Pele is becoming a bit of a joke with all his comments. Slandering messi and championing brazilian players and himself. Come on anyone who knows anything about football can see messi is the best ever. Saying you have to do it at a world cup is ridicilous, a worked cup is 7 games every 4 years, messi does it week in week out to a level pele never could. Big deal he scored alot of goals in the brazilian league, so could messi.
In 1985 it was still possible to win Serie A by simply knuckling down and defending the box, which was Verona to a tee. They were extraordinarily well-coached, which is how they managed to beat the likes of Juve, Udinese, etc. Serie A was stuck in the 60s, and a lot of contenders spent the season in transition. By the end of the decade the landscape had completely changed, Milan's Dutchmen and Arrigo Sacchi, Baggio, Maradona, etc. dragged it into the modern era, and attack won championships.
@Standardfrank LOL. In the late eighties and early nineties Serie A was a much harder competition to win than the Coppa dei Campioni/Champions League, and by the way, Napoli won the UEFA Cup with Maradona as well. Even Santos with it's star-studded lineup and 5 straight state championships couldn't match Independiente in the Copa Libertadores. Aside from Ciro Ferrara and Careca, Napoli was a below-average team with one great player, Maradona.
@IAMCANADIAN1998 Verona were also a below average team but won the League in 1985.
Actually Di Napoli, Bagni, Alameo, Ferrera and Careca were all great players. Theres 5 players who had 40+ caps for Brazil and Italy. You have to be a great player to have this many caps.
Verona had far fewer star players when they won the League. Pretty much a team of 5-10 cap Italians, and 2 foreigners Elkjaer.
The Italian League was limited to 2 or 3 Foreign players so wasn't a strong League.
@THEWARDSTER lol. You'd struggle pretty hard to find a league at ANY time that was stronger than Serie A in the late 80s & early 90s. 'I sette sorelle', Juve, Milan, Inter, Napoli, Fiorentina, Samp/Parma and Roma, all were contenders for the title, which is absolutely ridiculous. Italy was dominant on the international stage, winning in 82, 3rd in 90, 2nd in 94, and at the time every league limited its foreign players. Italy's was by far the strongest league at the time, anyone will agree.
People do realize that this was created based on what Pele told these animators he did, right? Maradona was the greatest player of all time, and he doesn't need to play make-believe because his goals are there for everyone to see. Pele just has an enormous ego and needs to constantly feed it, which is why he lives his whole life in front of a camera and calls up reporters all day.
@IAMCANADIAN1998 Don't be stupid. There was a packed stadium of both sets of fans, players from both teams, officials, newspaper men and radio commentary. Trying to discredit his achievements shows how insecure you are. Pele was not a cheat, unlike another number 10. You can stay living in denial, but legends like Puskas, Platini, Bobby Moore, Rivelino (Maradona's idol) and Beckenbauer just to name a few, all state emphatically that Pele is the greatest player of alltime.
Did you know he was declared "National Treasure" to avoid he would ever leave Brazil? They offered in Europa more than US$ 1 billion (at today's currency) to supress that status, but they were rejected by the brazilian goverment. If Pelé had played an European cup probably there will be no possible comparison with any other football player ever.
That Maradona could easily have been the best... we all agree that. But almosts don't count on football! You score or you don't, you are a champion or you are not, you loose, win or draw, with no approximations. Who was more talented? That is relative...who's the best? Definitely and objectively is Pelé, because he had and did what Maradona couldn't and he has all the numbers to confirm it. "Almosts" are excuses.
@thesickleone : Great Comments.
@alfredooo20@alfredooo20 He visto mucho de pelé.
@0lilKayde0 HA HA, yeah just summed a dumb pratt that you are, smilly wang!! What are you KKK or a Neo-nazi bumhole!!!!!!!! What a loser you are.... Pele is number 1 well the closet you could get to him if I turd like you was dropped on to a football pitch!!!!!!!!!
Alright, live your fantasy that Pelé is the undisputed greatest footballer of the world. But last time I checked, there was barely anyone who had actually seen Pele play, and instead people just automatically assume that he is so great, simply because people have them.
@0lilKayde0 You're weird, you go back to playing you FIFA 2010 and day dream that Maradona will pick you for that useless Argentina squad!!! You didn't watch play neither did I but Ive seen the videos and it speaks for itself!!! But you're thick and dimbwitted and wouldn't understand what a true player is!!!
@0lilKayde0 Well most people who don't like Pele love that cheating scum Maradona!!! So who do you admire then well see if it holds up against the legend that is Pele???????
A variety of persons; I do love the great Brasilian, Ronaldo (best player in my opinion). I think some of the finest players are: Lev Yashin, Dennis Bergkamp, Stanley Matthews, Garrincha, Zinedine Zidane...
And the list goes on and on. Plus, I don't HATE Pelé; I just think that he is overhyped, and also I hate the fact that FIFA accept his claim of 1000+ career goals.
@0lilKayde0 There are some great players in that list but Ronaldo was a real talent but no way was he the best, just need to look how the spell at Real Madrid, AC Milan and last world cup went to realise that.... where is Cruff, Van Basten, Platini???
-For the third time... (stupid Youtube comment system)-
I think it is fair to say Ronaldo is past it now, but even as an overweight 33 year old he still delivers the goals. It's a shame Dunga won't give Ronaldo the chance to redeem himself in the eyes of the world cup, as he prefers to field a team of children. I think at his prime (At Barça) he was most certainly the greatest.
I didn't add those players and more to the list as there are simply too many; I added a select few of my favourites.
@0lilKayde0 Ronaldo was a talent but injury prone and big headed at the best of times, but he was no way a greater player than Pele, Maradona, Cruyff etc. Though he was a deadly striker in this hey day no doubt.
@0lilKayde0 The Brasil story isn't over for Ronaldo yet. Brasil will propably fail in the world cup and Dunga will be kicked out. Ronaldo will play again, in frendly matches and propably in Copa America...
@0lilKayde0 Pele is not overhyped at all, he really did all that people said that he did. It's a pitty that it's not documented in movies. And it's a pitty that young people believe that actual players are betters than him.
1) People who like football unquestionably say "Pelé is the best" without even analysing this rash conclusion. You can't just take it as a given.
2) His claim of 1000+ goals is flawed; basically many of the goals scored by Pelé came in non-competitive club matches, for example, international tours Pelé completed with Santos and the New York Cosmos, and games Pelé played in for armed forces teams during his national service in Brazil...
3) He is not either the greatest ever goal scorer or the most technically gifted; those honours go to Josef Bican and Garrincha (respectively). Though I must admit he was a good combination of the two, combined with his consistency.
@callumkeohane That Maradona could easily have been the best... we all agree that.
