 - street price is much more reasonable than MSRP on this knife it seems.

  • if spyderco comes out with a scandi folder i would totally buy it. I agree that a full flat grind cuts better than a hollow grind, but NOTHING cuts like a scandi.

  • @TalonTSI95 Nothing bites like a scandi, but a FFG slices better.

  • I just bought my first Spyderco, a Delica 4, a while back and I'm loving it. Life is good. Thx Nutn.

  • I can see how bushcrafters can appear "daft" or awkward to someone with a more regular urban life style. I'm not sure Sal Glesser meant it as a derogatory term but more like a kind of excentricity that some extreme bushcrafters may express when interacting with common people.

  • I did kinda resent his comment about bushcrafters. "Daft" is the last word I would use to describe what bushcrafters are. I'm from VA and practice bushcraft as a hobby, because you won't always have modern comforts with you.

I do appreciate how nutn respects other's trades, cuz I respect the hell out of what he does. Thanks for the videos and the time you take to review gear for all of us to watch.

  • wow wat rare footage!

  • Thanks for the video!

  • Sal is a real gentleman.

  • Great vid Nutn love Spyderco knives

  • hey nutn, I know you are swarmed with knives, but did you ever get a chance to check out the new paramilitary 2?

  • k this might sound bad but can anybody tell me if the lion strip is able to be purchased or wht the actual name is cause i went to spider co and i cannot find it in there list idk any info would be great also the super leaf is a beautiful blade

  • i just found out it's illegal in the Philippines to carry a knife PERIOD. :(

  • @ cryptomnesiac yeah they suck can't even get an auto sent to Ireland plus have to get all makes posted to me from uk, only victoriknox stocked here in general

  • Wow... Sal is a very well spoken and knowledgeable guy, he really knows his knives and his line up. Thumbs up to Sal and Nutn.

  • pardon my french, but uhh... fuck those european knife laws.

  • @cryptomnesiac i agree w you i dont like knife laws either. But i live in Austria and we have no restrictions at all. ( just saying it varies from different countries in Europe, just like it does in WITHIN the US)

  • @cschmiedlechner yes thats a good point, same should be said for firearms.

  • @cryptomnesiac

    Well put my man.

  • @cryptomnesiac What our european country don't understand (i live in Italy) is that Bad Guys will be always armed with Guns and Knives even with these laws! And at the same time if these laws are made for stupid child with knives (such as some in Italy or England) people don't understand that bad person use kitchen knives! As Nutnfancy says people are afraid of these and make stupid laws while they sit back in their homes, near their bodyguards while poor man will be consumed by these laws!

  • @cryptomnesiac i know right if your cought in possession with a knife its automatically an offense in Ireland ! witch sucks because i have loads of knives and cant do anything with them :(

  • @cryptomnesiac Hate to break it to you but many states in the USA have the same bs laws trust me. Here we can't have anything larger than 3" and it can't lock. In essence the only legal carry is a damn swiss army knife... Doesn't stop me from carrying my Kershaws but still all these pro tightpant emo p*ssy law...

  • @Rougewolf yeah well fuck those laws too

  • man Spyderco sure puts out gorgeous blades.. that blue Sage 3 is fantastic, also anything by Mr. Schemp

  • Great Video Nutn!

  • That glass braker was one of the most smartest and coolest thing i ever seen on a knife. ^^

  • Great job at the Spyderco booth and Sal did a great job with the interview. Thanks for the bringing the Shot Show to us! Please keep up the great work.

  • Great video, alot of good info

  • Unreal that the same Countries that took the guns away are now regulating small 3" knives. Wake up America it is on the agenda for us too. Thanx Nutn for bringing this to our attention. A small fact overlooked in this vid.

  • i have a stainless steel china army knife. tough sonofabitch but not as good quality as this 400 bucks blades. But still, for $3.50. Its cheap.

  • are they coming out with a fourth knife to the tenacious series

  • This camera work is abysmal, get a tripod and pay someone $20 to operate the camera

  • I'm just going to say it now- the Military needs to be upgraded a little. It really needs a tip up/down switchable clip like the Para 2, and I think the blade stock could stand to be a little thicker. If I had my druthers I'd wave it and change the steel out to something like Elmax. Elmax preforms like S30V but at a third of the cost or less.

