There clearly mk1 Minis from the infamous greatest film of all time, The Italian Job, & the Macgyver Minis are clearly mk3 onwards. Epic fail but great choice in car.
Kind of says it all about MacGyver, doesn't it? They take footage from one of the most fun movies of the 1960s and manage to make it boring and lifeless just by adding some Richard Dean Anderson.
WTF...I heard people saying that this was "ripped off" from The Italian Job, but I didn't think they meant LITERALLY RIPPED OFF!!! That should be f-ing illegal, licensing fees or no. No creativity these days!
This is a complete fiasco, all or nearly all the scenes are from the film "The Italian Job" in 1969 by Peter Collinson and starring Sir Michael Caine, Nöel Coward, Benny Hill (RIP), Maggie Blye , Raf Vallone and Rossano Brazzi
Why don't people do research before posting comments? The Italian Job was originally made in 1969. The 2003 version is a remake. So actually the Italian Job came first and the footage is indeed from the original Italian Job.
I mean I think MacGuyver was a cool swiss-army branding dude... but I own a mini... and love Italian Job... and I don't quite see how they allowed them to use pretty much all of the scenes which had a mini in it! Blasphemy I say!
I too am astonished and amazed this was allowed happen but more so cause my elf like friend finds it so incredible to interrupt my day with this nonsense..bugger off mick.
Thanks for posting -I've been trying to track down this episode for a long time.I saw it back in the 80's and remember thinking it was copied from the Italian Job but didn't realise how much direct footage was used from the movie (about 40-50% as a rough guess). Quite astonishing really...

How to ruin a good car chase..
turn it into a macgyver and make it in to a real hash..
You can see the difference in the front grill and spot lamps and the rear lights, etc, etc
staceythethird 3 years ago
I like MacGyvers helmet and coveralls.
RainJetSprinklers 3 years ago
The whole idea is that they took the Italian Job scene and turned it MacGyver, which actually made it quite funny.

This is total plagerism! This is discusting! I have 0 respect for MacGyver shows now.

How is it plagerism when paramount owns the italian job AND macgyver?

You can't really "steal" something you own. Paramount produced MacGyver so they have every right to use footage from a movie they made.

"A great deal of the chase sequence was used in the MacGyver episode 'The Thief of Budapest'."
