Why can i not go on a UFC video without seeing two people in a pointless argument that will prove nothing?, if someone writes a comment you don't agree with, just ignore it, fighting via YouTube proves nothing but the fact that you don't have the intelligence to be the better man and just leave them to there stupidity.
LOL @ all the MMA meatheads. The MMA guy won, the MMA guy won, Well he was SUPPOSED to wasn't he? Who actually expected anything less? Do any of you MMA fanboys think that if these two fought 12 rounds in a boxing match that Toney wouldn't wipe his ass with Couture? Exactly!! Congats to Randy for doing what he was SUPPOSED to do.
@roetimbo i think the main point that people are making is that mma is vs. a boxer in a street fight, the mma guy would win 9/10 times simply because it is a more realistic form of fighting.
wow, Ray mercer knocks out tim sylvia. who hasn't knocked out tim sylvia? Abe wagner, the FIRST fighter to lose on TUF 10, knocked out sylvia in 30 seconds. Randy is 47 and definitely not a top 5 HW or LHW, yet he absolutely dominates boxing HW belt holder. that's why people care about his win and NOT mercer's (but I do like ray, I hope he keeps working mma cause he has some huge power in that right hand)
@KOforLiddell In 2009... Tim sylvia had NEVER been knocked out!
Also ALL the boxing HW belts are held by the Klitschko brothers, Toney holds none!... and Toney hasent been significant in boxing since 2003!!!! Also Toney was fighter of the year in 1991!!!!!!!!!!! 20 years ago!
Also... Randy has fought at 205 and Heavyweight... Toney is a natural 154-168 pounder... started his career at 154... 160... 168... 175... 200... and heavyweight... was very fat at 175!
James Toney talked up and just about sold this fight almost by himself. He knew he wasn't going to win. The guy probably laughed all the way to the bank.
@apenton71 except he did not go to the bank if anything the fight cost him money due to training etc,his money went straight to the tax man he found that out on fight day i lol'd
Haha screw boxing fans I can respect the sport but Boxing fans are always cocky lil bastards saying its the better sport an yadda yadda they just fear of the fact that UFC is the fastest growing sport an they do not want to look like hypocrites cause they probably realize in 10 years it will be the sport they will watch
mrKANYEwes, boxers can go 15 rounds because they can dance around, clinch and avoid actually fighing their hand picked, washed up opponents! Numbers don't lie. Boxing is a poorly run, dead sport that fans are tired of getting ripped off from and don't want to watch anymore. And if anyone picks a fight with you it's not because they're a UFC fan, it's because you're an ignorant, irratating, uneducated moron about the sport.
LOL James Toney was just in it for the pay day. big fat. delusional. won a fringe title from an org that doesnt have any champions in 90% of their divisions.
@mrKANYEwes seriously it just shows how dumb some mma fans can be. when ray beat tim, they made excuse left and right about how tim was paid to stand with Ray, how tim sucks so bad, tim was washed up, overrated, etc the list goes on. However when couture beat Toney its as if Jesus walked the earth again and boxing all of a sudden sucks. U wanna a definition of a truly shot fighter Toney is no better example, just listen to his speech for proof.
@TheDannyboy55 No, Tim wasn't paid to stand with Ray. Tim and Ray made an agreement to stand and trade. Yes, Tim DOES suck very badly. His championship reign in the UFC was during a weak period. His size was what won him fights against a division that had fighters like Wesley Cabbage filling it. Nobody said boxing sucks because Randy beat Toney. It's only reasserting a point that we learned all the way back in UFC 1.
@mrKANYEwes tim sylvia was terrible lol he was a champion when the heavy weight division was incredibly terrible and when he fought mercer he was way out of his prime and his prime sucked.
@mrKANYEwes Not to mention everyone knows that fight was fixed because ray mercer and tim sylvia agreed to stand up and fight a striking match since the fight was originally a boxing match turned into a mma match.
Now there's been boxers that take the challenge and step into an mma ring but you dont see mma fighters stepping into a boxers ring. People are right James Toney is a cocky Mother f-er but you have to respect the fact he still step in with a champion mma fighter not a kimbo slice. Look at Ray Mercer vs Tim Sylvia. Ray Mercer Knock Tim Sylvia out cold does that mean Boxing better No it means Tim Sylvia was Dumb and cocky for not fighting his fight. Chance favors the prepared!
Now there's been boxers that take the challenge and step into an mma ring but you dont see mma fighters stepping into a boxers ring. I'm not taking anything away from Couture, don't get me wrong UFC fluff boys. I love MMA but my point is that you UFC guys are not true MMA fans, if you were you would agree that this was no more that a freak show. If you took any PRIMED boxer and gave him 9 months of mma training he would easily climb the ranks. MMA fighters dont like getting punched, that is why they do MMA, however the best MMA fighters in the world all have strong boxing backgrounds. Dana offer Kermit Cintron a UFC contract.
@SQUINN14 Prime boxer or not, the same result would've happened. Since when do UFC fighters not like getting hit? I'll admit some fighters don't like being hit, but that's not for all of them. 9 months isn't enough to climb ranks whether you're in your prime or not. You claim to love MMA but you only show how little you know and understand if you think a boxer can climb into MMA and in less than a year of training, dominate.
@kungfuspic Who gives a shit about his opinion? You have thousands who say one thing, but when ONE guy goes the opposite direction it's an authority?
Sure, maybe because it suits your arguement, and maybe because you have nothing to add to the arguement, and must rely on someone else to carry your weak points.
@SnareBuff I thought maybe you hearing it from a former UFC champion you understand. Boxing is a gentlemen sport but i guess you wouldn't understand that. It's cool you think what you want.
@kungfuspic A former UFC champion eh? Yeah.. In 1999.... Oh yeah. That's a REAL strong era in the UFC right there... You got me dude...
Yes, it's true that training yourself to constantly take punches is hard. Yes, MMA has some weak strikers, and should be further ahead than they are now.
Gentleman's sport? I love how boxing fans always resort to that BS.
You guys make it sound like grappling and MMA are for barbarians..
@SnareBuff We can go back in forth lol. It's is a gentlemen sport it has rules more then MMA. Your limited to what you can do. I like MMA back in the days just 2 rules no biting and no eye poking. I like both but i rather see a nice clean knock out then a tip out. Right now I train in wing chun but I use to do mma and boxing I fought in the New York Golden Gloves. Cause both these sports have no longevity in the long run you will retire with aches and pains, like me.
you also forgot to bring up the differance in ufc fans from back in the days. back in the days ufc fans werent douchebags like snarebuff. or fags that compare everything they see on ufc to street fighting. thats y i dont like it as much these days. ohnestly, where can i go watch a ufc fight these days without having sum fan trying to pick a fight with every1 he sees? and you are right, ufc was more intense back then, like boxing when fighters use to go for 15 strong rounds all out
reaching low on this one? like i said, its youtube
like i said, i know you cant accept the the fact that im saying is true because ou hate. ever since ufc came out and started this whole ufc vs boxing you kids mistaken it with mma vs boxing. whats next? wrestling vs ufc? which will than lead to wrestling vs mma. u just been watching to much ufc. as a matter in fact, thats y i dont like watching it that much, becuase of to many hard headed douchebags like you.
@SnareBuff aye, anyone saying MMA isn't a "gentlemen's sport" compared to boxing should just watch any Sakuraba fight, specially vs White and Netwon. Amazing respect and of course the top two technical grappling matches ever.
@SQUINN14 How do you have the nerve to say that a boxer who trains less than a year in the world of MMA would be a success? Do you think that somehow in 9 months they're gonna learn enough to defend themselves against fighters who train to take down professionals? What makes you think a rookie would be any difficulty? Great boxer or not, boxing only works in boxing. You can adapt boxing into MMA, but it takes way longer than 9 months.