  • @PRSpl4yer Dude, I totally agree, I've never understood the Mil's tip down carry....is it because Spyderco is afraid someone might stab themselves? Tip down is the only reason I haven't gotten a Milly.

  • @ratgurk I heard it was like like drilling into straight g10 could mess it up or something

  • @PRSpl4yer Sounds like some good ideas there. I personally want them to incorporate the features of the lion steel knife into the military. My dream uses ideas from the LionSteel, the Military, and the Perrin PPK.

  • @PRSpl4yer millie 2 is on the way...

  • Cool vid!

  • If 2% of a hot dog is 10 dollars which means the hot dogs are 500 dollars. Would be funny if that really was there cost in shot show. LOL

  • I got caly3 because you nutnfancy, one of my favorite knifes.

  • Tell them that we need more up/down switchable pocket clips! Sick of tip-up knives!

  • im not a real big fan of spyderco because they do not have 2nd type of cool for me. i can not stand the thumb hole in the blades.

  • @mastersniper13 yeah I know what you mean, i do have a couple and they function very well but I kinda end up carrying the more exotic knives... maybe if I could put down a couple hundred for one of their top knives I would change my mind.

  • Got bit by Spyderco bug, thanks nutnfancy.

  • I love spyderco!!! My personal favorite is the Delica II! Good to see this Spyderco Vid from the Shotshow! ;)

  • Is Sal wearing a Spyderco necklace? That's pretty cool

  • Spyderco for the most part imo is kinda boring, tons of the same knife with different slight variations on the steel and handle materials. Some are pretty cool, whats the new one with the wheel safety in the center?

  • I think Spyion sounds like a cool name for the lion steel folder!

  • @QuietBearr how about spydion?

or lion spyder? xD a lion spider is an actual existing spider

  • Thanks Sol for the UK Penknife. We finally have an outstanding blade when can carry every day in germany.

Rock on and make more slip joints!

  • @VinceFull yeah but not the best choice for self defence. Feststehende Messer die nicht als Waffe deklariert sind liegen mir ehr ;)

  • Up the "Street Beat" . Spyderco Clip-on folders can be a bit same-old-same-old , but i love fixed blade. But in passing, the folders tend to grow on you.

PFI is checking the booth-babes, any money.

Don't pander to fashist knife-law, when Spyderco does they are ligitimizing these wankers. In Australia the knife thing was realy a pre-amble to authoritarians attempt to create some of the harshest stop-&-search laws scince Oz was a Brittish Prison, which the people defeated, so there! Oz is wild.

  • Up the "Street Beat" . Spyderco Clip-on folders can be a bit same-old-same-old , but i love fixed blade. But in passing, the folders tend to grow on you.

  • what was that annoying whistling noise throughout the spyderco video's? sounds like a dentist drill or something.

  • I didn't care for the Persistence, but that Ambitious looks SWEET! I love those cute little folders.

  • Thumbs up for more shot show. Keep it up NUTIN!

  • I love spyderco's blades, I love their blade shapes. They are innovative and make quality products... but their customer service is severely lacking. The clip on my Stretch (a $70 knife) broke off. I called spyderco and told me it would be $10 for a new clip... 10 freakin dollars. Sorry, but that sucks. Kershaw sent me a whole new knife because one screw was stripped and let me keep the old one.

Until spyderco evaluates their CS, I won't buy another one of their products.

  • That's pretty funny. The advertisement I had to watch before another awesome video was a friggin cartoon.

  • @srtowner it must depend on were you are watching from..iv only had one adcome up b4 a vid that was on another persons channel and thats in 3 odd years of watching YT and almost 2 years of watch'n TNP... weird

  • Mr. Glessar was great! Really enjoyed his narrative.

  • I just finally picked up a Tenacious. It freakin' rocks! Nutn, why didn't you warn us that these things cut like a box knife? My thumb and forefinger bear the proof. I guess you shouldn't have to warn us not to cut ourselves.

  • Anyone else want Spyderco to make a KABAR alternative for combat/bushcraft/manliness?

  • @parkourmormon im gonna use a worrior for that lol

  • Caly 3.5 is way too much money.

  • what does Sal mean by powder steels?

