  • This was Loretta Lynn's first big hit. Can't believe I'm hearing Sinead O'Connor sing it!

  • 0:44 the girl is so cute <3

  • I like both versions from Loretta and Sinead. This song obviously meant alot to Sinead to sing and make a video. This was about the time when both she and Loretta were struggling(Loretta much earlier tho) with becoming superstars very quickly and while they were very young. Sinead is an artist, she doesn't sing songs for fame and fortune. She was going through some rough times in her personal life at the time I think. But she is an amazing singer and artist.

  • I wish you success even if that keeps us apart.

  • I'm a Loretta Lynn fan and I think this version is great.

  • @pocketgoth so do I !

  • Well, I doubt that Loretta Lynn would recognise her song here. This, in it's original form is a country song written by Loretta Lynn back in the late 60s. I can't say that Sinead has improved on the original in any way.

  • rope the pope and all peadophile priest bastards

  • Almost forgot; anoher great song of Sinead!

  • another true artist! amazing her gestual language specially when she says 'ur killing me' her songs are really deep!

  • I am so chuffed to have found this..... I have looked for this track for years ( I couldnt remember what the title was, and I thought it was a collaboration with someone too ) without sucess. Saved to my favs now, great song evoking so many memories.....

    best wishes =D

  • she was the original girl with the dragon tattoo!!!

  • It's unbelievable that people seemed to be more outrightly angry that somebody ripped up a stupid picture, rather than being angry that an organization was directly complicit in the abuse of children, and continued to be inactive or ineffective in atoning and acknowledging the responsibility of many ruined lives.

  • @loveshistory I think the saddest part is that it's, what, twenty years later? And it's still the main thing people think of, talk about, when it comes to Sinead. Who knows? Maybe it actually did her career some good: maybe otherwise she would've faded into the obscurity that enveloped so many other promising artists that came out when she did. But I wish people could just focus on her talent more, and not on some stunt she pulled on SNL two decades plus ago.

  • love sinead, shes like pioneer with educating bout abuses in ireland, she would be a saint except the catholic church in ireland is still strong with its evil dogma, unfortunately some stupid, ignorant people still accept it.

  • brilliant! thanks for posting indeed!

  • This song is so grand...I love it!

"We used to go out walking hand in hand..."

  • this woman always gives me goosebumps.... so raw.

  • By FAR one of my MOST FAVORITE Sinead songs.

  • love this damn song..lol

  • what a great and different version of Loretta Lynn's song. i think Sinead did a good job on it.

  • love this song...reminds me of Bjork's "Play Dead". I love Sinead.

  • @sirsniffy I love Bjork and Sinead both are grat artist

  • well it did... "I never changed, I'm still the same, I never changed. Stop what you're saying. You're killing me. Am I not your girl? Am I not your girl?

  • Any woman that can shave her head and be utterly, breathtakingly beautiful is just that, BEAUTIFUL. Inside and out.

  • omg she's so gorgeous....drop dead gorgeous

  • her eyes are soooooo damn gorgeous!!!!!!

  • beautyful did she write this too>> im not sure..can somebody tell me if she wrote this too...soooo fuckin nice

  • @prettykiray no she didn't, a couple months ago i saw the original video here on youtube, kind of a country style version by some chick, can't remember her name:S

  • oh thanks its like she revive this song??? But it seems it can relate to her life too....she's so damn gorgeous here...

  • it does relate to her live, that's why i guess she decided to sing it and it great. indeed she is gorgeous

  • @denbal87 Loretta Lynn

  • @prettykiray k

Think Loretta Lynn wrote this one.

  • ah ok..im just wondering because the lyrics are quite related to her real life partners...

  • @prettykiray No, she did not write this song, but she added the line "Am I Not Your Girl" to the end of it. Also, please do not curse on Sinead's videos, she said she doesn't like it when people do that.

  • @gpwhitem im not cursing --actually im just praising her..if you can see my comments..... i love her--Im A HUGE FAN...HOW COME I HAVE TO CURSE???

  • its funny how true is this song thanx 4 uploading

  • why her eyes so fuckin lovely????? i love you sinead!!!! shit ..you are gorgeous...

  • que buen video, nunca lo habia visto!!

  • Does anyone know which sign language she is using? BSL, ISL, some other? Magnificient song, I was 6 at the time, and I'm glad to have it hear to discover it now.

  • Slayer rules!!!!!!!!

  • Jesus !!! Me thinks she is still in love with Peter Gabriel at this time....

  • SHES STILL IN LOVE WITH ME ALL TIME

  • Written by J. Mullins and brought to life by the enigma and genis that is Sinead.

Why can't all pop videos and songs be this good. 1992 too. We need more.

  • WOW!!!

  • Courageous... Beautiful. Always!

  • It's so dramatic!!!! Way cool song.

  • Un fking believable, this song.

  • forgive and you will be forgiven

  • i love this song!!!

  • This is my '6 degrees of separation ' in connection to Sinead. My mother & Loretta Lynn are cousins; this song was written & originally recorded by Loretta; & beautifully re-visioned by Sinead...one of my all-time fave chanteuses!

  • i don't think that she was refering directly to the child molestetion thing when she tore up the picture of the pope. i think that is a symptom of a much deeper problem that lays in organized religion. it has little to do with god and mostly to do with control. it divides us instead of bringing us together and the thought of a hierarchy of humans is just gross. if god created us all equal, which indeed he did, then the idea that the pope should have such power over people is disgusting.

  • Yes, exactly. Religion divides us all.

  • No, Mark902 wrote, that a hierarchy in the organisation of religion divides us. That's something different.

  • man devides himself, not religion!

  • why does she do sign language to this song?