@SnareBuff Now there's been boxers that take the challenge and step into an mma ring but you dont see mma fighters stepping into a boxers ring.
@kungfuspic Actually MMA fighters stepping into boxing wouldn't be much of a statement. Why fight in a sport where almost all of your fighting arsenal is limited? All that training becomes irrelevant whenever it's not allowed to be used. It'd be like getting a biomedical engineering degree and getting a job as a P.E. teacher.
@SnareBuff Thats just it most the mma guys are trying to master a bunch of things and are not go at any of them. There the jack of all trades master of none. With the exception on a few mma champions but if you look at them they have strong back rounds in what they do like jujutsu or striking. Plus most the time it's not what you gonna prove it's how much you gonna make. And boxing by far makes A whole lot more in ppv's and so do the fighters. What mma fighter makes more then 20million a fight?
@kungfuspic Jack of all trades and master of none... Do you have any idea how much time and training, not to mention the difficulty, it takes to master multiple arts? Do you realize how many striking and grappling arts there are? You also bring up the boxing payouts, which is a weak point to argue with. Do you understand how long boxing's been around professionally and how much LONGER it's been in the pro business than MMA?
Do you think people in the NBA got paid much when it started pro?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
MMA IS THE SAME THING AS STREET FIGHTING BUNCH OF GUYS WHO DRINK BEER ......N WANT TO LAY ON TOP OF EACH OTHER FOR THE WHOLE FIGHT...BORINGGGG..BOXING IS WAY BETETR.
@SwagChamp2012 BOXING IS FOR IDIOTS LIKE YOU WHO TALK IN ALL CAPS AND FIND MMA TOO COMPLICATED FOR YOUR SIMPLE FUCKING BRAIN WHO JUST WANTS TO SEE TWO GUYS HIT EACH OTHER IN THE FACE WITH PILLOWS AROUND THEIR HANDS UNTIL THEY GET SO TIRED THEY CUDDLE MORE THAN THEY FIGHT AND THE REF MUST PULL THEM APART OVER AND OVER LIKE THE DEAN PULLING APART TWO ACNE-FACED KIDS DANCING AT THE PROM
NO WONDER YOU THINK BOXING IS "WAY BETETR" YOU MORON
hey....... untill pple start paying a fighter 60 million just to see them fight then u can say it is better..
u guys always talking about how boxing fans always bring the money up, but its only to show u boxing haters that pple are still willing to pay more in a boxing match than a ufc match.
u probally think that boxing is all about throwing punches i bet.
pull up the Juan Manuel Marquez fights and the best ufc matches and tell me wich 1 is nonstop action
@mrKANYEwes Actually that's not true. Boxing is comprised of federations, not companies. The money split will be much different when there's not as many people to pay. Also, how much longer has boxing been established professionally as opposed to MMA? How much do you think professional basketball players made when it was established? You tell half-truths and try to sell it as credible. You don't have the slightest clue what you're talking about.
@mrKANYEwes And why bother comparing boxing matches to UFC matches in terms of non-stop action? If you constitute non-stop action by a slugfest, then mixed martial arts isn't for you, but don't you DARE dumb down a sport because you can't appreciate the things going on. There's more difficulty to passing guard and getting a dominant position and MAINTAINING that dominant position that you moronic boxing nuthuggers realize.
Show some apprecation, or just don't watch it. Simple as that.
@SnareBuff boxing gloves do hurt more. F=MxA u know its true about the money too. and thats y ur pissed. u dont know what ur talking about put roy jones jr fights next to the best ufc fights no comparison. boxing is still on top. i just cant stand kids like u who talk shit about it. i never had anything against ufc till i met the douche bag fans. like i said, the only people that made james toney sound bad ass was "ufc".
@mrKANYEwes No. They don't. I suppose you mean to tell me the giant boxing gloves that fit up your entire arm hurt worse than both of them right? You're a quack. Like I said, how long do you think a boxing match would last with MMA gloves on?
They might be on top in terms of payouts, but that doesn't make them any better or worse. Nobody said anything about them in terms of sport. It's about the fighting style that is better, and obviously MMA is the superior of the two.
@mrKANYEwes As sports they're equal because it all comes down to preference. The difference is the people that talk down on MMA because they view grappling as boring and call it lame names like humping. The ones that don't understand the effectiveness of a well placed leg kick, or the difficulty to pass guard.
Since when was I talking shit about boxing? I don't ever recall saying a single negative thing about them. You're putting words in my mouth boy.
you asking, "since when was i talking shit about boxng?"
but yet u call me a "boxing nuthugger"?yea, good luck trying to talk your self out of this one twoface.
and u say mma is more supperior than boxing? lol boxing is a mixed martial art first of all, and seriously..... boxing is right up there to soccer in popularity around the world know it all.
and why dont they use mma gloves for boxing? wow..... mabe because boxers can throw 100 punches per round. "hand protection"
@mrKANYEwes Calling you a nuthugger means I'm talking shit about boxing? Wow, looks like your comprehension skills are top notch. Boxing is not a mixed martial art you idiot. Boxers don't grapple. Grabbing your opponent and holding him until the ref breaks you up is NOT grappling. Jiu jitsu is grappling, wrestling is grappling. Judo is grappling.
Yes, MMA is superior to boxing. You mean to tell me that boxing is a better fighting style than MMA?
@mrKANYEwes You need to seriously learn how to read. I'm talking about them as a fighting style, and you're talking about them as a sport. You're an idiot of the highest caliber. Wanna talk about the popularity of MMA and where it is in the world?
Lemme ask you something. Do you see people wearing MMA branded shirts or boxing shirts? How many people are there that wear TapouT and Affliction clothing?
@mrKANYEwes How is boxing a mixed martial art? Boxing is punching, pure and simple. Boxing isn't grappling. Boxing isn't kicking. Boxing isn't elbowing. Boxing isn't clinch fighting. Boxing is PUNCHING.
MMA gloves weren't meant for grappling you moron. Gloves were a condition state athletic commissions given to the UFC in order for them to be sanctioned as a sport. Why don't you get a clue what you're talking about before you try your weakshit arguement.
@mrKANYEwes Well no shit it's movement as well, but the method of attack in boxing is punching, end of story. You may have to master the footwork and movements to throw punches, but think about this, in mixed martial arts, you have more to learn. There's techniques top to bottom that range in WAY more areas and MUCH more difficulty than boxing could ever grasp.
I don't know about boxing, and I hate it? You REALLY are reaching low on this one pal, but that's ok.
youve nevr even tried to master it so you dont know anything. heres another example, wrestling and judo. they both involve grappling right? but they have their own moves and own stance, grappling, one aspect, stance and movement, another aspect. and as much as i love to watch judo, i really dont know if its all grappling, because some of the moves they teach you which you dont really see in a judo competion that much can only be used when sumbody throws a punch at you
Boxing is a great sport. I love boxing. Too bad the promoters ruined the sport. The best thing MMA has over boxing is the model. In MMA the best are more often than not going against the best. In boxing a promoter signs a fighter and then handpicks as many opponents that his fighter can win against so he can run up a record.
Boxing has forever lost the title going to any boxers and will now always go to MMA fighters, "Badest man inthe world." Will only be used for MMA.
I thought Toney was going to knock him out but I was wrong everyone check out my channel only need 4 subscribers til 100 subscriptions and be my friend
Disgrace of a fight. Toney proved nothing, if anything he proved that boxers are way to cocky for MMA even as their sport is dying. With 8 months of practice, what looked like terrible physical fitness, and a big mouth, he expected to win a fight. What does that say about what Toney thinks about MMA? In the end Couture proved what all of us already knew, boxers don't have a chance in MMA if they don't pick up some average wrestling or jiu-jitsu skills.
