@MrAngrygary according to the documentry that was done on Rory it was said but it really doesn't matter as Rory wasn't after reconition if he was he would not have stuck to the blues in a time when they were not that popular, he was a true gifted artist, ive always have been a Hendrix fan but Rory was special.

for all of you people that don't believe hendrix made that statement it was in a interview after woodstock, the only other white bluesman that wore the finish off there guitar from sheer playin was S.R.V. and i don't think either one of them could have give a fuk about this argument

@dictator54 If you refer to the article on Wikipedia, where there is a so called link, that is no proof, again only the statement of a reporter that repeats what he heard someone said. I am searching for this particular interview where Jimi really said this for so long now, but I cannot find it anywhere. I red all the interviews in Rolling Stone andwatched sall tv interviews from 1967 till sept.1970 just before he died. I can't find it, so if you know where it is I would be grateful

@dictator54 this is an urban myth. the closest anything was said resembling that was when moving sidewalks(featuring billy gibbons later of zz top)opened a few shows for jimi. he was asked who he admired at the time and he sais something to the effect" that young guy billy gibbons. i am a true rory gallagher fan and say him 3 times in the late 70's. but this alleged quote never happened

I was lucky to've met RG on a couple of occasions in 1972..purely on a casual basis, after the gigs. A real anti-star..a sincere guy.

Quite different to the Glam Rock Era, which was in full swing in 1972.

@Kondzio717 In terms of imagination, he was greater than any on that list. A far better acoustic guitarist than ANY of them...and if you're good on acoustic you\ll skate on an electric.

He pipped Clapton for "Best Guitarist Of The Year" in the 1970s.

Hendrix was asked around the time of the Isle Of Wight concert "Whats it like to be the greatest guitar player in the World?|

He answered " I don't know..why don't you ask Rory Gallagher?".

@Kondzio717 If you consider--Neither Clapton nor Rory G were known for their songwriting skills in 1972. However, they were known as guitarists foremost and Donal Gallagher says that Rory was embarrassed by the accolade since there were loads of guitar players around at that time. Clapton became better known as a songwriter around the late 1970s, when doing crap like "Wonderful Tonight" .

@loai050 That's what I mean - best guitar melody maker, which means guitar composer, not best giutarist overall (including playing technique). You've got example of David Gilmour, not a greates technician, but posses remarkable talent to composing beautiful, emotional guitar solos. They're not coplicated in technical terms, but pure soulful.
