I just ate at Hopp Kee's a couple of days ago, My wife and son and I went in and we weren't that hungry so i said we'll eat chicken fried rice and 2 egg rolls, and the waiter said we needed to order more?
I'm like what so I decided to get what I saw on here the crabs cantonese, It was just ok the sauce over powers the taste of any crab so all you taste is the sauce and green onions. The waiter was pretty rude real short answers and he looked pissed.
I made the mistake of trying to pay with my credit card and that really sent him over, Telling me CASH ONLY and walking away. Definetely not the best we get better chinese here in New Philadelphia at a place called Lahms the egg rolls are the best I have ever eaten.
It's not just Chinese restaraunts that have "phantom" menus, go to a real mexican restaraunt (no, not el nacho taco bell grande) and you'll be surprized what the mexican and latino families order. The american taste for ethnic food only goes so far outside of cities with large minority populations. Places like Panda Express, Chevy's, and Olive Garden were designed to cater to the american palate. No way are they even close to the real deal.
Why is that amazing? He's American. Why would you have a Chinese accent if you grew up in America? Do you expect Black people to have African accents if they grew up here? If you grew up in Russia, do you think you'd still sound American? How uneducated can you be not to comprehend such a basic concept?
I don't think its discrimination to ask a non-asian if they want a fork or withhold the "other" menu. I bet they've had their fair share of pricks DEMANDING forks after struggling with chopsticks and probably also people that have reacted adversely to some items on the "other" menu. You can't really blame them, chinese restaurants are all about fast service. Never in a large city have I had to wait more than 5 - 10 mins for food.
DuchessJulia..i feel you but just remember that as human being creatures we are all just animals of programing. food is love. and yeah. i was a waiter too
i always hated that in some asian restaurants, you are treated differently because of not being of asian race.
When I was a waitress, I never approached asian people asking them if they needed chopsticks, so why 75% of the time I go to an asian restaurant, they ask me if I need a fork?
from my pov, they try to take some possible inconvenience away from having to ask for a fork. i think it's just called service. you shouldn't be offended. if you don't need a fork, say no thanks. they're there to serve as efficiently as possible. asking on one trip if you need a fork makes their job easier. plus, to them it's polite to be sensitive to your possible needs. the typical non-chopstick using person might feel intimidated. you don't have to act all indignant to show off that you can.
I'd make the trip to NYC just for that plate of schweinshaxe. One of my favorites.
