  • 2:38 What the hell is that??

  • @WhiteBoyLakeShoreDr Its a flute "jet whistle" effect pretty legit ^_^ since i play flute

  • i played this freshman year along with tempered steel...the best 2 songs i have played so far.

  • I loved playing this in my band at Carnegie Hall!!!!

  • 11:45 YESS!!

  • I love to listen to this song during thunderstorms!! :)

  • 1st chair bass clarinet playing this xD

  • My marching band did an arrangement of this song and Hallelujah(the one from Shrek)

We got third place overall in 4A at Florida State competition.

  • CADETS!!!!!!!!!

  • Oh, god. The Angels have the phonebox... or the french horns.

  • my band just got this piece today... amazing.

  • i loved watching the timpinist player fall on all the left drums : at the 4A tmea. xD

  • i play the tam-tam part of this song for my school. Its so crazy!!!! :)

  • First chair baritone! YEAAAAAH

  • @PenguinFire195 First chair Euphs ftw!!

  • I enjoy this song immensely, but Frank Ticheli is a huge jerk. The man has no patience for a high school percussionist who is unfamiliar with USC's professional grade timpani. Regardless, the epicness of this piece cannot be dennied. WKHS Wind Ensemble 2010 represent.

  • Played this at TMEA with the 2012 4A Symphonic Band! It was an amazing experience! 4th chair trombone player.

  • @Brassboss223 3rd chair trumpet here! I agree it was awesome!

  • 8 people think Lady Gaga makes music

  • @ulog712 yeah, only 8 haha

  • We got to play this for TMEA with Sharon Lavery!

  • @RrodriguezSNetwork

I was working at TMEA! Im with the taft band!

  • This song is awesome! Ticheli is amazing. My band will be playing Apollo Unleashed at Carnegie Hall this year!

  • @azhou8 my band is playing Apollo Unleashed, then i took a 10\8,12\8,7\8 and 160 bpm to the face. Were still playing it

  • Ticheli is the Man.

  • On the other hand, we are playing Suite Dreams by Steven Bryant, and something so painstakingly easy, I would have played it in 7th grade. Two grade 6 pieces, and one supposedly grade 6 piece called flourish for wind band, althoughI'm almost positive we sight-read this in 7th grade.

  • My band director(Mr. Ray at Harrison High school) Told us this was a grade six piece, and as a freshman flutist in Symphonic band, I am very excited play this. I love how this piececan go from chaotic, to world peace-ish. We had Mr. Whitwell(the Vice President of Midwest) come to our shool one day to listen to us. He, being a close friend of Frank Ticheli, called him and let him listen. It was amazing.

  • The trombones in this piece kill me!! Everytime they play their plunger growling I stop my playing and smile, I can't help it!!

  • @HarbringerOfDoom087 well if you look at it all it really is, is one huge counting excercise, so yeah it really isn't that difficult.

  • Cadets

  • I love this piece, and being a trombone player, I think the gliss leading to the final instrumental chord is one of the most epic things in any music. I've read that this is a grade five piece. Grade five being the second most difficult grade makes this piece one to be reckoned with. But if anyone has played the piece straight from the pits of hell, Dance of the New World, then they would know what true agonizing difficulty is.

  • gimme thumb if you go to VTHS

  • @WeavileTheWhacker wow i still dont get it. but it doesnt matter. were not playing this anymore. she chewed us out how everything was our fault and we are the reason we cant play the song. some band teacher she is. you cant give up on your students jackass.

  • I love this, the percussion in our Wind Orch keep hitting the walls with the wind tubes and then we all giggle like idiots and finish playing before we move onto some Ives oh and P.D.Q. Bach... I love University lmao.

  • This is grade six

  • What grade piece is this?

  • @musicislife2096 6, I think.

  • @musicislife2096 According to GIA, this is a grade 4...ridiculous, right?

  • @forevsmiley

You're certainly not the first high school group to play this. Four hour rehearsals for one song? Try 55 minute rehearsals for this song maybe twice a week plus wind ensemble music. -_-

  • friggin no way i can play this. and are band teacher gave up on us we we couldnt come in right...first off im a freshman...on first part...i never learned how to count 6/8 time or 5/7..i only ever knew 2/4 3/4 and 4/4. now im in first band first part and i still cant hit some of the notes well. they moved me up and now expect all this crap out of me. id like to slap you with me horn then burn you with this song.

  • @smallbird5 Your first problem is that 5/7 isn't a key signature. And your band director should be able to gage what music your band will be able to play better. And if you're having trouble with rhythms, you should consider practicing the song on your own with a metronome at a VERY slow tempo, and speed it up. As for 6/8 time, ask your conductor whether you'll be going in 6 or in 2. If he's going in 6, every beat he gives is an eighth note. If he's in 2, every beat he gives is 3 eighth notes.

  • @smallbird5 Duuuude. But this song is so amazing.

  • How come youtube is only counting MY views?

