Minecraft - Boat vs. Minecart Speed

If you use a smaller water stream, boats are much faster. Plus, it uses MUCH less iron. It takes a lot longer to build, though. It is mostly just the player's preference.

This is rigged, the Minecart got a booster setting it at max speed, the boat had to start from 0. Boats are much faster.

Pretty sure this experiment is rigged. The minecart has already reached maximum speed when the boat starts moving from 0. So the cart obviously has an advantage because the boat needs some time to accelerate.

@aullikTheBrain No :) When you use this setup and press any direction key while in boat, your boat will break.

the problem with this is that the minecart is boosted by the other one nearlluy all the way down...

@godzilltrain No; people generally used minecart boosters when it worked, and even if it had stopped boosting it, it probably would have gone the same speed for quite a while.

u have to use a lot of iron and use more thing for a minecart so i still perfer boats

look closer, the boats start off 1-2 seconds late so the boat is faster or about evenly matched with the minecart

@Mrblahblah200 Minecarts are a one-time investment. Boats have to be broken down and remade each time. :P

@jpheitman maybe you didn't notice, but he used a special road design for the boat: it's calles EATS and is 100% stable. when using it right, no boats will break, and wood is easy to get. and since 1.6, you also ned a lot of gold for minecart systems, but not for EATS

@JonnyTheMiner I know about EATS. But supposing literally anything goes wrong? Or if you have two separate tracks that are difficult to connect? You just have to carry one minecart, and a minecart track is only one block wide, as opposed to an 8-block-wide EATS road.
