Haven't listened to much of Grant Green (this is the only one I've heard of him) but after listening to quite abit of old Wes I can definitely say he's bebop. I'm assuming that Grant Green's the same (I'm going to go listen to a Green original right now).
Hey guys, i have a question, i'm interrested in music by Grant Green and Wes Montgomery, mainly Guitar-jazz. What's the name of their Jazz-Style? I've been looking for good radiostations at shoutcast! Do you guys know some of them?
@tonyiommi87 grant green did some amazing work on Blue Note - try to find Idle Moments album and also MAtador. This type of jazz just gets called Modern Jazz. But Grant Green has very much the Blue Note sound - check out any Joe Henderson albums from the period and Larry Young - Unity LP and Andrew Hill. Also Wayne Shorter / Herbie Hancock Blue Note albums. I think you will like them. Grant Green Solid is a great album too if you can find it.
This tune sounds so lazy and the mood the musicians spreading here is so relaxing. It sounds like a time that doesn't exist anymore in this hurry up world of today, I can listen to this for hours and hours also the drumming of Elvin Jones is great and everyone is so laid back, these cats are really cool!
@clwb0fpv exactly cuz its one of those genre's that can succesfully mash up with it perfectly which is why i listen to many 90s and underground hip hop artists cuz they understand the trade and genre of music
This song is a diamond. If they put that in one of those rockets out into outer space friendly aliens would rush to come and relax with us, and any hostile aliens would say 'These guys are just tooooo cool. We have no weapons that could even touch them.'
this is great. i love hutcherson and green. have you guys ever heard the version on Basra by Pete La Roca? Joe Henderson lays down some incredible tenor sax playing on that cut.
I saw Bobby Hutchinson at Yoshi's in Berkeley several years before I heard Green's Lazy Afternoon, which made my first listening that much better. The liner notes said it best: a 4/4 song in 5/4 never felt less gimmicky with Green in charge of phrasing.
Breezin by George Beson, Lullaby of Birdland, and of course other stuff by this guy. Norah Jones (Don't know why), too. Comes down to taste though. Even Burt Bacharach might relax you. There's so much stuff. iTunes "Salsa Rosso" for a great smooth jazz album.
What a fresh and smooth, strong contrast to all of theses high-speed musicans machinegun idiots.. too many of these guys try only to f*ck as many notes in the *s per minute as possible, even in ballads, THESE guys here are breathing the music...just like a good wine, a good whiskey or a long and fruitful night..
@TheJuliusJT that makes no sense at all. you dont have to proove anything but if you're doing something try to be the best at it even if its just for yourself. i understand people dont like metal or shredding or whatever u're talking about but PLEASE dont use the excuse of not having something to proove or being feeling the music to not be as good at playing. someone who doesnt feel and love music wont spend their entire life and hours per day to achieve the level best shredders achieve.
This guy is unbelievable. I can't get enough of him. Refreshing, talented, great tone, tasteful. Just an absolute wow!!!

Once you've heard Morgana King's version,
arranged exquisitely by Torrie Zito, (Taste of Honey Album)
ALL others will fall to 2'nd place.

@tonyiommi87 Grant is more of Hard bop guitarist. Wes started in bebop but he gradualy progressed to more of hard bop/pop style.

Such a beatiful treatment of this song; just plain makes ya
feel good. This music must last forever. Hopefully it will
always be appreciated, and not only by those that came along
when musicians performed music. Thanks so much for sharing this gem!