  • this was our marching band show last year :/

  • @GoThroughTheTrees ya one did I listened back nice catch lol

  • I play trombone, but I cannot roll my R's, so cannot flutter tongue, but instead I do a multiphonic a half-step below the note I play for a similar effect, but I feel it can be controlled better than a classic flutter tongue, does this have a special name?

  • 1. Eat

    2. Sleep

    3. Listen to this

  • One minute into the song...."Alright guys, measure 2!!"

  • @wildturkey409 Wait...REALLY?

  • @sitp2 yes o.O

  • @wildturkey409 Ticheli would troll us music centralized people.

  • heard homestead high school play this song (and also played it with them) and this song was was stuck in schools head for like a week afterwards

  • My high school band played this. After the concert, people came up to us and were crying. It was amazing to have that strong of a connection to the audience.

  • the people that disliked this song clearly do not have souls.

  • @LittleFugueFlute our choir director sang, she is absolutely amazing..and ya a couple of our trombones could flutter tounge

  • Did I hear a clarinet squeak at 5:27 ?

  • Oh MAN did I love playing this piece! It's one of the few pieces I've heard that could be beautiful, chaotic, frightening, lively, and soulful all on one score.

  • One of the things I love about drum corps is that it introduces people with short attention spans (like me) to beautiful music like this. Without it I probably wouldn't be as big a fan of David Holsinger, Stan Kenton, Aaron Copland... the list goes on. Up next I'm going to check out Deus Ex Machina. Another song I most likely would have never been aware of without it.

  • i'm in band and umy dirictor had the class listen and the stupid chior people were really loud and we couldn't hear the quite parts and that made the class mad

  • @pirateman just like me and the other 33 people that liked your comment? lol alot of people play it in highschool. I did it last year.

  • Cadets drum corp owned this song.

  • @doughboy90001 not literally though

  • @doughboy90001 Totallyy

  • I saw angles in architecture. Oh well. I enjoyed the music even without radians or structures.

  • I'm pretty sure we were also the first high school group to play this..or director had high goals..4 hour practices every Saturday just for this song..

  • My high school wind ensemble did this at NMEA 2010..we rocked it with only about 50ish members..our director was sweating by the time we were done..I miss playing this!

  • @forevsmiley

Who sang? And you had trombones who could flutter tongue?

  • I love this! Beautiful in every way <3 =)

  • TMEA 4A Symphonic Band is doing this.....imagine how epic this will be with 152 band members

  • Can anyone tell me why he called it Angels in the Architecture? I know about the theme of light and darkness, but what is the Architecture that Techeli was referring to? I would like to hear your opinions on this, as I think it would be important to let the performers know WHAT they're playing.

  • @jondemusiq "There's angels in the architecture, but there's demons in the details."

That's why. This piece was inspired by Ticheli looking at the ceiling in the Sydney Opera House, etc.

  • USC director is the director at our all-state convention next month and we are playing this for TMEA helllllll yeahhhhhh :D

  • @icethunder555 I'm gonna be there too. Heeellllllll yyeeeaaahhhh! :D

  • The scary monsters and nice sprites of classical music. Such an awesome song. Played this at Festival of Winds

  • I saw a Marching band play this. It was freaking awesome!!

  • Possibly the best thing ever is hearing your male members attempt to sing the beginning. In the correct octave.

  • Played this. In high school. As a freshman. At Carnegie Hall in New York City.

    Suck on that. :)

  • I had the privelage of playing this under the direction of ticheli at the all-state band... Suck on that :P

  • playing this in high school on the bass trombone

  • @TMNoob3 yeah well my dad can kick your dad's ass. so what now tough guy?

  • Wine glasses and whirly tubes for the win.

    3. Irish Tune From A Country Derry

    4. J'ai ete au bal

    5. Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral

Yeah, and you thought you were cool

  • @THEEExONEEE

I'm glad that your band is playing great repertoire, but my point was that no one on the internet really gives a shit about what you play in high school.

  • @THEEExONEEE Last year my band played

    Schoenberg: Theme and Variations

    Ingolf Dahl: Sinfonietta

    Borodin: Polovetsian Dances

  • Playing this for UIL....looooove it! Story behind it?

  • Comment removed

  • @defern64 So are you.

  • Cadets are pretty cool but i like the Caveliers.

  • @woofwoofmeow2 The Cadets are drum core. A drum core is an all brass and percussion marching band. If you want to know more, search dci on google.

  • @xdavesbanex drum corp

  • @meadowsb34 drum corps

  • Absolutely gorgeous.

  • A flute player in my band sings the opening

  • @CyberNinjaify mine too...mixed feelings about it lol

  • @bassbonelover i feel the same and also i don't like her very much

  • @CyberNinjaify ya i hate her...annoying flute player, everyone thinks shes annoying as crap...terrible laugh that kills your ears

  • @bassbonelover feels like are taking about the same person lol

  • GORGEOUS bassoon and clarinet solos starting at 09:31

  • My band played this for our 1st movement in our marching show called Beyond. It was hands down the best show our school has ever done <3

  • One of my dreams is to play this piece

  • Not sure if I like it yet, a few fun parts here and there but hasnt clicked for me yet

  • playing this in high school..suck it!