  • why not do sign language?

  • Este video es contemporaneo al incidente "Papa", esto demuestra su plantemiento cabal sobre el tema de abusos de menores. Ella es y sera por siempre el tipo de mujer que yo quisiera tener a mi lado...

  • sinead steals songs... everytime she does a cover... she does it so well that it outshines the original so much to the pint that she make sit her own.... u betta work!!!!! this song is now your's... just like "no sacrifice" by elton john.... he may as well just sing the copyrights to you.......

  • Uh... Maybe because she covers stuff noone's heard of? And please, as if anyone even knows Sinead's rendition of Elton John's Sacrifice.

  • you seem mad, pull yourself together ma'am. the woman does great covers, get over it.

  • I didn't say she didn't do great covers, but it's not like she's actually "stolen" any songs like you said, grabbing songs that noone's heard and making them your own is not hard, just look at Annie Lennox with No More I Love You's, it's not like Sinead ever pulled something like Whitney with I Will Always Love You.

  • i think you can forgive annie for one song and she transformed it into something completely new...her body of work saves her from any ridicule!

  • I wasn't bashing Annie Lennox, just saying that grabbing an underground song that wasn't a hit and making it your own is not hard, since practically nobody has heard it.

  • i dont agree i think she done a great job with that particular track and her version made me seek out the original, not a patch on the annie version but it opened me to it :-)

  • But that's just the point, it's not like you had heard The Lover Speaks version before, because you loved Annie's you seeked the other one like most people and because they sound so different, people often don't like the original.

  • "it's not like Sinead ever pulled something like Whitney with I Will Always Love You." Actually deanriam, Sinead did precisely that. Her song "Nothing Compares 2 U" was originally penned and sung by Prince.

  • The biggest reason why I do like Sinead, because her courage to expose the Truth, but unfortunately, it wouldn't help her enough. Why? Because this world is full of hatred, enviousness, fake, lier, and of course snakes. So, it's better just be quiet!!!

  • i don't think its better to just be quiet. but you will suffer for trying to expose the truth. i guess it didn't really help her to be a major success in terms of fame and money and all of that bs, but she has many adoring fans who she has touched with her messages, which is a better kind of success than popularity or money. i'm not a huge fan, but i have a lot of respect for her. i also love this song.

  • it's sooooooo much better not to be quiet!!! But who has the guts to speak up? Not many.

  • I have supported this woman since all the shit about her came out and i still support her.Sinead, you're a beautiful, strong, passionate person who stands up for what you believe in and the only one to have the guts to say it.much respect,Rob

  • can I have a question,is sinead wrong?

  • luv this vid..actually is my fave by her..

  • am i not your girl?, am i not your girl?, am i not your girl?, am i not your girl?.... i love the last part of this song.

  • She is one of the greatest female singers in the world. I bet she would gain a lot more success, if she didn't do the immature things by reaping the picture of POPE. But, anyway, I like her as I like this video and the song, of course.

  • Well, the POPE thing was not immature at all. That was a VERY powerfull statement that America was in no way ready for. She was way ahead of her time and if she would have done that today, no one would think twice as they know what has been happeining to people (and little boys) at the hands of the catholic church.

  • I saw that when it happened.

I thought maybe she knew something the rest of us didn't.

    Apparently, she did.

    ;o)

    She was awesome.

  • which pope was that?

  • I completely agree. That pope thing was powerful and years ahead of its time. Shame on the pope and the child fucking catholic church. May john paul II be rotting in hell.

  • Sinead has and had a right to be VERY angry with the church and the Pope as a symbol of that. Especially in Ireland, where it's now discovered that children were severly abused, raped and killed in the Catholic orphanages during the last 150 years or so. They were like a Gulag for child abuse. Many kids were just taken, stolen rather, from teen moms because they were deemed to be unfit. There have been at least a dozen of killings, were orphans were beaten to death. Bones have been found.

  • @TheSteelGeneral Thats what the church had also done to native Canadian familes in Canada. Taken children right from their arms and homes, to go live far away from them.

  • Sinead is great, so beatiful, so talented. This song takes me back to the worst time of my life. Gee, I was a walking failure, but somehow Sinead was there to make me feel I bit better.

  • She's amazing.

  • worst period of me life.

  • Sinead and Sign Language. I've always loved you and after seeing this piece... got a lot of respect for you.

    BTW she is a hottie...

  • I love this song. Great stuff.

  • so srtong song... kylmiä väreitä tulee mulle!!!

  • so powerful.

  • loretta rules.

  • why is it that not many people in US specially the teens dont know and dont care about this talented and great singer that the people in Erope? They are missing ...maybe also learning..petty

  • Beautifully arranged piece

  • lol last week i was in a club and saw a woman with shaved hair... i turned back because she just looked like sinéad when she brought out her first album the lion and the cobra... man the woman was incredible pretty just like sinéad was and is...

  • I don't think they will ever be a prettier shaved woman than Sinéad was.

  • She's so beautiful and has such huge eyes and fine features the shaved head actually ENHANCES her beauty. Now that is TRUE beauty!

  • well said, she's really cool and pretty.

  • I'm in search of a video of Sinéad with the song "The shores of the swilly" which was on YouTube before. It was a beautiful one (the song and the video). Can someone help me to find it?

  • am i right in thinking this was produced by the nutty trigger happy phil spector?

  • lol... this version is much better than the other...

  • I think I like Loretta Lynn's version of this better!

But, really, blew me away--Sinead doing a Loretta Lynn song??? Wild! American country TO Ireland.

And I thought it was the other way around!

  • Stunning. A gorgeous version of this song!

  • I love the words in this song. Very true and honest!