  • @JSR990 Powder metallurgy is a forming and fabrication technique consisting of three major processing stages. First, the primary material is physically powdered, divided into many small individual particles. Next, the powder is injected into a mold or passed through a die to produce a weakly cohesive structure (via cold welding) very near the dimensions of the object ultimately to be manufactured. Pressures of 10-50 tons per square inch are commonly used, conti

  • @JSR990 Finally, the end part is formed by applying pressure, high temperature, long setting times (during which self-welding occurs), or any combination thereof. hope that answers ur question bro, u can always use google... =]

  • @JSR990 If the steel says CPM it is actually powderd steel, which is then melted together into the blade blank.

  • Sal rocks!

  • Safe bet that the Cali was not the only knife Sal was carrying . Just saying.

  • Dude you always complain about the lighting at SHOT but your vids turn out fine.

  • I love these vids Nutn but you're killing me with the roving camera! ;)

  • Hey Nutn, what is the price for the "lion spy" I didn't find it on spyderco website.

And again the prices. I'd like to purchase that even for four hundred, because in place where I live for that price you can buy blades such as ENDURA 4 FRN ~ C10BK. It's scary to think what would it be for "lion spy".

  • I wonder if carbon fiber can hold a decent edge?

  • @cmzangetsu1993 are you serious?

  • @TalonTSI95 Yeah, I guess... I was just thinking about how cool it would be to have a carbon fiber knife and how light it would be and was wondering if it would even hold an edge.

  • @cmzangetsu1993 no, it wouldn't be possible. carbon fiber is essentially layers of cloth and glue, any kind of edge on it would be inconsistent and full of micro-serrations. not very tough either. If you want a blade made out of something other than steel they do made ceramic blades.

  • @TalonTSI95 ceramic blades are great. They are really sharp but im not sure that thumping on them like a steel blade would be too wise though.

The are great for cooking though,

  • i love how spyderco gives credit to other manufacturers

  • Seriously, wtf.... no locking open? But I can still carry a fixed blade so how does this make knifes any less dangerous?

  • would you say that the ambitious is small enough to be put on a key ring?

  • @mannlicherfreak Not real bro, its just a smallest version of the Tenacious, its not a mini-knife by any means, look for the Spyderco Bug series if u want keychain blades.

  • I guess the ukpk would be the only thing I am interested in. I just can't reason with the prices on most of the blades. I much prefer my Kershaw blades. They have great value blades.

  • man I was waiting for a spyderco booth review. Hopefully we see your impressions on the New Para 2 in later parts. That is the new spydie model I want the most.

  • =/

  • What is "overtravel"?

  • Nice Video man! I am much more a Spyderco fan than other "mainstream" companies. I feel like you get a lot of bang for your buck. Paramilitary 2 rocks!!

  • You keep it in the sheath, dude ;)

  • Thanks Nutn, your shot show reviews rock!

  • take off the clip and throw it in my pocket?!?!?

  • Gret video! A lot of great blades!

  • Kershaw has got them whipped this year.

  • +++++

  • sal is a cool guy. his activity in the forums, willingness to credit other makers and companies, and no nonsense style set spyderco apart from other makers. thanks for the vid Nutn!

  • i love scandi grind, for fine wood work it bites just right.

  • Mr Glesser is quirky cool.... a great source of knife history, spydie legend and philosophy.... and you got him to join in with a joke..... I think he digs TNP a little more each year !

  • ahh the caly 3 was my first spyderco, now after 3 years i think it's time to upgrade to the 3.5! hope my other knives don't miss the pocket time :)

  • ....from 5:30....he talks about the knife laws in different countries.....i don´t carry a knife....not even in my car....because of the stupid knife laws in denmark....when i work in construction i sometimes need a knife....and it´s legal to bring what ever knife you need to the construction site.....but i can´t stop to buy milk on the way home....so if the american gun owners think that the gun grabbers will stop when they taken your guns....

  • @wanabee100 Det der pisser en mest af er vel, at nu hvor vi har den åndsvage lov, er der ingen udsigter til lempelser vedr, enhåndsbetjente knive...når man bare hungrer efter én spyderco.

  • He went though the fountain of Youth at the end. Is that his boy?

  • I wish they would fix the closed retention on the tenacious blade.I joined you and a long list of people who got bit by the blade opening in my pocket.

