  • what apps are those besides google earth for us to download?

  • @razorseal The apps are Google Earth and Ham Radio Deluxe, also known as HRD.

  • Yes, you do have to compensate for Doppler shift. 5 kc up or so until the bird moves downrange, then about 5 kc down.

jcbyrns, you'll have better luck with a beam as opposed to an omni directional antenna. I used a co phased set of arrow antennas for Mir years ago and got some beautiful pics off their packet server. Also double check frequencies used and traffic schedules. Many times these guys are talking to elementary schools. A real kick for the kids.

  • I wish Richard would go back up there.

  • @dubhslaine2 I agree, that would be awesome!

  • Dude, all I can say is, damn. Really. That is cool. I'm working on it, but man, I really admire your setup. I love the shot of the UP of Michegan, that is truely awesome.

Good luck for it all. All I can say is you can't be an idiot and set this up. For that, I thank you for sharing this with us!!

  • can u give me the links of softwares u are usin

  • Don't you have to tune for the doppler shift?

  • yes... when you can't copy anymore just click up or down on the freq. My TS-2000 will do this automatically via the pc.

  • Hi is it possible to do this with a Hustler 2m/440 mag mount on the radiator? its all i got right now antenna wise :(

    I have a FT-897D

  • Well, I have been able to do this with a 5/8 wave mobile mag mount on a pizza pan. So, my guess is that it would probably work. You won't get a great signal, but you will get something.

  • oh ok cool thanks :)

  • Actually, take a look at the ISS School Question and Answer Session video. Around 1:50, I have to change freq slightly to keep the audio

  • How did you get Google earth to work with HRD I cannot find the settings or link on my program?Great video !!

  • Thanks!

The Google Earth part is in a beta version. If you go to the HRD website you can find it in the beta download area.

  • Great post I have just started using HRD

  • mmsstv is brill so easy and not fussy re how it connects mind u i still have to try sstv on vhf am primary on 20m 14.230 uk

  • Hi how can I do this ?? Please ? do I need some license ? I just want to receive such data and not sending anything ?

  • You do not need a license.... If you want to do this without a license,... get a scanner. tune it to 146.800 fm. Then download MMSTV software... or get what is in the video- "Ham Radio Deluxe". It is free, but has a lot of other things in it you don't need. MMSTV works great and only does SSTV. Use HRD to track the sats or use any other program out there. Many free ones exist.

Oh, and there has to be an astronaut.. to actually send them down. That is the hard part.

  • hey,

your sstv program gives you overflow so you must lower the audio level.

    73

  • Yup, I know.

  • I use all of the software you mentioned, but how do I make HRD work with Google Earth to follow sats like you demonstrated? I looked all over the place online and in help sections. Thanks and 73's KC5NOI

  • Make sure you use the beta version! It has the Google Earth stuff.

  • hi,great video and audio,i enjoyed it very much,best regards from william.n.ireland

  • You should have called him.. 145.2

  • I wanted to, but didn't have the offset setup in the radio. I also didn't know what the offset was at the time.

  • ok it's cool...
