There's intercutting between Small Faces performing and the female on stage that doesn't seem to bleong together but is that audience of female fans a segment relating to The Small Faces?
The SF were one of the most influential bands of the 60`s and certainly the most underrated of them all. Their music lives on thanks to You Tube. Um dos melhores grupos dos anos 60 e que deixou mais influencia a todos os niveis. Rip Marriott and Lane.
gary moore is a piss up asshole who cant play live and as to use a backing tape . he nicked peter greens les paul he said he worte bules for you when in fact a german .band Jud's Gallery worte it . the song is called
nordrach
it is on youtube have a look . gary moore the biggest asshole in music .
I know that Lionel Bart says here that Steve was one of his best Dodgers, but in reality Steve only played the Artful Dodger a couple of times during his year or so run with the play. He played other boys, and I think even played Oliver at least once. However, when it came to the recording of the original soundtrack, Steve was the one chosen to sing the Dodger parts. Can't imagine why. ;)
NEVER WILL THERE BE ANOTHER BAND LIKE THESE GUYS THEY WAS AND IN MY BOOK STILL ARE THE ONLY REAL MOD BAND GOD BLESS THEM FOR THERE MUSIC MOD a way of life.....
Plant, Stewart, Burdon etc...all of Marriott's contemporaries in the 60's would privately admit Steve Marriott was the best R&B/Rock singer in the UK.
Steve's voice projection was like no other - the dude could really sing...and play. He was a true rocker.
''You know Steve Marriott was the first choice to be Black Sabbath's vocalist.I tried everything I could think of to get him to agree, but he had other plans. He was J. Page's first choice for LZ too.He tried as hard as I did. I had a conversation with Page once about that, about what might have been. No skin off Ozzy or R.Plant, both great in their ways, but Marriott was it.Greatest singer ever.Page and I agreed. We would have killed to have him.''
xJay: Great quote from Iommi-I had no idea he said that. Had SM went to LZ or BS, it would have been another evolution to what we now call 'Metal'. I can speculate wherever SM went, that band would not be as 'Dark' as both are known today. I think SM would have kept Page more humble on the blues (No blatant theft of songs - a legend like Willie Dixon taking you to court) and turned him on to R&B. With Iommi, he was at a crossroads w/Earth and JTull in late '68 - another direction w/out Geez?
If SM had went to LZ it would have been in 66 with Moon, Entwistle and Beck- a totally different band.I guess you're right, the band would not be as 'Dark' however when I think about Pie's Gilded Splinters I'm certain Steve's music could sound moody and dark if he wanted to,but I don't think he would have liked to sound like that for the most of the time.
With Iommi I really don't know,TBH I've never been a big BS's fan (or rather Ozzy's fan), lol probably with SM I would have liked them more :)
I was almost 15 when I first heard "What You Gonna Do About It?" and had heard nothing like it before (VERY SIXTIES SOUND), My friends and I all professed to be would-be mods (if we only had the money to buy the clothes) as we were still at school and times were hard then. I will never forget Stevie's voice and used to love the way he moved around the stage. Happy days.
That last part of the vid ' All you could smell was urine, girls literally pissing themselves with excitement'. Strewth, I never heard that before, talk about extreme girl fan reaction, thats a new one adds a whole new edge to the hysteria phenomenon that the great 60's groups generated.
Thanks for posting this very insightful doc on The Small Faces. Very underrated act who didn't really break through to North America. But that doesn't change my mind about their music. It's some of the most vital and exciting I've heard. Very sad to find out how badly they were taken by shady management. RIP Marriot and Lane.
Weller hasn't got a clue and he hides behind that ill deserved 'Modfather' title.
he has released a couple of good albums, granted, but has since disappeared so far up his own arse that hes even convinced himself that hes the saviour of Mod music. I remember the Style Council.
I remember the Style Council too, what of it? "Modfather" or no father, I personally do not care about public opinion. I live in a country where someone like Weller, much like the Small Faces and Creation are not at all remembered or even thought of. Maybe he suffers from too much exposure in England, but here in America, his music is not known to the public at large. To me Weller is a musician and songwriter, not a symbol for a movement that could never exsist here, because we're idiots.
Here's advise, why don't YOU try not be a wanker? If I hadn't gotten into the Jam/Council/Weller solo I would never have heard of the Small Faces, and would never have discovered the brilliance of them. Fuck the Beatles, these men deserved to be bigger in the US than them.
Killer-I've never before seen a documentary on them. Great rare footage, learned things I didn't know, and it's nice to see later kings of UK pop (Weller, Gallagher) to bow before them. The influence is *so* clear. They just don't show things like this in the US: God Bless Youtube!
For me personally this was the best band in the world ever and steve marriott one of the greatest white soul voices of all time. Rich in humour and high in energy, they had the look, the style and the songs that would influence many generations of musicians to come. It's all too beautiful...
Thanks for posting. I remember seeing this on Channel 4 back in 1995. I love the Small Faces - especially the talented Steve Marriott - a born leader and singer.
The best unknown band the world's ever known.

Plant worshipped Steve. And saw him many times and took careful notes. Stewart stole his band.

Marriot and Lane didn't emulate anyone they were themselves at a time when being a mod was real.
paul weller 'the modfather' dont be a cunt