@callumkeohane@callumkeohane Hey, why do you think that european championships are better than brazilian championship??? There are many brazilian world champions teams. Do you know the Santos history and Pele's contribution for the team results???
@0lilKayde0 Legends are legends, people just believe that all he did is true. But it's really true because there are many videos, statistics and witness. And the discussion is not about who is the best, it's about an unbeliaveable goal made by the king. I have 40 and never see anything like this.
@niteowl2345 I can't beat experience, since I'm just 22, but even with the complexity of the play itself, it isn't impossible... genius + timing + luck = history
that was incredible, and i saw video footage of his goal in the 58 final wer he did the same thing, an there is another seemingly impossible goal he scored which was against uruguay where he skined about 6 players on a farmers field of a pitch.
he changed the face of football and shaped how we play the game today.
pele is the god of football, no one will ever match him
i had an animation of one of my goals, the GK passed me the ball i dribbled past all 10 opposing players, beat the keeper stopped at the goal line, flicked the ball to my head, did a bicycle kick back towards my own keeper ran back and caught the ball with my head in mid-air,repeated this 5 times, then ran to half way line, kicked the ball up to me knee then did a half volley in mid air and blasted it to the right hand corner of the net. barcelona saw this animation and signed me for $890 million.
if you looked it up before calling people idiots, you'd read that because there was no camera at the game in 1959, pele asked for an animation to be created to preserve what he believed was the best goal he ever scored....several people have confirmed that the animation isn't exaggerated in any way.
well, this video is a digital reconstruction of the original goal, because the original video turned out so bright that you couldn"t see anything anymore. If that's an answer on your question. (All though I'm not sure, because I didn't really understood your question.)
@ashkul88 You're welcome, didn't want to be the know-it-all or something, just though the other people needed to know there were actual images of the game ;-)
Its actually a HISTORICAL RECONSTITUTION of what some consider to be Pelé´s greatest goal, using a game engine (but clearly motion captured), since the original footage (1960) was lost.
moving mutant i have never talked about Gengis Khan and Napoleon or Newton so he is a liar. Also he is from New Zealand where they are clueless about "soccer" so i take everything he says with a pinch of salt.
virtue08mofo is the typical ignorant who claim that Gengis Khan and Napoleon weren't so good general as well sir Isaac Newton wasn't a scientist since He didn't see by himself their feats nor theses hadn't Tv recorded
virtue; the guy who also don't know nothing about the basic Offside rule in Football [see /watch?v=pGQads0eTrg ]
at pele's time, there were too many brazil nationl players in santos club: Gilmar (58,62), Zito (58,62) , Mengálvio (62) , Coutinho (62) Pepe (58,62) Mauro (58, 62) Dorval Lima (66) Carlos Alberto (70) Joel Camargo (74) Clodoaldo (70) Edu (66,70,74) Da silva Toninho (66,70,72 state league top scorer) +1 menotti(argentina national team player)
haha ye, FOOL!!!! , he's the greatest ever fotballer- you think it isnt possible course its possible!! its PELE!! the ancient greek god of soccer hehehe
have ever seen the drible against uruguay goalkipper in 1970 world cup?imagine if there hadn't been a camera.would you believe what he did just by description?
although it was very clever the way he done it i would have believed because realy all he done was step over the ball, run around the keeper then miss.
It's NOT A VIDEO GAME!!! Pele said that this was his best goal ever. There was no footage of the goal so Pelé asked that a computer animation of this specific goal should be made. This DID happen!
For those who say that players from the past were not in as good condition as today's players...the players of the 40's, 50's, 60's & 70's are the coaches and trainers of today. For those of us who have played at professional level know that the physical training & stamina remain the same. The difference is the advances in nutrition and the obligation to maintain fitness to justify the salaries & year round play that didn't exist before. Don't let the black & white film fool you.
pele himself believed that this was his most beautiful goal and since there was no television footage of the match he requested that there be a computer simulation made
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
that goal is a little hard to believe... but then again it COULD be possible because in the 50s and 60s the "defenders" in soccer were PATHETIC... it wasn`t until the 70s when defenders actually did anything they could to stop the attacking players...
yeah right... keep dreaming... "way more competitive" you say...? in those days there were players that actually played drunk and still managed to do their thing... THAT`s how "competitive" football was in those days...
and aside from that in those days the players didn`t even where in HALF the physical condition that the players need to be in nowdays... so no need to tell that they didn`t even had HALF the speed the players started to have in the 80s...
Pele is becoming a bit of a joke with all his comments. Slandering messi and championing brazilian players and himself. @0lilKayde0 You're a fool what the hell do you know about football!! pele is seen as the greatest player ever you nob end!!!!!!!!!
WICKEDMAN85 1 year ago
I know that Pelé is no where near as good as he is made out to be. Also, I know a hell of a lot more about football than you, you smelly wang.
0lilKayde0 1 year ago
@0lilKayde0 HA HA, yeah just summed a dumb pratt that you are, smilly wang!! What are you KKK or a Neo-nazi bumhole!!!!!!!! What a loser you are.... Pele is number 1 well the closet you could get to him if I turd like you was dropped on to a football pitch!!!!!!!!!
WICKEDMAN85 1 year ago
Alright, live your fantasy that Pelé is the undisputed greatest footballer of the world. But last time I checked, there was barely anyone who had actually seen Pele play, and instead people just automatically assume that he is so great, simply because people have them.
Pelé was shite, Pelé was shite
He was worse than Jason Lee.
0lilKayde0 1 year ago
@0lilKayde0 You're weird, you go back to playing you FIFA 2010 and day dream that Maradona will pick you for that useless Argentina squad!!! You didn't watch play neither did I but Ive seen the videos and it speaks for itself!!! But you're thick and dimbwitted and wouldn't understand what a true player is!!!
WICKEDMAN85 1 year ago
Where did the Argentina comment come from? I think Argentina are shit.
0lilKayde0 1 year ago
@0lilKayde0 Well most people who don't like Pele love that cheating scum Maradona!!! So who do you admire then well see if it holds up against the legend that is Pele???????
WICKEDMAN85 1 year ago
A variety of persons; I do love the great Brasilian, Ronaldo (best player in my opinion). I think some of the finest players are: Lev Yashin, Dennis Bergkamp, Stanley Matthews, Garrincha, Zinedine Zidane...
And the list goes on and on. Plus, I don't HATE Pelé; I just think that he is overhyped, and also I hate the fact that FIFA accept his claim of 1000+ career goals.
0lilKayde0 1 year ago

