  • I want to hear Grizzly Bear do a cover of this, it would sound so good with their style

  • i am not a hipster.

do not put me in a box.

i like animal collective becuase i stumbled upon them when i was journeying wtih a friend. they played with my mind and i have loved them ever since. i also listen to hardcore punk (real hardcore NOT that fucking fighting invisible ninjas screaming bullshit) so if you were to put me in any kind of shape, id have to say a parallelagram is best fitting.

  • if being a hipster means you love great music like this, i'm very proud to say i'm a hipster!

  • the lyics are wonderful to read by themselves

  • if i see someone ine real life that says spits or everymanhybrid....they are gonna get a fist in there jaw and they aint going anywhere

  • This was the song that got me into Animal Collective.

  • HOLIDAY!

  • food baybay?

  • thee greatest people to ever come together and create an inter meshed phenomena of smexy music.

  • LOL CicconeYouth04 is the biggest hipster in the world

  • song never gets old to me

  • Here we come, Mr. Airplane, here we come, Mr. Airplane.

  • Em português: PIREI!

  • No, it's actually a song about watching people in the airport.

The "ticket" is a plane ticket.

  • this song is about LSD. ticket=blotter and their feeling impatient because it takes a long time to kick in and then things just get bizarre :)

  • This is the song that got me into Animal Collective.

  • do you have any idea how long it took me to get into sung tongs?

like 2 years. i am very glad my musical tastes have matured

  • @jamescracksthesky No disrespect, but I was in love with this album the first time I heard it. But ive been into psychedelia and the like since i was like 11.

  • tap into the universal eye

it has nothing to do w/ drugs

    so closed minded

  • @strawberryy3 don't tap into that universal eye too hard, you don't wanna BLIND IT bawhaawhawww

  • college kids?

  • The line length in the lyrics is so awkward and abnormal. Almost all lines are 7 syllables. Makes it sound eerie.

  • @archaist very insightful comment... after seeing a lot of flaming, it's observations like this that make me glad youtube allows for conversation.

  • never stray from ac, they just work every time, in simplicity or complexity, only a sound mind can fill in the gaps, lets fill em till the end of time.

  • this is why i love america<3

  • And then i realized it was called Kids On Holiday because when kids get a holiday from school, they go get stoned. Or at least, that's what I do. And probably what Animal Collective did.

Input? Please no douchebags. This is meant to be funny.

  • First time I heard this song I was insanely high and I started thinking about what the lyrics meant, and this is what I came up with- I started to think it was a song purely about drugs... When he says he's buying their tickets (to go see Mr. Airplane), he meant buying drugs to get high. And then it says "now you're feeling sleepy.." and weed makes you very sleepy. Then "but there's no need to worry, this is just a vacation. It's not permanent leaving," The high will wear off

  • @ck675 there's a boy who's a krishna and he thinks you look pretty

  • Comment removed

  • the first time i listenend to animal collective was better than the first time i got head. i was helping a friend put up some wainscoating on his walls and he introduced me to them, and i feel in love immediately.

  • Music is music. everybody has their taste.

"Don't go changing clothes, when they don't like yours"

  • @MirroredxGh0st thats probably the best song lyrically by anco.

  • sometimes i have to hear AC songs twice to really like it

  • You really don't get it yet do you?

  • @Honideath Hahaha you are too much dude just give it up. If it's so easy to shut you up tell us how... By admitting your right? By stopping talking to you all together? If that's really what you are going to say which I am guessing is true then that makes no sense because if everyone backed down from arguments and always agreed to disagree then we would have no civil discourse and problems would never get solved. This is, albeit, a dumb argument but these guys feel passionately about this ban

  • @Honideath d and their music. They are talking on here in the first place because of that fact. If you would like to come in and ruin it with ignorant "I know I am right try and stop me" kind of comments you are clearly not the type of person I would think likes this band in the first place.. That's all just my 2cents. BTW AWESOME BAND AND SONG!

  • You you are claiming that since I pointed out your sarcasm with a sarcastic statement, I'm being ironic.

Would it be ironic to point out your hypothetical intelligence with an intelligent statement?

Irony would be me carrying an umbrella only to find out it didn't rain that day.

  • It's just there. don't argue with it.

  • Hipster is a word that pisses me off.

I like all kinds of music but I don't classify myself under any "group".

I am me and me like AC.

  • @TheHazyGungan Hipster.

  • @CicconeYouth04 Douche.

  • @IllustriousOgnathon Guilty :D

  • @TheHazyGungan i'm a hipster and i love animal collective

  • @tralalahahahamama You're sexy.