  • Awesome coverage! Thanks nutn and PFI. There really aren't any huge stand out blades shown here like Kershaw, but the thing is Spyderco makes so many awesome blades I've been wanting that it's better that my list doesn't get longer!

  • A huge Thank you to Sal Glesser for talking with you this year.He is such a huge icon and force in the knife industry.I love the company and their products.Even the overseas products are awesome for the money. The thought that goes into the designs and the selection are TOPS in my book. If you cant find a blade to fit your need from them, then you are a minority. They have something for everyone. Thanks to you NUTN for keeping us up to date on whats new.TNPr Dirty"sharp"Sanchez

  • The laws on knives here in Germany (and Europe) really suck:(

  • Comment removed

  • I bought my first spyderco because of nutfancy's videos. now I have over 10 of them, an plenty more to come

  • That superleaf? was really cool, I want one.

  • @ConditionRedDawn You and me both. Spyderco is one of my Kryptonites.

  • I feel richer just having listened to Sal talk for half an hour. I feel full. Epic knowledge-gain interview.

  • @sabr686 He did great in this review. Also he is very anti-camera. You will note that last year's interview he was not on camera much. He really understands the quality of the TNP audience now and it's size (after SHOT 2010) and made special time for it this year. He was an outstanding host and this is a fun, quality vid.

  • Comment removed

  • I luv the knife booths at the shot show this is what I've been waiting for!

  • @MrSparten123 Yeah baby!

  • I love it, EXCEPT for that back lock. Not conducive to easy one-hand operation, IMO. Besides that, the lock is inherently weak compared to a ball or frame lock. Why is it still in high line knives??

  • i'm disappointed he didn't talk about the spyderco ferrigno.

  • Love this spyderco rep. You can tell he isn't comfortable, but he's plowing through it.

  • @The3fingervic He's no ordinary rep ;)

  • @The3fingervic That's funny...he's no rep, he's the President/CEO of Spyderco Knives and the inventor of the clip function of folding knives. A legend if you will. His son Eric is an equal talent and, as spoken here, is designer of the homerun Tenacious family and the Manix 2.

  • The changing laws in other countries that Sal mentioned makes me happy to be where I am.

  • Man i got to get me the new bushcraft knife love it .

  • Great review dude. =D

Thanks for all your hard work,

  • @markshmily You're welcome! Thanks for saying so because it helps fuel me.

  • Sal is the man, i wish i can have just a fraction of the knowledge and experience as him. the man is a genius to the knife comminuty

  • great review nutnfancy thanks both you and PFI !

  • Awesome review! Thanks for posting.

  • I think Sal did an excellent job.

  • @jdouglasfisher Ditto! And remember these are "cold turkey" non-scripted reviews with no retakes. I just don't have time for them at SHOT (other booths waiting). Either you get it or I can't post the video in order to protect you from lots of criticism. Sal and Ed (Pt 2) both got it. There were five 2010 booth reviews that I never posted in order to prevent abuse to these hosts/manufacturers. Rock River Arms was one of them.

  • I swear Sal knows his stuff (or at least demonstrates it) more than any other knife maker I've ever heard or read. No marketing BS from him, just 30 years of knowledge and experience in quality and practicality. I love how he's not afraid to mention other companies like Strider and Gerber, and is open about the drawbacks of certain materials or designs. Really excited about that Lion Steel collaboration myself.

  • @An0nEeMouse That Lion Steel is sick. And you hit on a major reason I give them air time in TNP: honesty.

  • I wish we saw more scandi grinds. It's stronger and a better cutter than the v grind in that it functions as a diamond tanto piercer, allowing the steel behind the grind to slip in behind it without resistance. V grinds are great for finer tasks but the cut is more obstructed than a scandi since you get resistance all across the blade surface after the initial edge surface. It's a breeze to sharpen a scandi as well.

Cudos to Sal for a giving a shoutout to the scandi and uk bushcrafters.

  • @interista7878 Roger that. I learned something here as well and you're comment is outstanding and informational.

  • wow sal is one knowledgeable man! ps. love my caly 3.5

  • This guy was awesome!

  • That Super Leaf is awesome!

  • 10 million revenue every year !!! good job spyderco !!!

  • @Deep13Deep13Deep13 not the people just a few idiots that are disrespecting knives and the stupid government are getting involved :)
