  • 94 people tuck there trousers into there socks and have no style

  • Cant beat a good bit of Roxy Music. Just as good today as it was back then.

  • Can't believe it's 40 years old. Still looks and sounds great. Now where did I leave my keys to the Tardis?

  • Lots of drugs. I like it.

  • I WOULD SMOKE A PALL MALL WITH ENO

  • i love the happy oboe

  • Tripping. Balls.

  • This was Roxy Music at their best. Artrock sublime. I love the later material also, but for me, this cachophony of chaos just works. This was way ahead of it's time. A great performance of this track - way superior to the studio version. Anyone who thinks this track 'sucks' you don't understand Roxy Music.

  • @vermillionsnake Not to totally split hairs, since we're all fans here, but this is a re-cut of the studio mix with minimal performance, Top-of-the-Pops style.

  • @davetheduckable WTF???He is not dead !

  • @icomposethemusic his career is

  • It always makes me smile when I hear Paul McCartney described as a great songwriter.Good, yes, with several catchy (though derivative) numbers, but if you're talking great, you're talking Ferry. The early stuff especially (Virginia Plain,Strictly Confidential,Do The Strand) were light years ahead in terms of originality, artistic presentation and lyrical quality - I've never heard a Ferry song that sounds remotely like anything else. The first Roxy album is the most brilliant and innovative of all time

  • Fuck. I loved Roxy then but they sound even greater 40 years on.

  • R.I.P Brian Ferry :(

  • Roxy were one of the first cross-over bands - commercially successful without producing "pop" music, "Underground" bands like PF, Yes, etc who made progressive music never had a look in when it came to chart success - few releasing singles for this reason. Roxy/Bowie etc broke the mould, - they used "glam rock" to subvert the charts - introduce wild, free music instead of "doowap"/"bubblegum" manufactured crap which dominated at the time. It was brilliant then, it's just as good now..

  • this is just... boring

  • @funkmaster77 so are you,do one.

  • Kids today don't know the key influencers of Musical History - This is classic. Don't give me any of your technical, electronic bullshit you're youth and inexperience demotes you to bottom rung spunk drip. Yours sincerely, Boring Old Fart.

  • This is bad, but it's also kind of fascinating. The band seems not to care one way or the other-- they're on their own planet. I do when the sax comes in and does his arpeggios. In terms of electronic noise, Pink Floyd blows them out of the galaxy.

  • Sometime perfection land on your door step.....This is the band that had the most lasting impression on me through my lifetime along with Hawkwind. The first two albums are my religion.Eno was getting most of the spotlight and Brayn couldn't have that. This band went quickly down hill.I bought the next 3 on hope alone.Eno is world renowned, Bryan who??

  • To all of you who say this sucks: why don't you go back to jacking each other off to your watered down electro/indy pop garbage. You know, that crap that sounds like some guys humming for three minutes that you scene conscious geeks love so much.

  • Comment removed

  • Wow...... This sucks!

  • @TheWulfe17 Why? It doesn't at all.

  • Were cowbells around when this came out? Because I think it needs some.

  • man.. i know everyone says how influential and ground-breaking they were... but MAN this sucks... like beyond spinal tap...

  • @ohfoolishworkerbee How? It doesn't ''suck'' at all i have no idea what you're talking about.

  • @ohfoolishworkerbee It doesn't suck and it was very influential.

  • Anytime Bryan Ferry's sons want to show their friends how embarrassing their dad is, they should show them this video. Anytime they want to show off about how great their dad is, they should play this song.

  • Brilliant me and my girlfriend saw them on numerous occasions in the very early 70's we didn't realize we were watching such talent..beats todays crap hands down.

  • @sidewaysid do you finger her? with 3 fingers? 2 in the pink 1 in the stink?

  • So this was tomorrow calling? It's still great!

  • Roxy, at there best

  • I got into Roxy from Virginia Plain and bought every album until about the fifth..Siren. Then they started becoming commercial and lovey dovey. I recommend all the first albums.

  • I saw him on Saturday Night Live, and he also didn't open his eyes. I don't he's stoned.

  • I have listened to this over and over and it really grows on me. At first I didn't like ENo's part but now I don't hear it sticking out as i did at first.. interesting song.

  • fabulous outfits.

