I've been looking for a Daniel Lanois tune that he sang in French from the Sessions At West 54th program years ago. Was that song ever released? I have it recorded on VHS, but have never been able to find it. He says the name of the song title in the run-in to the song, but please don't ask me to type it. I wouldn't know how. Thank you.
La femme câlisse son chum dehors parce qu'il est violent... il est violent à cause qu'il boit... il boit à cause qu'il a honte... honte de quoi? il le dit pas. S'il le disait, peut-être qu'il aurait encore sa femme.
This is from a great album called "Acadie". It might have been Lanois' first solo album. Brian Eno involved. It's a gorgeous recording - every song very interesting, lots of classic Eno sounds. Check it out!
Has anyone heard his new band Black Dub?! I got to see them perform in NYC a couple weeks back-- They are AMAZING!!! They have a could videos on Vevo up now. My favorite is "I Believe in You." SUCH a good song!
There is a music group in my country (Netherlands), which plays music in our dialect. That regional language is a language that is often linked to farmers, allowing them to build a name as a''farmer''band''. The band includes four men who play the following instruments: accordion, bass, drums, guitar. A few songs are based on your numbers (Daniel Lanois songs). Find it at: Boh Foi Toch - Beernd Van Kuperi-j (is the same as this song (Jolie Louise). Best Wishes ,
Thanks everybody for giving me a hint to the other video version. I remember as a child there was song by DL that I liked, but after going over youtube I couldn't find the one with him on the cabin porch. I couldn't remember the song, but i knew it contained french. When I viewed this version, it is one of my favourites, but i now like the other version as well. Thank again everyone
This is the first song I ever heard by Daniel Lanois and I was hooked all those years ago at the first few notes. I love that he sings in French and English in the same song. He renews my interest in learning French by choice.
I wish him a speedy recovery from his motorcycle accident.
I remember around 1990my wife and I sitting in our small living room in Northern Ontario with it 35 degrees below 0 outside watching the original video of this song and being very moved and totally captivated . It was on much music which was quite new at the time. I would love to see that old video but it is gone so it seems or not available on line. I felt then and still feel great pride knowing Lanois is French Canadian and is sought after by musicians the world over.
I tried google video but just got the stage version with the saxaphone not the original with accordian Great version Love it but I found the much music version with Lanois standing on cabin porch and in trees around. Found it on a german website with 123 video in the title but I cannot download it . I cannot put the web site in this note the system will not let me.
Omygoddess....Is there anything more powerful than to have been loved by a real man like in Daniel's song Jolie Louise? So incredible...I've decided to come back again in my next life-just to experience this kind of love! Thank you Daniel...I'll be singing it for days-at the very least.
Wow ... look at the band ... Darryl Jones, bass; David Sanborn, saxophone (whose TV show this was part of), Hiram Bullock, guitar (playing slide on a Dobro); Omar Hakim, drums; and looks to me like Paulinho da Costa, percussion.
I got a copy of the Daniel Lanois album Acadie, which this song is from, on a cassette tape while vacationing in the Yucatan peninsula. My hosts had a copy and wanted to know more about the artists because they loved the sound but couldn't decipher the lyrics.
Thats because the French Canadians known as Acadians were driven out by the English after the French and Indian war. These Acadians resettled in the Port of New Orleans and over time Acadian evolved into Cajun.
@oniforo Some of them came back to the maritimes and we still are around :P , we resettled all across N.A. realy, but yes most went south to New Orleans. This all happened in 1755.
@oniforo - ... yes... New Orleans and proving again French people can be cool anywhere! Probably the best culture in Canada. Or the best place here for ALL culture to happen = Montreal.
Thanks for this post. I don't speak French, but I really love this song. The original MTV type video is gone, but it is great to see him doing it live. Thank you, Grego
In prefacing another video of this song Lanois said, to paraphrase, that we all go into young love thinking it will make our lives perfect. Love doesn't conquer all, but when the union fails that doesn't mean that love has to go...
We're all naive when we're young but what love can do, if you try hard enough, is last and become stronger at which point it helps you endure the bad times.
Another so so beautiful version. Thank you for this. I keep coming back to the vids of Daniel you've posted. For so long I've loved this man. Should have thanked you before. He lifts me up.
DL he can speak french canadian (even quebecois and acadian style) don't worry, maybe not your version of french but he can be easily be understood trust me-:))
my lil ole heart actually jumped up and did a lil ole dance just now to see an abcforall in my sub box....I was JUST musing about when another might pop up, today, whilst listening to Daniel Lanois and moving possesions one house to another, across a walk--it is amazing, to me. I'd fav this, but i'm saving my forrunning fav for a mission: a Dad's efforts/request for a son, a mission with heart. THANKYOU,--this made my WEEK, maybe my whole MONTH:-)
