I was at railfair 1999 in Sacramento, California and also at Rail fest 2009 in Owosso, Michigan. I used to go to the California state RR museum in Sacramento (where this vid was filmed) all the time when I lived in California.
Of course! They'd never STOP the tradition. Its just a question of when. I don't know that. When ever the new parts of the museum( Sacramento locomotive works) are finished, then they'll raise funds for the next Railfair.
Lucky Bum, wasn't she the one who stared as the GENERAL on the Great Locomotive Chase with Fess Parker? I thought she was, but PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong! I'd so love to see her, you were very lucky!
Actually I live very Close to her shes a buety,And your correct and inccorct about"The Great Locomotive Chase"She did star in the movie but she was"The Texas"not the General.
Oh I gotcha, well then who played the General out of curiosity? I don't believe it was the original General but I could be wrong again too. Hey at least I was halfway right! :) You live close, lucky, I bet you've been to the Nevada Northern too huh? It's my favorite and I have good friends there. Man now that we talk about the movie I have a craving to watch it again!!! It's a good craving so thanks! I'd give anything to see Inyo, but that probably won't happen for a long time.
lol you should see her up close and perssonal with her littelry take your breath away,And when shes in steam her ghostly wail of a whislt can littelry send shivers down your spin and a vibration in your chst trust me it can
I know what you mean, not only can it take your breath away I'm sure but also your hearing! :) That happened for a few seconds with me but that was my fault I was too close. I so am going to have to look up youtube vids on Inyo, thanks again and don't worry I trust you on this I trust you! :) :P
*gasp* why you double lucky bum!!! Man I would love to have a crack at her throttle! I got to blow the whistle on CP #1293 in Ohio once but that was as close as I got to actually running it persay. If you do get to run her again, post it on youtube, I would love to see it!
Relax it was n the fourth of july and i made Freinds with her "Offcial"Driver and asssnt,Not to mention i regetierd for the NSRM a year ago so i got to do a few things the public couldnt, but she was stationary and didnt move they were shutten her down because they werent runnin her on that day but he allowed me to open the throttle a little bit and blow the whistle,I gave the whislt a short blast, second i sawe the huge jets of steam from the cylinder cocks,I wont never forget that day.:)
Lucky, in a way that's how I made friends with Mark Bassett, the executive director of the Nevada Northern Railway, I was writing a book and I wanted info on the #40 and things just went uphill from there. What a great opportunity you had being able to drive her before they put her away for a while. If you got vids of her send them on over!
Do they? Well then I'll just have to take your word on it and check them out, thanks Inuyasha4lif...uh out of curiosity what does your username mean? Is it one of the Anime names or is it Native American?
Okay I gotcha, mine is the symbol of my faith, I love our Lord and Savior so I figured this was as great way to tell about Him while browsing the Internet.
The B&O's William Mason Played "THE GENERAL" in disneys Great Loco Chase as she is the better of two and was on the winning side. Lol I'm just kidding. There both spectacular locomotives.
Yes the William Mason is still around! It is the oldest operating locomotive in the U.S. It just recently ran at B&O Railroad Museum Steam Days in October. Unfortinitly just like the Inyo it can not pull public due to lack of air brakes. Search B&O William Mason for vids
Holy crap, no one ever told me that THAT was the same locomotive they used in Wild Wild West! Yeah I'm so going to watch the Great Locomotive Chase and then watch Wild Wild West after that! I loved doing that with #13 from Back to the Future, I had no idea that she was the Hooterville Cannonball until recently. Thanks for telling me that, when do they plan on running William Mason again? Hopefully soon for another movie or just another excursion! I'd love to see the real General run too!
The real General hasn't run since 1963. I saw it in Gettysburg for the Centenniel. However, the B&O Train Museum in Baltimore still runs #25, the William Mason, once a year. Check my vids to see it!
Which is a shame, they should run it sometime I know that would bring in a lot of crowds, they should have the General, Inyo, William Mason, Eureka #4, and the Leviathan all together for a Civil War Show I think that would be a great crowd attractor! I'll definitely check those vids out Hendo56!
I remember watching something like this about railfair 91 and thinking how I want to go to the next one. little did I know that they already had the last railfair in 99. :( They were also going to have a huge railfair in my town in baltimore! I was so excited! It crushed me when It was cannceled due to the rufe coallapsing. I wish they had one again with like the 611 and 3985 and 844 and 4466 and 4449 and 700 and 2472 and all of them! that will never happen again!
yeah! I heard about that but I still am pissed because I hade this come to my town and it was canceled! :( But I'm glad It could happen again! :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!

Something similar might happen when the Museum of Railroad Technology opens in Sacramento.
It will be located in what use to be the old Southern Pacific rail yards and will be part of the CSRM.
Expect a big party for that one. :D