  • i was first turned onto RM 20 years ago but it was only in the past year that i heard this song or saw this video. boy what an experience.after almost 40 years this is fresh and exciting. it shows a style unique and ahead of the times it blows me away every time i see it. brian ferry's allure is stronger here than anywhere. he is sizzling hot sexy almost to the point of sleazy. he will always be a stand out not only for that voice, but for the unrelenting sex appeal he gives off.

  • ok wich one is brian eno

  • @lemonwheels1

Eno is the man in the leopard print with gloves seated just offstage at the VCS3 synthesizer. He appears in full view at 4:14.

  • First saw this on OGWT Years in 2003 while in London. Wow! RM were never the same after Brian Eno left - not that I mind the more sensual music of later years ("Avalon" may be the sexiest song ever recorded), but this was really cool, really experimental-sounding stuff, gave bands like Can, Hawkwind, etc a real run for their money.

  • Been a long time sine 1972 yet this still holds up.

  • Love Roxy Music <3 Miss seeing them live again all together

  • Now that was great, been So So long sing I heard it...

  • I adore this!

  • Eno at one with his pitch-frequency modulator, you gotta love the man for this & all his other contributions to music - even for one who loathes U2 as I do can forgive him for that transgression when you play 'Roxy Music' or 'Stranded'.

  • @greymalkin100 Actually he left the band halfway into 1973, after For Your Pleasure but before Stranded...

  • i can watch this over and over. pure male beautifulness. and i'm a feminist, btw.

  • Grandi Phil Manzanera e Brian Eno!

  • This is wonderful ,big thankyou. ! I love early Roxy Music..I remember this performance clearly when it was on BBC 2+I was just 5..made a huge impression on me,those early albums were totally amazing, still listen to them often:))

.Lovely to see Brian Eno in his Antony Price suit,,god these guys looked amazing!! I agree with the comment below,Brian Eno is my hero too:)

  • The green vampire on sax and flute

  • Brian Eno, you are my hero!

  • VERY ENO ! !

  • VERY ENO ! !

    \

  • I had to do a double take on the guitarist .

I now know where Randy "MACHO MAN" Savage got his look.

Think I'm gonna go snap into a Slim Jim!

  • @edmundjscott yeah, dude. you are a fucking moron. phil manzera and macho man look nothing alike. it would be an unforgivable comment amongst even your closest and dearest friends. do yourself a favor and fuckin think those knida comments. dont type them to make yourself look like a godamn 13 year old douche who has nothing better to do but compare a wrestler to a genius guitarist because of the fact they both wore big sunglasses. haha. damn. what do you do with your time? critique fine art? ha

  • This is such a clever song, compressing a complex concept so succinctly. I remember that pretentious knobhead Whispering Bob Harris disparaging it on Whistle Test (a programme that claimed to champion the avant-garde!!) . This song is from Roxy's debut album, which I still think is one of the most innovative works in music history. Yes,they became more polished and commercial later, but Ferry's songwriting talent remains undiminished. Sadly, the new album frequently hinted at seems unlikely to show.

  • Definitely way ahead of their time! Bryan Ferry has an amazing soothing voice.

  • I remember lurching in from the pub in 1972 and thinking 'What the hell is this!'.You have to remember this was the days of 27 minute guitar solos by hairy, bearded hippies and this was a complete breath of fresh air.Thier first 3 albums were classics.Shame they turned into a caberet band after Eno left.

  • Sensational boffin barmpot rock

  • Apparently the band Ladytron got their name from this. :D

  • Man, these guys were from outer space!

  • Remember reading about Roxy in Music Scene magazine and bought their first single as soon as I heard it 8-)

  • Meanwhile, Eno's over in the corner, receiving transmissions from God.

  • @deneveux He's realigning the universe dude.

  • @clearlogicify lmao

  • What a nice piece of genius music work. The clothes are ridiculous but when you close eyes the music is very good.

  • elvis and bowie had a son

  • brian eno maks the tune better, roxy music is shit without eno...sorry ..but its true

  • @KILLAZXP300 Funny then that Brian Eno is quoted as saying Roxy's finest album is 'Stranded ' ....the first one WITHOUT him! Hahahahaha

  • @KILLAZXP300 but hilarious shit you must admit

  • The end is absolutely genius. I say that as a sixteen year old too. Don't use me as an example though, I agree with the bitter old people haha

  • Sieist23.. that's f'ing hilarious!!!!

I think I saw that thing on a few old "Outer Limits" episodes.

  • ladies and gentlemen, on the nasa space command computer board synthesizer module thingy we've got Mr. Brian Eno!

  • Trippy.

