First of all, the WTC would have been MUCH taller than the surrounding buildings. Secondly, the Airbus came to rest not far from the Concord. A visit to Google Earth shows that area well north of where the World Trade Center was which was near the southern tip of Manhattan.

The Airbus has what we call LAWS, and in case of a double engine faillure, as it is in this case, u are reverted to a Direct LAW therefore you loose all the protections you might have. The pilot did a nice job, and yes, the plane did what is was supposed to do. It does have a DITCH switch overhead, where it seals the cabin as much as possible, im not sure they had time to do the whole proceadure though.
