  • I admire his understanding and passion for being a "thinking outside the box" type of psychiatrist. To many physicians nowadays are to quick to prescribe with out a real understanding of the underlying issues.

  • My first psychology professor said that ADD doesn't exist. After that class, switched schools. This was so interesting. I think I need to go see Dr. Amen.

  • I am a patient of Dr. Amen for ADD/ADHD. You all may have doubts but after 24 years of suffering I took a chance and I am on track to get into Grad School.

  • I wish counselors were allowed to recommend alternative therapies, not be limited by agencies and insurance to drug therapy. If we get the power to prescribe drugs, why not nondrug tx like supplements and herbs? We study the bad effects of amphetamine use but are told this is the treatment of choice for kids with ADD/ADHD. Worse, kids' nervous systems are still developing. (scream)So glad for someone like Dr Amen!

  • "Lite candles in church"? I guess that is his view of spiritual matters and prayer. Candles, yeah waste of time, agreed. There is power in prayer however. Maybe some of these people need an excorsism. Leave the candles in the box.

    One might read the bible.

  • @apologiamixer Nothing harmless that enables someone to release their faith should be slammed. Shame on you. A judgmental spirit also warrants a "casting out" of spirits. Quote Michael Jackson "...start with the man in the mirror..." :-) Shalom.

  • Don't miss your chance to meet Dr. Daniel Amen and attend his upcoming lecture. February 19th & 20th, 2011 at Nova Southeastern University in Davie, FL for the "Yes ... We Can Think Outside The Box" Next Generation Conference on Science-Based Medicine. The conference is presented by The Robert Fishman Institute for Training and Research. • The previous commentor Martinj seems to have ANTs in them.If martinj thinks so negatively about the book he/she will never never come out of the unsuccessful loop.Dr Daniel G Amen & Dr Michael Thompson are godsends to us.

  • I got his book and the majority of it is just case studies of people who had problems, then were given ritalin, and got better. It was a big disappointment and I wouldn't recommend it.

  • I like how they don't mention other treatment but stimulant medication even though he says there needs to be other types of treatment.

  • Yep, the drugs help by impairing/damaging brain function.

Brain scans can damage the brain as well.

  • nice post :)

  • Why is this posting called "autism"? Does Dr Amen talk about autism?

  • Why does Didrex work so well for my inattentive add for everything and ritilin just helps me clean or Straterra just helps me study? Why are Spect scan so expensive?

  • how do you stop seizures?

  • You know this man has come very close to understanding the mystery of the brain. But at the end of the day, there is are just things that noone will ever understand.

  • We need facilitys here in Louisiana. We have a lot of pwople here that could benifit. Childeren are being taken from mothers who just need to get the right type of help,it is sad because no one here validates the reality of ADD in Women especially. Many could get off welfare and hold jobs if they got help HELLO REPUBLICANS !!!

  • Than you for posting!

  • About the cost of the treatment. I have 17 years of marriage almost 18 with my husband that was diagnosed with ADD 5 years ago. WE have being paying thousands of dollars in late fees and overdraft fees to the bank and credit industry. Our in-laws have been assisting us with unbelievable amount of money during our marriage. So what is more expensive???

  • So what does bad credit have to do with ADD? I call it being married to a finanacial screw up that buys everything he wants and begs for everything he need. Kick him to the curb lady. You can do bad all by yourself. His ADD is not making him irresponsible.

  • @Vegheadsrock

So financial irresponsabilities is not connected to ADD symptoms? That is what you are trying to say?

  • I don't understand why no one else has looked into the brain for psychiatric problem more then Amen has. It seems so obvious, and makes you wonder how many people where misdiagnosed for ADD and/or maltreated.

  • it's good that there are ppl like him!

  • I agree, but the SPECT scans (brain scans) and followup are EXPENSIVE!!

  • Dr Amen, is a huge influence in my journey to go psychiatrist as well.

  • hgg

  • He's a genius!

  • I tend to look favorably to his sensable (i.e. "look at the organ responsible--the brain"), state-of-the-art approach. And his books I have read--through interlibrary loan, are interesting. However, I wish the scans were more widely implemented and VERY affordable!

  • Dr Amen makes a lot of sense. I just bought 2 of his books - he knows his stuff. His PBS specials are great. Thanks for posting this

  • yeah it doesn't exist i was diagnosed with add as a kid they gave me ritalin for yrs all it did was fuck me up

  • Dr. D. Amen is my mentor. Thanks a lot Dr.

  • omg i read one of this guys books!
