  • the pilot was not checked out in this aircraft and was a student pilot. He had just put a down payment on the plane and beat the owner out of $15,000.00. He was also involved is a home buying ripoff scam and was convected and went to jail. This guy was a real dirt bag. The only time he had in flying time was about 9hrs in a Cessna 172.

  • @rmcrv6

for real? well he for sure will think next about ripping someone off nextime

    ts

  • @rmcrv6 Well, he was also a commercial certified helicopter pilot. He had *34 hours in a Skyhawk and yes, he didn't have any time or an endorsement for the plane he was in, an AA-1 Yankee.

Here's the NTSB report, just insert it after "ntsb.gov"

    /ntsb/GenPDF.asp?id=CHI07LA170&rpt=fa

  • The very next day.....

    golfers on Hole 3 .

Golfer 1: WTF THERES A PLANE ON THE GREEN

Golfer 2: Naaa stop trying to put me off again.

  • Looks like the wings absorbed most of the deceleration on small trees. The gear is bent backwards not up, that means he didn't stall it, like so many "experienced" Sport Pilots do. Grumman Yankee Good Pilot. Many Cessnas are stalled under same circunstances. They Panic Pull and stall.

  • I know you Todd, thru our late friend the P.I.

  • Didnt I see you at a Shoe Store?

  • Most AA-1 pilots are good. Its not a forgiving Cessna. Bad pilots are scared on the first flight due AA-1 are hot on landing on take off. I have about 400 hours on them.

  • Oh my gosh! That accident looks so spooky!

  • An AA-1 Yankee, originally was the Bede 1, then american aviation bought and built is a the yankee, then called AA-1,then grumman got in, the trainer, lynx, i forgot what else, I flew the first yankees back in the late 60's. Great ship, huge 50 g tube spar, bonded skins, tho was underpowered. Retrofitted with a lycoming 125-150 they really go. Some have been tailwheel modified with the big engines. Big brother was the AA-5 Traveler, Cheeta and the Tiger. I Also flew the bede5 jet. Thanks, Jim.

  • looks like a Vans rv 6 or 7

  • wherez da plane

  • I can't beleive the guy made it.

  • so the guy was just in a plane crash, and you put him in a helicopter. irony

  • Not irony

  • Glad the guy was alright...! Good footage. 5 stars.

  • This guy was lucky only in that he was flying the right aircraft to hit a tree with!

I fly one of these aircraft - the passenger area is a box made of alloy honeycomb and is immensely strong in any accident.

Also the pilot and pax sit on top of the wing carry-through spar which is a tubular structure - also very tough and great for impact absorption.

  • I remember hearing about this happening. I live in Lansing.

  • If I read the tail number correctly!!! N5651L Serial Number: AA1-0051 Owner: TXXXXX RXXXXXXX J XXX W RAINXXX DX GLENWOOD , IL 60425-1311 Aircraft Manufacturer: AMERICAN Aircraft Model: AA-1 Number of Engines: 1 Type of Engines: Reciprocating Number of Seats: 2 Average Cruise Speed: 108 Aircraft Wight: CLASS 1 Year of Manufacture: 1968
