You uploaded this vid a day before I've seen a Barred owl. They really are beautiful birds! December 28th, 2007 was the only time I've seen one of these. This is an excellent video!
Any tips you have for spotting one? I've even tried calling for them, but noone answered. haha
I wish I could give you tips for seeing owls, but I'm generally very unlucky about seeing them -- but the DDO Barred owls (I think we actually saw 2 different birds over several months) were a real treat. Try early morning and at dusk when they hunt. We also had views of Great Horned Owls on the DDO property. Unfortunately, Metrus, the site's new owner recently plowed most of the meadows and disturbed the vole population (a primary food source for owls and hawks on the property).
Thanks Mazryonh -- we're still fighting to keep it as a park. People have seen Great-Horned Owls there, but I've never heard of a Snowy showing up -- but that would be amazing!

You're kidding!
I get really pissed off about developement occuring, despite every effort to protect and preserve a peice of land.
Yeah, I've only seen one owl (Barred) and heard one great horned owl in the wild in my entire life. Both in the Albany Pinebush in Upstate New York.
Well, Thanks for the tip!

Too bad the DDO will soon be sold and then no more wildlife sanctuary. I'd hate to see a condominium complex there or another big mall.
I wish I could see a Snowy Owl or Great Horned Owl there.