  • @TheHazyGungan hipsters just found out of Anco haha if you are true fans you knew em from the beginning.

  • @TheHazyGungan The thing is though, this is exactly what a hipster would say.

  • What gets me is thinking that they had this in their heads and got it down, or did they just experiment until it got the right feel? Either way, it's brilliant.

  • amazing album.

  • I think this might be one of the best songs ever..

  • anyone who's ever done drugs knows that when your high you get this really intense empathy for the people around you, you feel like you know the person better than you know yourself just by the snapshot you see of their life. I think this song is about just that empathy

  • @xbyiu97 ...sounds like some killer shit you got there.

  • @Wykyd6 oh shut up you dumbass.

  • @thedarkesthole relax man. you, me, and xbyiu97, 6 blotters and a picnic. you won't know what to DO with all the empathy.

  • @Wykyd6 i can agree to that :-)

    though i think i'd like more than 6. ;-)

  • 1: Density or better: beauty can arise by constant tinkering about or by a kind of happy connection with the universal piece of art (or however You can call this Stream of Life)

AC's Jitteriness i feel as a kind of ecstasy, as a joy of the lifebeat. I like that ! It has something childlike, life-affirming, celebrating but it´s also light. And on the same time they are tinkering about a lot.

  • Comment removed

  • 2: And by this tinkering they reach these futuristic mysteries, which they suddenly shape by themselves, here it can become very deep, unknown, growing bit by bit, breaking fresh ground, because the patterns are new, new DNA. And I love this interplay of surfing the wave and tinkering about. Then Density becomes beauty.

When you only surf the wave you create to little for my taste. When You only tinkering, you celebrate to little. :)

  • It kind of means something to me. The peace beneath the storm you know?

  • Bizarrely this reminds me of Steve Martin - Late for School.

  • Damn, they are great nowadays, but this stuff was magical. Sung Tongs is one of the best albums I've ever heard.

  • @WePandas Well you have to admit, Person Pitch was definitely just as good :) Oh and Pullhair Rubeye if you listen to it re-reversed (normal, forward played music)

  • @MonsieurRondu Ofcourse, Person Pitch might be even better than Animal Collective's stuff itself! Like the album of Avey and Kría as well, but come on, it's at least a bit less than songs like these. :P

  • Please, please, please, please

    try, try, try to enjoyyouroots

  • Man this song made me remember about my Salvia experience so much. The way how the song is hard to make sense of from start to end and how the background chord is both still and animate.

  • Best Animal Collective song, period. I like their new stuff, but this is what makes them great. It's like everyone loves Daft Punk's Discovery, when Homework and Human After All are really their great works.

  • @empatheticninja

    Homework was terrible IMO.

  • Probably my favorite Animal Collective song of all times. I dont know what everyone else thinks, but i figured I would share what I think because it is probably why I like the song so much.

I think the lyrics are talking about growing up and being in your teen years. Connect it how you want if you want.

  • At 3:47, in the background are they chanting 'hare krsna' or is it just my imagination? I believe they also say 'hallelujah' in the middle of that. The 'hare' part might be 'holiday' but then there's a 'sh' after that. Anywho. . .give it a listen and tell me what you guys think!!!!!!!

  • @g0pi3 I believe they're saying Holiday (it's a) Holiday (it's a) Holiday at that part, but the "it's a" part is being distorted and kinda held in the background of the song, producing that kinda 'sh' sound.

  • @Vinzet86 I mean, they DO say 'Krsna.' Then when I paid closer attention, while they say 'kids on holiday, holiday, holiday' between the 'holidays' I personally very clearly hear 'hare krsna, hare krsna, hare hare krsna.' If I'm right, I love them even more. :')

  • @Vinzet86 they are just saying "kids on" between the "holidays". Make sense, no?

  • AC is like Bob Dylan the first time he was heard. You're like wtf and almost uncomfortable with the rawness in their sound and voice in Bob Dylan's case but after a while, you're like awe-inspired. At least, that's how it was for me. I never cease to be amazed and inspired when I listen to Animal Collective. :)

  • Krishna? WOOOOOOOOTTTT? Wow. Animal Collective it definitely my favorite band ever.

  • oh and the distorted noise you hear in the background is a door slamming

  • I don't force myself to like AC's music,I just do....I think they make some of the most beautiful music I've ever heard. I'm sure Britney Spears fans say the same thing about her music, and I don't judge those ppl for liking her ven though I think her music is terrible

  • *even*

  • I agree :)

  • @summervets there is no best music

    can you kids shut up

  • @summervets Their newer album is much more accessible for mainstream audiences. I feel it wasn't too much psychedelic noise and wasn't too much folk, but rather a good medium of both. I would question anyone who "was forced to like it."

