I like how your'e using the pedal in this demo. It shows the exact type of effect I'd like. That is, what I'd think of as a spacey sound, not just plain echo. Ive never heard this on an actual "space echo" pedal demo though hah.
@theShowStopper321 Modulation Depth and Delay Time (left & right). They're labelled beneath the bottom knobs. It must be a space thing. I'm running it in front of the amp. Haven't tried it in a loop.
@stankler How does the AD9 sound in person? Does it cut out high frequencies on the dry tone? How dark are the delays? Are they crisp? Some one told me it kind of dulls the tone but I like the sound of it in demos but never had the chance to try it
Man, this demo makes me want to get one of these, a gorgeous Stratocaster (like yours, I'm loving the maple fretboard!), and blast out some Pink Floyd as loud as my 120w tube amp is willing to go! Awesome video! <:
dear bgman666, could u tell me what the difference is between tape echo and analog delay both made from wampler :p please give me some opinion when i wanna choose one of them :) thanQ very very much !
@xiaorongTW There's not much difference except for the modulation control. The Analog Echo does not have this. I can't speak for the circuit differences because I'm unsure, but feature wise you'd probably be better to go with the FTE as it seems many have and are more than satisfied.
Dont get me wrong, its a great delay, still my fav, just have to use it in different ways and not always used in certain applications. I REALLY wish they could have gone true analog on this, that would have been a whole lot better, but since the delay repeat itself is generated with the chip, that particular chip has some issues with being pushed by preamps or boosts.
The Faux Tape Echo pedal will experience some clipping if you use a pre amp pedal before it in a chain, and alot of Overdrives will do the same. This needs to be known before you buy. By its self, in a clean playing situation, its great.
No, clipping is when the signal is "clipped" by the chip. The signal through a preamp, or boost will actually sound like its being chopped, or broken up. Wampler has said that its inherent in that chip and that you cvan try placing your preamp after the pedal, or running your wampler through the effects loop of the amp if you have an amp that allows it. Running through the loop is common for delays and other signal modifiers, but has its draw backs in certain pedalborad configurations.
WHOA!!! That sounded like a MAJOR Brightening in tone when the pedal was engaged. (Not just the repeats) Is that normal with these? This sounds awesome, but will it drastically change my tone?
Whats the most transparent delay out there (With the mix at minimum) that gets along with overdrive?
@007Elvisofnazareth you might wanna look into Strymon dtape echo or theire brigadier analog sim pedal
they are great with OD and not only that, the possibilities are endless. i sold my carbon copy, skreddy echo, timefactor, cusack tap-a-delaly after this one.. its not an analogy delay but its amazing!
Wow, thanks for the kind words. :) I own the Eventide but not the Empress. The Eventide is a totally different beast in that it has two delays and a zillion other bells and whistles. It's tape delay emulation is very good but it has a little too much bottom end for some - something which I believe Eventide are addressing in a future update. But for an instant and GREAT tape delay emulator? Well, you've just got to consider this one.
I'll put them side by side a little after Christmas, guys. I'm having a break for a week or two to refresh my energies and ears. Take care and I'll see you in 2010.

I picked one of these up since then, It does change the tone, but very much like the original echoplex preamp does. A very cool pedal!

@Blaydrnnnr When you say clipping do you mean the repeats distort?

It's probably the buffer kicking in because of the cable length I'm running in the studio. It will give you a little zing though, yes. :)