  • Roxy Music the unsung heros of everything came after them. The beatles of the 70's

  • Goddamn how stoned is Bryan Ferry during this petrfomance. Awesome nontheless still he can't even open his eyes.

  • @TheExploitedable i doubt he's stoned he always looks like that when he's singing even now

  • @TheExploitedable Hi as Fawk

  • Wtf is this shit

  • the best

  • im 19 and this is great music

  • @tocoolforschool11rts Aren't you a bit old to be such an attention whore?

    You're 19 and like Roxy Music, whoop-dee-fucking-doo, you're a prodigy.

Bryan Ferry should pass on his CBE to you for being such a unique and special teenager.

  • I remember watching this as a kid of 7 thinking ???? - How wrong was I!

  • Well said suzannji.

  • Sit back.close your eyes... those where the days

  • This Song, the lyric's define the Genius! of Bryan Ferry, his love not only for Music but aslo for Art is shown via the Image Roxy Music Chose to share and Indulge with not only themselve's but their fan's who have stayed loyal! and what choice do we have with such song's given to as such as "Ladytron" ;-) smilemediagroup

  • I kept buying their LPs because Creem Magazine said they were great, but I just couldn't wrap my head around them. Then something just clicked while listening to Country Life, and I discovered I had a bunch of great albums to catch up on!!

Not to mention all the spin-offs, oddball solo projects, and band mash-ups.

I soon had my very own British invasion going on right in the middle of Lynyrd Skynyrd Land.

  • @PRIVATEAYEIEYE

I am really jealous that you had this experience. I only got to listen to music as a late teen in the early 00's, thanks to the magic of this series of tubes called the internet.

  • @HelicopterHoneymoon It sounds great in retrospect, but I was going through the same thing you are; Searching for the good stuff when all your peers are up to their necks in crap.

Just watch out for the Indy Superiority Complex.

Symptoms include, but are not limited to:

    Ugly hair and excessive tattooing

Sneering at anything melodic or sentimental

    A compulsive Velvet Underground fixation

Prefacing statements with "THAT'S not REAL rock and roll!"

A knee-jerk hatred of the 60s and "Hippie" music.

  • Roxy Music , so ahead of their time in 1972 considering a lot of the other crap that was around!

  • BRYAN FERRY TO BRIAN ENO. CAN YOU GIVE IT AN OUTER SPACE FEEL?

  • What the fuck? Where did I just go?

  • I like that stripey bumblebee mike cover he's crooning into

  • I was absolutely fond of Country Life LP than Old Grey Whistle Test album which I enjoyed very much but was "difficult to understand" to me in those years, now suddenly via the oboe solo intro in "3+9" I came to hear this wonderful piece of sounds and remember it again and somehow me even find "Ladytron" much closer to my heart and my brains than ever! That band was a jewel so advanced to my somehow light perceptions of music so I just want to say: Magnifique, Marquee84! 2011 Thanx to u...!

  • looks kinda like emileo estevez

  • Brian Eno is pure FASHION love him!! 4:10 to 4:30

  • Au contraire my friend below. This is superb progressive art rock. Roxy at their best and most inventive.

  • Not one of Roxy's better songs. Try All I want is you, the thrill of it all, Avalon, Love is the Drug, Out of the Blue.

  • @11xzxzxz i think you screwed that up, unlike avalon and all i want is you, it is one of Roxy Music's best songs, along with Remake/Remodel and Do the Strand

  • @11xzxzxz i think you screwed that up, unlike avalon and all i want is you, it is one of Roxy Music's best songs, along with Remake/Remodel and Do the Strand

  • @storiesofu Difference of opinion that's all. This song is boring and so is your site.

  • @urheadonastick You are very funny guy .. always unintentionally. Go take a flying fruck at a donuts in the skies or with ferries.

  • @11xzxzxz

I was going to retaliate with some ugly verbal savagery but you profile page shows your into some good music-Seems you would be cool enough to hold your tongue but whatever.

  • @urheadonastick Thanks for your compliment. I am sorry what I said but you started it.. I am normally a sensitive guy .. too sensitive which is why I attacked. Write me anytime..

  • How can 72 people not like this

  • @bennevis21

Because everybody has different music taste. Who cares who likes it and who does'nt.

  • Saw them in York back in the early 70's, awesome band. The lounge lizard came on in a white tux. Phil Manzarana played like a demon.

