  • Is there any danger to not potting a hardy lily and just allowing it to sit in the pond as it would in the wild?

  • @DiamondNotch If it is an earth bottom pond that would be perfect to plant it in the mud at a level it can grow. Remember most backyard ponds have liners at the bottom rather than soil so that is often not possible. Good Question, we have moved our youtube over to PondMegastore account if you want to see about 180 more videos on waterlilies and water gardening!

  • it is good to know there's a lot of people that loves pond like me. :)

  • so much for the series... 1 video

1 question asked a year ago, no answer...

  • @apauln we have over 180 videos on a different account, check out PondMegastore as the youtube name. Thanks

  • Very nice information... my interest is with natural ponds and plantings in those, but this was a nice primer for lily maintenance... I'll check out your channel now... what's the deepest that you think a pond lily will survive in the U.S. Northeast? One pond I have starts in the spring very high and then drops 3.5 feet on average by mid summer... will a lily survive this drop if the plant is one foot below the lowest water level? Will leaves reach up 4 feet from the crown? thanks! 5 STARS

  • I've found over the years, that when a lily grows out of its pot, it is better to put a pot next to it and let the creeping tuber root into the new pot. You can sever it the next year. This way you get no set back you typically get when repotting 'fresh' as you've shown. Just some thoughts.

  • @rustydog1236 there is no setback when repotting, you dont damage the lily growth at all. You encourage more foliage and blooms right away.

  • WHAT ABOUT SEEDS

  • @Hewhoisabove have not grown from seed but will have video from Mike Giles about seed this spring on our other youtube account, over 110 waterlily videos and counting at youtube pondmegastore channel

  • @PondVlog How about Lotus seeds? I can get the seeds to sprout and produce roots and the first tiny Leaves, but I can't get them past that (they just die)(I follow what seems to be the standard directions on the web and in books). Perhaps you have some experience with lotus seeds you can share in the video too.

  • @rustydog1236 you can lightly scratch lotus seed to get them to sprout. Since most all lotus (all but 2) are hybrids and not species the seed offspring are often dull, sometimes neverblooming lotus. You can have seed from the prettiest lotus or lily produce horrible ugly seed. Except for species they are not replicas of the parent for the most part. One problem you might have is too much nutrients with your see, you need totally clean water, change every few days with distilled

  • @PondVlog water. Notrients will cause rapid algae and damage the seedlings. Again seeds are a lot of work and you may get a batch of uglies. If you want a specific look tubers and rhizomes are the way to go.

  • this really helped me! thanks