@DQuizlix this fight proves nothing.they both are in their 40's!!!toney usually fights at 175-185 and he hasnt been a contender since 2003. besides on adrenalin a boxer killed a mma fighter but that also proves nothing cuze they were both rookies. that fight was like watching my grandparents fight... disgraceful
@DQuizlix Boxing is not dying I keep hearing that but only from guys that like mma. It's what you like and I like both. But ask me if i rather watch A good boxing match over a good mma match I'll go with the Boxing match. Boxing is the gentlemen sport. It's harder then mma cause in mma you have more tools to work with, boxing you only have your hands. I do believe mma training is harder then boxing. I kinda knew what was gonna happen Randy fought smart and didn't take no chances.
What a nonsense comment James Toney doesn't even take boxing seriously he's just about money. He's not been in shape for 15yrs. He didn't expect to win you mug he just wanted a fat pay cheque and built the fight up and only an idiot would believe the hype. He can't get a decent fight in boxing because its embaressing for any decent figher to be in the same ring as him. The UFC hyped him up for money, The UFC was a disgrace for even holding the fight.
If your going to try and prove anything you put the best fighter on with immence speed like Pacman, Calr Froch, Amir Khan. This si never going to happen as they earn in one fight what an mma fighter earns in their whole carreer
@hustleboy62 well your be waiting a long time then, they picked mma as its a better fighting sport and suits their background.no one in mma is claiming they would knock out everone in boxing but james toney did with mma he even said he could knock randy out from his back
@hustleboy62 why would he? gloves are for pussys in this day and age, no leg kicks? why? because boxers are scared of leg kicks? stepping into a ring where all you can do is throw punches and weave and shit is not testing your whole body to the max. Tony got beat in a fight where skill is more important than punching power and speed, couture is the weaker boxer, he won by utilizing skill in a more realistic way than saying "lets fight but we can only use our hands"
@TheLydianRocks why would he? the answer is simple. boxers make 100x what an MMA fighter earns. money talks. i find it hard to believe you are saying that boxing is for pussys. it is the most physical sport in the world (and yes, mma is a sport, not real fighting.) answer me this, how often do you see an MMA fighter taking over 500 blows to the head per fight?
@hustleboy62 Just saying: why would anyone want to take 500 blows to the head? MMA atleast gives you options..... look at muhammed ali, freddy roach, james toney and any number of fighters that have clearly been given lifelong brain damage from boxing. Personally I think its barbaric that boxing makes people get hit in the head and when they shouldnt really go on get up and get hit again. That fact that in mma someone gets knocked and finished then get to go home just means its more humane!
@hustleboy62 boxers make more? wrong manny paq and dloyd who r very overhyped r making the most cuz they keep the money alive and are greedy and this is coming from a fan of both sports. most physical sport is pure muay thai or pradal serey
@sbc2k1 -__- in pro boxing bouts ppl use 6 oz gloves max(as far as i kno)... 6 oz gloves combined with ridiculous punching techniques and strength is more than enough to "compete" with 32 4oz gloved fights.
Btw im not trying to say NUMBA1PROSPECT is right -- its just using tat statement to justify the "wearing" of fighters is just stupid. But yeah -- i am a huge fan of mma and Couture -- just wanted to point out the stupidity of that statement.... tat is all
80+ fights vs 32 fights hmmm In ring mileage Randy is no where near as worn out as Toney. Shit just listen to the difference in the way each guy speaks for Christ's sake. Anyways
This was hardly a good show for MMA. It accomplished nothing accept extra ppv sales. When an MMA guy beats a top caliber boxer in his physical prime or at least in good physical shape then we'll give them respect.
Don't be absurd. Randy is what, 47? Jezuz. He was/is a legend and Toney was/is a legend- yet Toney couldn't even get a shot off!
You are an absolute retard if you think any boxer in his prime could compete in the MMA without spending some serious time in the form of months or years learning BJJ/Wrestling etc.
As for the way Toney speaks- I imagine he was an idiot BEFORE being head-smashed hundreds of times, but boxing will do that. MMA isn't nearly as rough on the brain.
@NUMBA1PROSPECT I don't see a lot of top caliber boxers in their prime lining up for MMA fights - why would they? Boxing is more popular and pays better.
But, seriously, you don't really think that top boxers would consistently win in MMA without learning other aspects of fighting, do you? That is like saying that top tennis players would become champion racquetball players without first learning how to play racquetball.
@NUMBA1PROSPECT and you give a shit how worn out james toney is? sure you do AFTER he lost the fight lol this fight accomplished extra ppv sales indeed and just think: james 'taps out' toney started the whole thing.
@NUMBA1PROSPECT I can see your point but no prime boxer would take the pay cut to fight in the UFC. I mean hell guys like pacman, FMW, Marquez, Chambers, and even B level fighters get more in one purse than a UFC fighter fighting 3 times a year.
You forgot the part where boxers hand pick fights their entire career. Fighting bums the first 30 fights before even giving themselves a little challenge. We see this now with pacman and FMJ. Both ducking each other to protect their record and paydays. You dont get easy fights in MMA unless you get a pure boxer lol. Also your forgot to count the 30 years of wrestling Randy did including alternate on 3 Olympics. Add to that his boxing he did in the military.
1 last thing. Toney was doomed from the start. Not because his shape or age. But because his boxing style is to stand their with cement shoes and not move. The takedown randy used would not have got anyone in MMA. MMA guys move. They dont stand in front of you and bob and weave. He was a sitting duck. The UFC give Toney the best opponent he could ask for. They should have put Anderson Silva in their and beat him on the feet to add insult to injury. Kickboxers eat boxers too.
@dperry203 I agree. Even if Toney was young he wouldnt have the footwork necessary to avoid a charging MMA grappler. He's a plodding counterpuncher who's been much easier to hit in recent years. All boxers dont have that same style. A speedy boxer with good footwork would do a lot better in MMA than the old stationary overweight ones..
@trollurMom304 Judging from your comment you obviously didn't buy it or watch any of the fights. Please tell me you aren't considering Randy vs Tony a "big fight".
@Onepiecefan3 well it was more of an interesting fight but still these big name mma fighters only care about a W and not how they get it. They're totally fine rolling on the ground for three rounds, but hey if you like watching sweaty guys roll around thats your thing. I want none of it.
@trollurMom304 Point proven, you didn't watch the fight at all.. It was an instant take down leading to ground and pound then a arm triangle choke all in the first round. If you consider that two sweaty guys rolling on the ground for a while than you don't know what real fighting is. It wasn't a gridded out victory by decision, it was an assault of punches leading to a submission, Don't talk shit like you actually bought the fight ok? Most of the bouts that night stayed standing.
@Onepiecefan3 hey man you can just buy gay porn if you want it will probably save you a good bit of money. Instead of just hiding in the closest and hoping 2 guys will take the fight to the ground.
You cone across as an idiot. NHB.MMA was create as a realistic version of a street fight. Thast its roots. It dont matter how you get the W. Thats the appeal. If Mike Tyson raped your mom i doubt you would stand and bang with him because its what entertains the simpletons. You would do what it took to win. MMA is intellectual combat. Not two morons trading punches with no thought process. Body types dictate fighting style. Not everyone is put on earth to be a boxer.