  • I remember coming home from the pub and watching this live on Whistle Test. It blew my mind and I bought the 'Roxy Music' album the following day. The album cover is a work of art and features the gorgeous Kari-Ann Moller. Roxy were totally avant garde in musical direction & fashion. Truly sub zero cool!

  • @711honved

    That's one beautiful anecdote, man.

  • the pork ask : not is rock is roxy music!!

  • MUY PASADOS :) BRIAN ENO AND BRIAN FERRY UNA COMBINACION ESPECTACULAR Y OBVIO EL GRUPO COMPLETO COMO TAL

  • I played my fave Roxy tracks ( from the first 3 albums) to my 20-something boyfriend a few nights ago - he's seriously into 70's and post punk electronica - and happily admitted that this lot had slipped under his radar (HOW?????) - and his reaction was a joy! Basically 5 soloists weaving spells - and Mackay is worth 5 synthesisers. Just my opinion. But then I'm 59.

  • what drugs was eno on so advant garde and what about the electric lounge lizard bryan ferry with his cool tiger skin jacket not to mention manzanera, mackayand thompson this was glam at it,s very best the music the costumes the glitter and the drugs.just wish i had been there.

  • This was Roxy Music at their glitter height. Before they got all soft and romantic and, sorry Bryan, BORING. Their first three albums are magic.

    Eno's like the Mad Scientist!

  • This was Roxy Music at their glitter height. Before they got all soft and romantic and, sorry Bryan, BORING. Their first three albums are magic.

  • roxy is really unique group. no one is like them, and they are like no one.... love you, mr Eno!

  • WOW!! I've never seen this before. So incredibly beautiful. Thank you for showing this.

  • @wailin1967 agreed.

  • one brain=brain eno. gotcha, hows bout kings lead hat? ya anagrammers out there.

  • brian eno roxy music. what a fucking star

  • absolute gold, classic.

  • @Ginpeg1 agreed!!!

  • Huh... 69'er dislikes?

  • haters shut up. MGMT is great. Brian Eno is greater. BUT MGMT IS STILL GREAT. You don't have to like ONLY the top 10 best artists in the world. it's FINE to love music that isn't quite PERFECT.

  • @xmoshimoshix61 then goway bra, mgmt are going to be lucky if they get remembered as baby flaming lips for frat boys. brian eno' has and will continue to influence countless generations of musicians.

  • @Bruceholvenstot i love it when people claim to know so much about music...baby flaming lips? really?

  • hm.... very good music :P

  • Andy Mackay loved his jackets didn't he? LOL such a great band.

  • Brian Eno is such a badass!!!

  • holy shit what is that awesome spaceship controlling looking instrument that dude is making space noises with?!

  • @allycandance That is the VCS3 "Putney" synthesizer manufactured by the British company EMS. Pink Floyd used one on "Dark Side of the Moon." The band Ladytron (guess where they got that name) also use them (see the Ace of Hz video). Rather expensive museum pieces nowadays. There's one on eBay currently selling for $26,000 USD.

  • brian eno is god

  • @TheMegaghost85 amazing

  • That was friggin' awesome, there's a lot of funk in there for good measure too. A funky version of Hawkwind lol

  • Brian Eno looks so fu*king cool.

  • pure ♥ long live lsd.

  • Adventures in a box of Quality streets?

  • It is hard to believe this was not meant to be seen as SATIRE.

  • I always wear kid leather when I'm at the control panel

  • Fantastic tune

  • I just can't believe Ferry was nearly the lead singer of King Crimson!!!! Great Song from a great bnad!!!!

  • For years I used to get Roxy Music confused with Roxette.... ;-)

  • Brian Eno sunk my battleship!

  • @howdifficult1 it was an oblique strategy

  • i remember seeing this in nyc @ 1975 doing acid before we went in ;)

  • @MegaHegira music

  • @MegaHegira Megaprat!

  • Ferry did what Eno never did

  • eargasmic

  • so much experimental

  • wwed what would eno do?

  • they taped this whilst orbiting neptune.

  • @dhamilztron the neptune orbit made young ferry too sultry for this earth. he is juicy weirdness here, just amazing.

  • they were so god damn loaded when they played this that even now nearly 40 years later I can still get a contact high from just watching them play.

  • Beaverligour- Both dude

  • It was funny to see Bryan Ferry on Later with Jools Holland (about ten years ago) watching himself in this video.... great song and video, thanks for uploading. One of the best bands, whose music never age.

  • The guitarist later inspired the look for Boston

  • @savannahwolf ha!