0lilKayde0 1 year ago
@0lilKayde0 Ronaldo was a talent but injury prone and big headed at the best of times, but he was no way a greater player than Pele, Maradona, Cruyff etc. Though he was a deadly striker in this hey day no doubt.
WICKEDMAN85 1 year ago
Well, each to his own. =)
0lilKayde0 1 year ago
@0lilKayde0 The Brasil story isn't over for Ronaldo yet. Brasil will propably fail in the world cup and Dunga will be kicked out. Ronaldo will play again, in frendly matches and propably in Copa America...
JuanilloR9 1 year ago
Yes, but even so, Dunga (the prick) has denied the great man his record-tying 5th world cup and doomed Brasil to (probable) failure.
0lilKayde0 1 year ago
@0lilKayde0 Pele is not overhyped at all, he really did all that people said that he did. It's a pitty that it's not documented in movies. And it's a pitty that young people believe that actual players are betters than him.
niteowl2345 1 year ago
I say he is overhyped because:
1) People who like football unquestionably say "Pelé is the best" without even analysing this rash conclusion. You can't just take it as a given.
2) His claim of 1000+ goals is flawed; basically many of the goals scored by Pelé came in non-competitive club matches, for example, international tours Pelé completed with Santos and the New York Cosmos, and games Pelé played in for armed forces teams during his national service in Brazil...
(Continues)
0lilKayde0 1 year ago
(Continued)
3) He is not either the greatest ever goal scorer or the most technically gifted; those honours go to Josef Bican and Garrincha (respectively). Though I must admit he was a good combination of the two, combined with his consistency.
0lilKayde0 1 year ago
@WICKEDMAN85
just 2 things, Argentina squad in 1986 world cup wasn't anywhere near as good as any of the brazil teams Pele won the word cup with.
Maradona went to Napoli and single handedly brought success to them. Pele played in Brazil and USA, thats it never in europe.