you guys are dumb its not about race just who has better training and natural talent some people are just born with that skill dont talk unless your a fighter not amateur a pro someone whos up there you watch and talk shit thats all you haters do...haters any of those fighters could you guys whenever any time anywhere..pnce again..FUCKING HATERS
MMA is just a bunch of already existent styles used at the same time. For all the people actually interested in a clash between Boxing and MMA, we have to wait until MMA grows a little more and pays it's fighters more, so that it's worth it for Boxers in their primes to step in.
Regardless though, Boxing has to evolve in the gym to approach fighting wrestlers int he right way. The kicking and dirty Boxing won't be a MAJOR problem. It's why Couture didn't elect to do them.
@IauthenticI people will one day figure out that kicks are way stronger than punches when you fight, people are not training there feet right, in mma and are very unbalanced and uncoordinated a man legs are about 3 times stronger than his arms why don't more people have in the ufc have unblock-able kicks like cro cop and cro crop is slow, imagine if he was fast like mike tyson was with his punches, when the sport evolves even cung lee will be seen as a light kicker
a kick will never have anything resembling the speed and versatility that punches do, especially with bigger guys. Kicking sports have been around for many years now, long before the UFC
Haha He is not the the heavyweight champion. The two Klitchkos are the heavyweight champions. Toney isn't even a top 10 heavyweight and has never been a real heavyweight champion. Obviously you dont know to much about boxing which means you very little about MMA, Toney is the the equivalent of the BODOG champion.
@abdedgfh stop trying to bite people with ur VAG. You are delusional if you think you can beat any top level mma fighter with BITING. Whats to stop them from biting you back as they break your arm? they can eye gouge you as they triangle choke you as well. In a street fight where anything goes you would get slapped in the face with a cock cos ur a bitch ahahaha
dana white got punked and hid behind coutoure. I mean do disrepect to MMA as a sport, but even the MMA fighters at our boxing gym thought this was a horrible matchup.
James Toney isn't even a relevant boxer to anyone who knows anything about boxing.
NEWS FLASH.....He isn't a champion anymore than Ray Mercer was when he fought MMA. In his last 5 boxing matches he has 2 wins by split decision, 2 losses and 1 no contest. He is an old, fat, NONATHLETIC, former middleweight boxing champion. He holds a garbage ass title that he recently defended against a 12-5 fighter. This is like Ken Shamrock getting into the boxing ring with a Klitscho brother. MMA proved nothin
@SQUINN14 james toney is the current iba heavyweight boxing champion, toney got his ass beat by couture it proved randy couture is a better overall fighter than james toney
@SQUINN14 Your analogy is flawed because neither Klitchko is 47 years old. Randy Couture is 47. Toney turned 42 last week. So this is nothing like a 46 year old, over the hill Shamrock, fighting a 34 year old Klitchko.
Boxers dont stand much of a chance in an MMA circle. However, Anderson Silva challenged Roy Jones JR. to a boxing match over 2 years ago, and Roy Jones Jr. hasn't accepted his challenge. In March of 2008, Silva announced he would fight Jones under Boxings rules. No word from Roy!
@SQUINN14 and randy couture is 47 years old...been putting his body through hell for almost 40 years now. he deserves credit for being able to get out of bed every day let alone fighting some of the best mma fighters in the world. any mma or boxing fan that had said prior to this fight that it was going to prove something was an idiot to begin with. toney isn't anything special and couture is an old fart who for some reason is still in fighting shape and able to beat guys up.
@SQUINN14 you fell for that hype? Boxing and MMA are two different sports, I dont care if it's Mayweather or Pac-man....if they get into an MMA fight with any mid level fighter in the UFC it will end the same, just as an Anderson Silva and Machida were to step in a boxing ring with any journyman boxer, they would get picked apart.
@SQUINN14 What you're saying may be partially true, but Toney is one of the all time great boxers. Certainly better than Ray Mercer. And I wouldn't call him nonathletic - come on dude... maybe out of shape, but not nonathletic. Even with the belly, he could easily outbox anyone in the UFC. I agree with most of what you're saying, but Toney is not the complete chump you make him out to be.
@braducsb2 Well they all spoke of Toneys kick ass boxing skills like his jabs and rolling his shoulders etc...but MMA has more complicatied skill level, MMA requires a good functioning brain to create strategies..i agree with some of the people here boxing is a lost art form its outdated MMA is the latest in fighting sports technology...also the boxing business is dirty and corrupt MMA has a constant stream of matches on a weekly monthy basis unlike boxing..
@doosriradha I'm sure there's some corruption in MMA as well - boxing's just had a lot more time to develop into it's current stage of corruption. After all, boxing is 100+ years old. And for that matter, I think boxing was a lot more corrupt in the 70's and 80's with Don King and what not.
The UFC is paying their flagship fighters chump change compared to Mayweather and Pac Man - I'm sure Dana and the Fertita bros. are pocketing the difference.
i blame Dana White for this foolish matched-up but i respect Toney for stepping into the octagon for the first time and go against a hall of famer. Again it was foolish.
nigger beatdown in beantown go whitey . they had to use subtitles just so people could realize wtf that bonehead was saying . no boxer would stand a chance in mma . they have cornered the market in talkin trash .
i don't live in a delusion i live in real life, an arm-bar will get your brains splattered on the cement you try that in real life, bounce you knees off that pavement and try to take me down, get jumped by 18 crips and see how far wrestling gets you, couture would get destroyed in a life or dead situation, but tony could possibly knockout a lest 5 attackers and the other five would flee.
mma is not real fighting its mma just like boxing is not real fighting its boxing
@abdedgfh He would get jumped by 18 crips? So your saying he would kick the shit out of you but, he wouldn't kick the shit out of 19 people? Show me one fighting style that will allow you to kick 19 people ass and, I will be impressed.
@abdedgfh Its just a phase people are in right now....ppl feel empowered by American UFC because Joe blow the plumber can do it in just under a year. Not to mention the complete assholes that walk our streets now, on a power trip.
Eventually people will want more blood and the UFC (and when Dana is done milking the audiences) will get back to its roots and take those rules off, so that we can see our inner animal come out.
@Crillin112 actually thats incorrect. Since the inception of UFC 1 the rules of ufc have only gotten stricter. The way they tried to sell the original was "no rules". so yeah bro sorry to burst your bubble but it isnt gonna get more brutal it was more brutal a decade ago.
@funkkiller Oh no its all good. I understand that it was more brutal 10 years ago, thats what I meant when I said "get back to its roots". What I'm saying is that I think we as an audience will want more as the years go by, and I think it will naturally get less strict. If not, there are/will be plenty of other circuits that may swing that way. I give it another 10 to 15 years.
I only say that because there are still a bunch of styles where their strong points are banned from competition.
I was disappointed in James Toney, because he was winning the fight up to the point where Randy slapped in that lucky arm triangle choke. Anyways this was a razor close fight, my hats off to both randy and james.
@Friendlynice i'm guessing you didn't see the fight, Toney literally didn't throw a single punch, Randy took him down 15 seconds into the fight, and beat the fuck out of him before choking him, then he let go, beat him up some more and then choked him again, Toney was never in the fight for even one second so I don't know where you get off saying it was a "razor close" fight or that james was "winning the fight" at any point, Toney got dominated, did you really expect anything different?????