  • @pirateman353 Ikr? XD

  • @pirateman353

Playing Symphonic Metamorphosis. Basis being, your high school isn't as hot shit as you think it to be.

  • @pirateman353 me too, this year

  • @pirateman353 Do you want a gold medal? At least one band has played this the last three years for state. Most of the people listening to this and playing this are probably in high school. It's not really too much of a stretch for high school band.

  • Frank Ticheli is a BAUS

  • @hw789 im friends with him on facebook. and its the real ticheli to.

  • Great Job! I get to play this with my university Wind Ensemble next week and I'm really kicking myself for not listening sooner. It turns out I'm not hearing as much as I thought sitting in the clarinet section :\

Beautiful singer as well! Really suits the style of the piece!

  • Amazing! I love it!!!

  • How can this be the most viewed and liked performance of this piece of youtube with 7:31 ?? That practically ruins the whole piece...

  • @junfun086 Eh I dunno if it ruins the whooole thing... just a little counting goof. Crap happens. :/

  • Fullerton College will be performing this in our Winter Concert Dec. 8th. Come out and support!

  • hevenu shalom alechem? anyone? anyone? okay.. 6:42 cmon jews

  • @bobthepirate911 i read this right as it came along. At first i was like wtf? to your comment but then i was like OOOOHHH

  • Other then the screw up with the clarinet at 5:27 and the holding of the notes in 7:32 the piece was OUTSTANDING!! Well DOne! :)

  • @172839nathan excuse me.. 5:26

  • @172839nathan Maybe there was an echo in where this recording was taking place?.... you don't know if that was a mistake or what.... Just pointing out % Error in that comment

  • What are the lyrics to the singing part, if anyone knows?

  • @Pabacii

I am an angel of light

    I have soared from above

    I am cloth'd with mother's love

I have come, I have come

    To protect my chosen band

And lead them to the promise land

  • i was part of the band that played this piece at the Wisconsin state band, it was awesome

  • Allan McMurray did this with the Wisconsin All-State Band a few nights ago. It was wonderful. Great piece!

  • I am not saying the Cadets are bad, but this version is soooo much cooler :)

  • AHHHHHH! PLAY TOGETHER! 7:31

I love this song, but I cannot stand this recording because of that one moment.

  • lhs the gates 2011 cba state hughes stadium

  • I loved this piece before the cadets played it crazy enough my band also played it

    Loveland highs the gates

  • Take off the 0 from the most liked views...how ironic.

  • We played this piece in 2009 and Ticheli conducted it. So amazing! I played bass trombone and got to do that cool gliss at the end!

  • @solarsonic928 what school do you go to and what instrument do you play?

  • sounds like the bass trombone didn't a Gb trigger for the gliss at the end :/ meh. the rest was amazing though!

  • i think i jizzed my pants at 11:44

  • Ahh I loved playing this my Sophomore year in High School :) Freshman year was Machu Picchu, Sophomore was this, and this year it's hopefully "Ride" :D Love this song x]

  • Frank Ticheli = Amazing.

  • Also, the bassoon solo is done very beautifully.

  • At the second goaround of what's played at measure 23, the dark summonings if you will, is completely off between the upper woodwinds and the brass. The percussion is the only thing which is on. Also, the trombone growls are out of the boundaries of the crescendo.

I like how you can hear the contrabass clarinet, Bflat too. I play the contrabassoon, contrabass/contra-alto clarinets, bass clarinet, bassoon, and clarinet.

I'm in a college wind ensemble in which we are playing this.

  • I love this piece, however I strongly dislike Frank Ticheli, my band's wind ensemble had him do a tech-session with us at U.S.C., and I was playing timpani. Now I was used to the timpani at my high school, with their specific note ranges and pedals, U.S.C.'s timpani were professional grade, with spring loaded pedals and different note ranges. As I frantically tried to familiarize myself with these timpani, Ticheli called me out telling me that he was waiting on me, cut me some slack jerk!

  • @dperin2011 damned instructors and ignorance to percussionists. I feel your pain :'(

  • @dperin2011 Composers can be like that. I feel your pain. Timpani can be ridiculous.

  • it feels like the evil takes over in this song towards the middle

  • I'm 13, I played this at Band Camp, most amazing song I've ever played.

  • @AndrewMSeward You talking about Blue Lake? And yes, I totally agree:)

  • ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh my friend totally played this senior year, and wanted me to sing and i didn't and i wish i had...

  • Guyer :)

  • I'm playing this and Asphalt Cocktail (John Mackey) for my Marching band show. So fun, and such opposite songs. Great piece though.

  • @TSAX997 What band are you?

  • @LockePhilote Class A in ISMAA. FHS all the way. :D oh and the song too.

  • @TSAX997 we played asphalt cocktail in our show last year, and this song this year.

  • SOMEONE JUST COUGHED AT 9:58

  • thumbs up if you loved this peice before, during and after The Cadets played it :)

  • thumbs up if you loved the piece before The Cadets played it

  • @Tehdrumr4life14 Wind Symphony hipster.