DAMJR10 1 year ago
@callumkeohane That Maradona could easily have been the best... we all agree that. "Almosts" are excuses.
thesickleone 1 year ago 3
@thesickleone maradona was the best anyway
callumkeohane 1 year ago
@callumkeohane @callumkeohane Hey, why do you think that european championships are better than brazilian championship??? There are many brazilian world champions teams. Do you know the Santos history and Pele's contribution for the team results???
niteowl2345 1 year ago
@niteowl2345 they are better thats why champions league is the best, maradona was more talented and a better player end of
callumkeohane 1 year ago
@0lilKayde0 Legends are legends, people just believe that all he did is true. But it's really true because there are many videos, statistics and witness. And the discussion is not about who is the best, it's about an unbeliaveable goal made by the king. I have 40 and never see anything like this.
niteowl2345 1 year ago
@niteowl2345 I can't beat experience, since I'm just 22, but even with the complexity of the play itself, it isn't impossible... genius + timing + luck = history

that was incredible, and i saw video footage of his goal in the 58 final wer he did the same thing, an there is another seemingly impossible goal he scored which was against uruguay where he skined about 6 players on a farmers field of a pitch.
he changed the face of football and shaped how we play the game today.
pele is the god of football, no one will ever match him

i had an animation of one of my goals, the GK passed me the ball i dribbled past all 10 opposing players, beat the keeper stopped at the goal line, flicked the ball to my head, did a bicycle kick back towards my own keeper ran back and caught the ball with my head in mid-air,repeated this 5 times, then ran to half way line, kicked the ball up to me knee then did a half volley in mid air and blasted it to the right hand corner of the net. barcelona saw this animation and signed me for $890 million.

if you looked it up before calling people idiots, you'd read that because there was no camera at the game in 1959, pele asked for an animation to be created to preserve what he believed was the best goal he ever scored....several people have confirmed that the animation isn't exaggerated in any way.

is it just me or have i really seen the video of a similar goal by pele on TV?
amitpalrulzz 1 year ago
well, this video is a digital reconstruction of the original goal, because the original video turned out so bright that you couldn"t see anything anymore. If that's an answer on your question. (All though I'm not sure, because I didn't really understood your question.)

duh! OH RLY???
Its actually a HISTORICAL RECONSTITUTION of what some consider to be Pelé´s greatest goal, using a game engine (but clearly motion captured), since the original footage (1960) was lost.

Why do the asshole camera`s always seem to miss the best stuff ?
Of course the actual goal would look similar to this but there is nothing like real footage.
I thought Pele was the best even before I knew he scored this goal so Im not likely to change my mind now.

Don't let the black & white film fool you.

that goal is a little hard to believe... but then again it COULD be possible because in the 50s and 60s the "defenders" in soccer were PATHETIC... it wasn`t until the 70s when defenders actually did anything they could to stop the attacking players...
CactusG26 3 years ago
god shut up were you alive to tell that???
old times football was way more competitive
tavinhoo93 3 years ago
yeah right... keep dreaming...
CactusG26 3 years ago
haha omg nowadays players like kaka win 1+mi euros a fucking month that time they didnt have 1/100 of it.
they used to play for the love of the game
nowadays some people still do , but money is the main reason