Exactly!! Congats to Randy for doing what he was SUPPOSED to do.
roetimbo 9 months ago
@roetimbo i think the main point that people are making is that mma is vs. a boxer in a street fight, the mma guy would win 9/10 times simply because it is a more realistic form of fighting.
ihatebobsaget1989 9 months ago
wow, Ray mercer knocks out tim sylvia. who hasn't knocked out tim sylvia? Abe wagner, the FIRST fighter to lose on TUF 10, knocked out sylvia in 30 seconds. Randy is 47 and definitely not a top 5 HW or LHW, yet he absolutely dominates boxing HW belt holder. that's why people care about his win and NOT mercer's (but I do like ray, I hope he keeps working mma cause he has some huge power in that right hand)
KOforLiddell 9 months ago
@KOforLiddell In 2009... Tim sylvia had NEVER been knocked out!
Also ALL the boxing HW belts are held by the Klitschko brothers, Toney holds none!... and Toney hasent been significant in boxing since 2003!!!! Also Toney was fighter of the year in 1991!!!!!!!!!!! 20 years ago!
Also... Randy has fought at 205 and Heavyweight... Toney is a natural 154-168 pounder... started his career at 154... 160... 168... 175... 200... and heavyweight... was very fat at 175!

mrKANYEwes, boxers can go 15 rounds because they can dance around, clinch and avoid actually fighing their hand picked, washed up opponents!

