Well that looked like some pretty snazzy movie theater there! With big medievel candlebras on either side of the door and a nicely groomed & dressed usher standing out front! Not quite like the cheap and cheesy ( by comparison ) neighborhood movie theaters that I went to as a kid! So, were these rich kids in this comercial or something ?
I saw this on YouTube and I LOVE this movie. it's one of my favorite children's movies of all time. Alvin and the Chipmunks 2, the first two Rugrats movie, then Raggedy Ann and Andy. I saw this trailer first and I thought it wold be okay, but I was really surprised how much I LOVED it and how much Didi Conn did a kick ass job as Raggedy Ann.
Whenever I see an ad for a movie showing "real footage" of "customers" "outside" "movie theaters," my desire to see whatever they're advertising takes a severe dip.
at least the phony sincerity they give is limited. it's better than the over-enthusiastic fake smiles and out-of-place sing-song talking of most infomercials.
"the music got to me in a very certain way" as he looks at the camera like his priest just touched him inappropriately.
"yeah! it was great!!" while not even looking at the camera.
you could at least tell they didn't sell their souls for this movie, unlike the poor bastards in the snuggie commercials. nothing can save them now ...
The movie itself was incredibly trippy and had a lot wrong with it, but despite all that, this one of my favorite childhood memories, and I continue to enjoy watching it to this day. =)
There's a good handful of songs that the movie could've done without, but the rest I still find myself singing to myself from time to time. =)

Ugh! I hated this movie. It was supposed to be a "return to the Golden Age of Animation" and/or "give a Disney a run for his money" - it was neither of the those. Richard Williams is a wonderful animator but a horrible production manager. What resulted was a trainwreck. What was more unbelievable was that later, Joe Raposo and company renegged on their original intention of NOT doing it as a play. What resulted was a Broadway musical which was an even bigger TRAINWRECK.
Before you comment further on Richard Williams, it actually wasn't his fault there were a number of flaws to the movie itself. Blame the producers who forced him to not cut a single musical number out of the film, or the inconsistences in the narrative. He never even had any real faith in the project in the first place; he was forced to do it. What he can be blamed for, however, is how over-budgeted the film eventually became, which forced the producers to drop him from the project.
@PolyBrow Richard Williams wasnt interested in any movies he done. he only made A christmas carol, the Pink Panther, Who Framed Roger Rabbit and a bunch of commercials just to get funding for The Thief and the Cobbler. which had a sad ending.
As soon as the camera turns off- "OK mister, I said what you told me to. Now where's my ten bucks?"
Seriously, the film in question was one of the better animated versions of Raggedy Ann and Andy. I particularly enjoyed Andy's "No Girl's Toy" song. But nothing, in my opinion, can beat the original books.
I also wanted to say that kid who said intelligently that the music got to him in a certain way, I love the music too and it gets to me in a certain and great way. Thank you for posting this.
Well even if the stupid so called "real" critics didn't like it, it's a movie primarly made for kids at the time and the kids, he real critics loved it which really matters in my opioun!!Even though the movie was made for kids, it has some adult aspect to it as you watch and obvere it. I loved this movie when I saw it on video as a kid and I love it even more now!!!!
Richard Williams, who directed/animated this film, also did the animation for the original animated characters in Robert Zemekis' "Who Framed Roger Rabbit". ; )

This is asking for a remake. I can feel it. I secretly have a copy of it that I found on eBay. Total childhood memories! Love this TV spot.

How come trailers back in the day seemed so forced? I mean... more so than most today.

At least these "critics" liked this movie better than the real critics.

Well, I think Siskel and Ebert at least gave it thumbs up. They mentioned liking it in their review of Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
