IF anyone really believes it was banned, it wasn't. Coca Cola signed on, and Square Enix can get away with damn near anything simply from their commercial success. Its just the fact that your more likely to look at "Banned whatever" than you are "just whatever it is". That being said, this commercial was a big hit back in the day but as far as I know it could not be aired in the states.

Apparently it could've been banned because it was also advertising a video game...but who's to say that other Coke commercials I've seen SHOULDN'T be banned for secondary advertising unrelated to Coke? This was an awesome commercial, and didn't deserve to be banned!

I have to admit, this is one of Square's worse promotion ideas. Delightfully weird, but it does not make me want to buy Coke or FF9.

Banned? The soundtrack was composed by Nobuo Uematsu and Coca-Cola used to have the license to use this characters. I don't think it was banned.

I don't think it was. It's not offensive in any way, so the only reason I could see it being banned was because of Square objecting to the use of their characters - and at the time, Coca-Cola DID have the license to use Final Fantasy characters (they even gave out little FFIX figurines with bottles of Coke at the game's launch).