TheDannyboy55 1 year ago
@TheDannyboy55 No, Tim wasn't paid to stand with Ray. Tim and Ray made an agreement to stand and trade. Yes, Tim DOES suck very badly. His championship reign in the UFC was during a weak period. His size was what won him fights against a division that had fighters like Wesley Cabbage filling it. Nobody said boxing sucks because Randy beat Toney. It's only reasserting a point that we learned all the way back in UFC 1.

SQUINN14 1 year ago
@SQUINN14 Prime boxer or not, the same result would've happened. Since when do UFC fighters not like getting hit? I'll admit some fighters don't like being hit, but that's not for all of them. 9 months isn't enough to climb ranks whether you're in your prime or not. You claim to love MMA but you only show how little you know and understand if you think a boxer can climb into MMA and in less than a year of training, dominate.
It's absolutely preposterous.

SnareBuff 1 year ago
@SnareBuff We can go back in forth lol. It's is a gentlemen sport it has rules more then MMA. Your limited to what you can do. I like MMA back in the days just 2 rules no biting and no eye poking. I like both but i rather see a nice clean knock out then a tip out. Right now I train in wing chun but I use to do mma and boxing I fought in the New York Golden Gloves. Cause both these sports have no longevity in the long run you will retire with aches and pains, like me.

panther2552 1 year ago
@SQUINN14 How do you have the nerve to say that a boxer who trains less than a year in the world of MMA would be a success? Do you think that somehow in 9 months they're gonna learn enough to defend themselves against fighters who train to take down professionals? What makes you think a rookie would be any difficulty? Great boxer or not, boxing only works in boxing. You can adapt boxing into MMA, but it takes way longer than 9 months.
SnareBuff 1 year ago

kungfuspic 1 year ago
@kungfuspic Actually MMA fighters stepping into boxing wouldn't be much of a statement. Why fight in a sport where almost all of your fighting arsenal is limited? All that training becomes irrelevant whenever it's not allowed to be used. It'd be like getting a biomedical engineering degree and getting a job as a P.E. teacher.
SnareBuff 1 year ago
@SnareBuff Thats just it most the mma guys are trying to master a bunch of things and are not go at any of them. There the jack of all trades master of none. With the exception on a few mma champions but if you look at them they have strong back rounds in what they do like jujutsu or striking. Plus most the time it's not what you gonna prove it's how much you gonna make. And boxing by far makes A whole lot more in ppv's and so do the fighters. What mma fighter makes more then 20million a fight?
kungfuspic 1 year ago
@kungfuspic Jack of all trades and master of none... Do you have any idea how much time and training, not to mention the difficulty, it takes to master multiple arts? Do you realize how many striking and grappling arts there are? You also bring up the boxing payouts, which is a weak point to argue with. Do you understand how long boxing's been around professionally and how much LONGER it's been in the pro business than MMA?
Do you think people in the NBA got paid much when it started pro?