Anyways, right on with the post.

  • I can understand your opinion. I love Animal Collective and I personally enjoy this song, but it isn't for everyone. Do recognize that some people genuinely like this music and your comment comes across as offensive.

  • like the guy below i know what you're saying might've been saying it a few months back. but it grows on you. i just learned what chord is being played and i cant stop playing it and singing along. and i dont like hipsters

  • You just don't understand :).

  • or we share similar spirit, and we dont have ADD. So we have the patience and stillness to enjoy a little gift from heaven.

  • Comment removed

  • I remember thinking of them sort of like that on my first few listens (not quite as bad, but it was a sort of... what is this? They are too experimental and it makes them just sound noisy).

But they really grew on me. By far my favorite band now.

I think they don't really have a solid melody in most of their songs, just sounds that suggest potential melodies, and after awhile, my brain learned to create the melody myself to go with it. This allows me to connect with their music like no other.

  • awesome comment, mpp def has some melodic more tradionalish songs.

  • @peleproductions EXACTLY! That is exactly how I feel/felt about them.

  • @peleproductions

I totally agree, that's exactly the same for me. Love them.

  • @peleproductions yeah that's cute, except this isn't animal collective, it's just avey tare and panda bear.

  • @Honideath Who are both part of Animal Collective...

Not all Animal Collective songs include all their members. That's why they're called Animal COLLECTIVE. Quoting wikipedia: "Musical collective is a phrase used to describe a group of musicians in which membership is flexible and creative control is shared."

  • @peleproductions that's even cuter, using wikipedia as a reference source. You are awesome.

  • @Honideath I figured you would be the type of guy to give shit for using wikipedia as a reference source. Turns out I was right :)

    Wikipedia = the best source.

Besides, are you really questioning the accuracy of Wikipedia's definition of a musical collective? Come on, really? Wikipedia may not ALWAYS be entirely accurate, but it generally is very accurate, and there's very little reason to doubt the accuracy of the particular statement that I quoted.

  • @peleproductions You are just too amazing.

  • @Honideath peleproduction is totally right, dude

  • @Unrelatedsounds Awesome.

  • @Honideath you're annoying..

  • @aaronthewolf You're not smart enough to figure out how to make me stop, it's pretty easy.

  • @Honideath

    Somebody just finished sarcasm 101.

    Amazing.

  • @TheCrimper Someone just finished irony 101.

  • @Honideath

What's ironic is that you obviously don't understand the meaning of irony.

    Oh lawwwwwdy.

  • @TheCrimper You sure about that chief?

  • @Honideath Now stfu and stop knocking off my jokes.

  • @TheCrimper That, was incredibly eloquent, especially since you and the other genius in here have not caught on to the joke. It was amusing at first that you are not smart enough to figure it out and make me stop, it's incredibly simple, but now it's a little sad.

  • @Honideath While I did tell you to stfu, I now realize it would be more entertaining if you continue to make an ass out of yourself.

And you are deflecting. Do you now understand the term 'irony'?

  • @Honideath ok so yeah, you deff lost that youtube debate. you obvi used the word "irony" in bad context so to make it seem like you owned them was to pull it off as if they're just too dumb to get the joke...no. you just didnt use the word right, and its fine. messing up is less embarrassing than trying to cover it up with the worst excuse ever. its painful to see such a tragic miss step

  • @TheCrimper

    Silly American.

  • @Honideath I love how you say it's not animal collective, when THEIR ALBUM ART clearly and undeniably reads "Animal Collective". Stop accusing the band of lying!

  • @peleproductions Thats kind of what I think there general idea for this genre of music (whatever the fuck genre it can be considered) was. Animal Collective will always be one of my favorite bands

  • @peleproductions couldnt have said it any better.

  • @peleproductions well put

  • @peleproductions I think most people need time for Animal Collective to grow on them. First time I heard STGSTV I was like "what in the fuck is this god awful shit". Now it's one of my favorite albums.

Most of their songs really are melodic, they just hide it under a hiss of electronic experimentation. I love it.

  • @elemeno2 I didn't even know what a hipster was before I started listening to AC. So no, that is not true. But I guess I'm beating a dead horse here, you'll always stereotype.

  • This song is insanely and incredibly awesome. Feels so ethereal.

  • amazingly fresh and real

  • amazing song.

  • def my favorite song on the record.

  • i <3 this album.

  • great ^^

    <3

  • awesome