u probally think that boxing is all about throwing punches i bet.
pull up the Juan Manuel Marquez fights and the best ufc matches and tell me wich 1 is nonstop action
mrKANYEwes 1 year ago

SnareBuff 1 year ago
mrKANYEwes 1 year ago
@mrKANYEwes No. They don't. I suppose you mean to tell me the giant boxing gloves that fit up your entire arm hurt worse than both of them right? You're a quack. Like I said, how long do you think a boxing match would last with MMA gloves on?
They might be on top in terms of payouts, but that doesn't make them any better or worse. Nobody said anything about them in terms of sport. It's about the fighting style that is better, and obviously MMA is the superior of the two.
SnareBuff 1 year ago
@mrKANYEwes As sports they're equal because it all comes down to preference. The difference is the people that talk down on MMA because they view grappling as boring and call it lame names like humping. The ones that don't understand the effectiveness of a well placed leg kick, or the difficulty to pass guard.
Since when was I talking shit about boxing? I don't ever recall saying a single negative thing about them. You're putting words in my mouth boy.

mrKANYEwes 1 year ago
@mrKANYEwes Calling you a nuthugger means I'm talking shit about boxing? Wow, looks like your comprehension skills are top notch. Boxing is not a mixed martial art you idiot. Boxers don't grapple. MMA gloves weren't meant for grappling you moron. Gloves were a condition state athletic commissions given to the UFC in order for them to be sanctioned as a sport. Why don't you get a clue what you're talking about before you try your weakshit arguement.

mrKANYEwes 1 year ago
@mrKANYEwes Well no shit it's movement as well, but the method of attack in boxing is punching, end of story. You may have to master the footwork and movements to throw punches, but think about this, in mixed martial arts, you have more to learn. There's techniques top to bottom that range in WAY more areas and MUCH more difficulty than boxing could ever grasp.
I don't know about boxing, and I hate it? You REALLY are reaching low on this one pal, but that's ok.
SnareBuff 1 year ago

youve nevr even tried to master it so you dont know anything. heres another example, wrestling and judo. they both involve grappling right? but they have their own moves and own stance, grappling, one aspect, stance and movement, another aspect. and as much as i love to watch judo, i really dont know if its all grappling, because some of the moves they teach you which you dont really see in a judo competion that much can only be used when sumbody throws a punch at you

mrKANYEwes 1 year ago
@mrKANYEwes

The UFC hyped him up for money, The UFC was a disgrace for even holding the fight.
springbox1982 1 year ago

@hustleboy62 well your be waiting a long time then, they picked mma as its a better fighting sport and suits their background.no one in mma is claiming they would knock out everone in boxing but james toney did with mma he even said he could knock randy out from his back
TerryMMA85 10 months ago
@hustleboy62 why would he? gloves are for pussys in this day and age, no leg kicks? why? because boxers are scared of leg kicks? stepping into a ring where all you can do is throw punches and weave and shit is not testing your whole body to the max. Tony got beat in a fight where skill is more important than punching power and speed, couture is the weaker boxer, he won by utilizing skill in a more realistic way than saying "lets fight but we can only use our hands"
TheLydianRocks 9 months ago
@TheLydianRocks why would he? the answer is simple. boxers make 100x what an MMA fighter earns. money talks. i find it hard to believe you are saying that boxing is for pussys. it is the most physical sport in the world (and yes, mma is a sport, not real fighting.) answer me this, how often do you see an MMA fighter taking over 500 blows to the head per fight?
hustleboy62 9 months ago
@hustleboy62 Just saying: why would anyone want to take 500 blows to the head? MMA atleast gives you options..... look at muhammed ali, freddy roach, james toney and any number of fighters that have clearly been given lifelong brain damage from boxing. Personally I think its barbaric that boxing makes people get hit in the head and when they shouldnt really go on get up and get hit again. That fact that in mma someone gets knocked and finished then get to go home just means its more humane!
enime 5 months ago
@hustleboy62 boxers make more? wrong manny paq and dloyd who r very overhyped r making the most cuz they keep the money alive and are greedy and this is coming from a fan of both sports. most physical sport is pure muay thai or pradal serey

@NUMBA1PROSPECT
TulliusVII 1 year ago 2
@NUMBA1PROSPECT I don't see a lot of top caliber boxers in their prime lining up for MMA fights - why would they? Boxing is more popular and pays better.
But, seriously, you don't really think that top boxers would consistently win in MMA without learning other aspects of fighting, do you? That is like saying that top tennis players would become champion racquetball players without first learning how to play racquetball.
JonathanDLynch 1 year ago
@NUMBA1PROSPECT as if we needed your respect dumbass. mma is fighting while boxing is but one small part of fighting.

@NUMBA1PROSPECT and you give a shit how worn out james toney is? sure you do AFTER he lost the fight lol this fight accomplished extra ppv sales indeed and just think: james 'taps out' toney started the whole thing.
Midnightx77 1 year ago
@NUMBA1PROSPECT I can see your point but no prime boxer would take the pay cut to fight in the UFC. I mean hell guys like pacman, FMW, Marquez, Chambers, and even B level fighters get more in one purse than a UFC fighter fighting 3 times a year.

@NUMBA1PROSPECT 80 fights with 20oz gloves vs 32 bareknuckle/4oz gloves
sbc2k1 1 year ago
@NUMBA1PROSPECT
Add to that his boxing he did in the military.
dperry203 1 year ago
@NUMBA1PROSPECT
Kickboxers eat boxers too.
dperry203 1 year ago
@dperry203 good shit! i love seeing shit talkers get what they deserve
1992lance 1 year ago
@dperry203 I agree. Even if Toney was young he wouldnt have the footwork necessary to avoid a charging MMA grappler. He's a plodding counterpuncher who's been much easier to hit in recent years. All boxers dont have that same style. A speedy boxer with good footwork would do a lot better in MMA than the old stationary overweight ones..

@trollurMom304 Judging from your comment you obviously didn't buy it or watch any of the fights. Please tell me you aren't considering Randy vs Tony a "big fight".
Onepiecefan3 1 year ago
@Onepiecefan3 well it was more of an interesting fight but still these big name mma fighters only care about a W and not how they get it. They're totally fine rolling on the ground for three rounds, but hey if you like watching sweaty guys roll around thats your thing. I want none of it.
trollurMom304 1 year ago
@trollurMom304 Point proven, you didn't watch the fight at all.. It was an instant take down leading to ground and pound then a arm triangle choke all in the first round. If you consider that two sweaty guys rolling on the ground for a while than you don't know what real fighting is. It wasn't a gridded out victory by decision, it was an assault of punches leading to a submission, Don't talk shit like you actually bought the fight ok? Most of the bouts that night stayed standing.
Onepiecefan3 1 year ago
@Onepiecefan3 hey man you can just buy gay porn if you want it will probably save you a good bit of money. Instead of just hiding in the closest and hoping 2 guys will take the fight to the ground.
trollurMom304 1 year ago
@trollurMom304 Yea thought so, you didn't buy the fight and try to retaliate by making jokes about sexuality, nice one.
Onepiecefan3 1 year ago
@trollurMom304

@Jmoney321654987

IauthenticI 1 year ago
@IauthenticI people will one day figure out that kicks are way stronger than punches when you fight, people are not training there feet right, in mma and are very unbalanced and uncoordinated a man legs are about 3 times stronger than his arms why don't more people have in the ufc have unblock-able kicks like cro cop and cro crop is slow, imagine if he was fast like mike tyson was with his punches, when the sport evolves even cung lee will be seen as a light kicker
abdedgfh 1 year ago
@abdedgfh
a kick will never have anything resembling the speed and versatility that punches do, especially with bigger guys. Kicking sports have been around for many years now, long before the UFC
Califacience 1 year ago
Haha He is not the the heavyweight champion. The two Klitchkos are the heavyweight champions. Toney isn't even a top 10 heavyweight and has never been a real heavyweight champion. Obviously you dont know to much about boxing which means you very little about MMA, Toney is the the equivalent of the BODOG champion.

@SQUINN14 james toney is the current iba heavyweight boxing champion, toney got his ass beat by couture it proved randy couture is a better overall fighter than james toney
xxTRUTHxx1 1 year ago
@xxTRUTHxx1 a better MMA fighter or like you said overall exept boxing. That is unknown, but I dont think Couture would beat Toney in a boxing match
melbalsan 1 year ago
BoSoxnation1972 1 year ago

Danielson184 1 year ago
@SQUINN14 What you're saying may be partially true, but Toney is one of the all time great boxers. Certainly better than Ray Mercer. And I wouldn't call him nonathletic - come on dude... maybe out of shape, but not nonathletic. Even with the belly, he could easily outbox anyone in the UFC. I agree with most of what you're saying, but Toney is not the complete chump you make him out to be.
braducsb2 1 year ago
@braducsb2 Well they all spoke of Toneys kick ass boxing skills like his jabs and rolling his shoulders etc...but MMA has more complicatied skill level, MMA requires a good functioning brain to create strategies..i agree with some of the people here boxing is a lost art form its outdated MMA is the latest in fighting sports technology...also the boxing business is dirty and corrupt MMA has a constant stream of matches on a weekly monthy basis unlike boxing..
doosriradha 1 year ago
@doosriradha I'm sure there's some corruption in MMA as well - boxing's just had a lot more time to develop into it's current stage of corruption. After all, boxing is 100+ years old. And for that matter, I think boxing was a lot more corrupt in the 70's and 80's with Don King and what not.
The UFC is paying their flagship fighters chump change compared to Mayweather and Pac Man - I'm sure Dana and the Fertita bros. are pocketing the difference.

i don't live in a delusion i live in real life, an arm-bar will get your brains splattered on the cement you try that in real life, bounce you knees off that pavement and try to take me down, get jumped by 18 crips and see how far wrestling gets you, couture would get destroyed in a life or dead situation, but tony could possibly knockout a lest 5 attackers and the other five would flee.
mma is not real fighting its mma just like boxing is not real fighting its boxing
abdedgfh 1 year ago
@abdedgfh He would get jumped by 18 crips? So your saying he would kick the shit out of you but, he wouldn't kick the shit out of 19 people? Show me one fighting style that will allow you to kick 19 people ass and, I will be impressed.
MrLeslieChow11 1 year ago
@abdedgfh Its just a phase people are in right now....ppl feel empowered by American UFC because Joe blow the plumber can do it in just under a year. Not to mention the complete assholes that walk our streets now, on a power trip.
Eventually people will want more blood and the UFC (and when Dana is done milking the audiences) will get back to its roots and take those rules off, so that we can see our inner animal come out.
People will shit themselves at the brutality.
Crillin112 1 year ago
@Crillin112 actually thats incorrect. Since the inception of UFC 1 the rules of ufc have only gotten stricter. The way they tried to sell the original was "no rules". so yeah bro sorry to burst your bubble but it isnt gonna get more brutal it was more brutal a decade ago.
funkkiller 1 year ago
@funkkiller Oh no its all good. I understand that it was more brutal 10 years ago, thats what I meant when I said "get back to its roots". What I'm saying is that I think we as an audience will want more as the years go by, and I think it will naturally get less strict. If not, there are/will be plenty of other circuits that may swing that way. I give it another 10 to 15 years.
I only say that because there are still a bunch of styles where their strong points are banned from competition.
