  • i see myself having a heart attack at every wheel slip

  • in your face ariel atom. Caterham> Ariel Atom

  • just watch that rev counter....

  • can these be legally driven in the us?

  • @rockandrollmetalhead There are track versions which are not legal, but the majority of them are quite legal. As pointed out in other comments, these are amazingly quick, particularly where high speed aerodynamics don't come into play (they're not at all streamlined). So, for street use or autocross, where the top speeds aren't that high, they're almost the ideal car. High speed - not so much. Google "Caterham" and check out their Web site.

  • @cycleguy55 thanks for the info

  • spinning wheels in every gear it seems. one hell of a car

  • if you ask me, the footage was sped up.

  • @MillionairJoe you would think, but first look up the specs and more videos about the rst v8. then see if you still think so. this car is scary fast. the base rst v8 is a little 2 liter monster making 380hp and the car weights around 1100lbs. and there is a 500hp supercharged version which is just mental.!

  • @danelio im not doubting the cars abillities, but that loooks seriously fast!

  • @MillionairJoe yea i see why you say that, but watch the rpm gauge, see it bouncing around, look at all the correcting the driver is doing, he's fighting that car, trying to get the best lap, spinning the tires in every gear. its really not sped up. its just the size of the car and the bouncy and open track that make it seem that way. its basically a motorcycle with a v8 and 4 wheels. it really is that fast. plus who even takes the time to speed up their vids in real motorsport racing.

  • @danelio ok :D

  • @MillionairJoe If you don't know much about Caterham, then you'll be amazed.

  • this mans passenger seat is reserved for his testicles

  • @peasinacan no they'll be on the road behind the driver

  • Is this a production car or production kit? This Hayabusa V8 is dirty. :D

  • Comment removed

  • From 0-60mph in 3 seconds and a topspeed of 241km/h is not that impressive for a 400hp V8 with about 500kg. The R500 is even better than that. Driveability came first I guess and that's why the performance was limited by the gear ratio. Just an assumption. :(

  • I love the sound of the powertech V8 engine, made from two Hayabusa engines. ;)

  • I would prefer less torque and more rpms

  • Which chassis is this? I see fittings in place for LHD or RHD on this and the Levante.

  • that thing is quick.. alot of counter steering going on there.. thing seems like a monster

  • god damn that thing is fast

  • Love so much how it slides...

  • Exclusive...

  • nice video, i like the engine sound

if you put th camera in a lower position, the sound of the wind and the line of the windscreen dont disturb

  • what v8 is it ? chevy? mustang (out of the mg ztt ) and before people start chatting crap, yes they did drop a mustang engine in the mg ztt

  • @Willz136 It's a 2.0L V8 engine, not sure who supplied the parts (blocks etc) but it was built and tuned by RST (Russel Savoy Tuning) who are based in Hertfordshire. Russel built the car with Chris Wheeler (7 Workshop) and after initial testing of the engine it was then bored to 2.4L. There was talk of Caterham producing this car but was only talk and this car is now built by another company who use the 2.4 variant of the engine with a supercharger, search Caterham Levante for more info.

  • That looks... FUN AS FUCK.

  • 12 people drive Hyundai Accents

  • @Zippy306 +1 drives a prius ha

  • @Zippy306 hehe I have one too... but want this beast on vid :P

  • v8 caterham is limited to 149 mph...can u believe that ???

  • great odins raven!!

  • hm very sick, very fast, looks like fun :D but u don't need a v8 with this weight ^^ v6 is just enough xD

  • In australia we have the Elfin, bout the same size as a caterham, but a 5.7 ltr V8

  • Looks like great fun!

  • bit more thought on camera position and we could enjoy it much more..

  • Wow that was maad :D

The only thing missing is more downforce.

But I would go even further, a light engine should be from the Hayabusa, two of these @ 2.8 L fused together would make like 400 bhp, double superchargers would be sweet and soft road tires + adjustable spoilers front & rear for extreme downforce.

Seriously no normal & sane road car can beat that :)

  • @TheGravitybender

the engine you're talking about is the h1v8 and it can be tuned to 500 with no forced induction. Anything more than that will be too much for the chassis to handle (although the caterham levante has a bit over 500hp). As for downforce, I think it would be a pain to get it right on such a bodyshape. You could try than on the new sp 300r though, it would be mental

  • @shittywilly I know what i would've done and a perfected design would've been neccessary for more aerodynamics.

As for the chassis, some re-inforcements would be required, the engine should be as light as possible and the weight evenly.

Carbonfiber is a good way to keep the weight down and i have some more ideas regarding that.

Think i need to go to the drawing board, gotta be creative lol :P

    Is that V8 light btw?

  • @TheGravitybender

91 kg for the 400 hp one, that's just as much as an f1 engine

  • @shittywilly wow sweet :D there should be another one which is just as mental as the caterham though... Ariel Atom if you've heard about that one, spanish cage on wheels and light with V8 :D

    Look it up!

  • @TheGravitybender I know man , i live in the UK , it's full of caterhams and atoms here ^^

Also a 1.3 200 hp hayabusa engined radical sr3 is 4+ seconds faster than an enzo on an ~1:20 minutes track as tested by evo magazine. Not to mention the radical sr8 that smashed the nurburgring record , also powered by a 400hp h1v8 engine. Actually i believe that atm most of the uk track records are held by sr8s.

  • Good driving

  • Too much HP for that little car. :)

  • Very messy.

  • Four wheel drift!!

  • I find myself trying to duck down to look under it..lol

  • @MrEricDays Funny, me too!

  • f.cking windshield

  • This is what Caterhams should be made with, a real engine.

  • good shit!

  • Roooaarr....& and rooooarrrr......vrummm vrruumm! great stuff! yeah mate try to do another video please...and position camera better...im sure you can do that!....congrats! ...I want that one!

  • you fucking own that track

  • truly amazing

  • sugaaaaaaaaaaay! hayaaaaaaaaayyyye! lol incroyable

  • Truely amazing drive.

  • Damn.

  • out of control! yet seems pretty controllable with the throttle... shame you can't see the horizon in the video and thus the sense of movement is lost as well as inducing sickness.

  • fuck me!! plz let me be with you next time

  • looks quite nasty, sounds brutal, and you can just thrash it about a track all day long. What more could you ever ask for?

  • Caterham don't make a V8, thats why I don't have one. (If they did I'd buy one now). Loverly cars but please fit a real engine.

  • @varflane A company Called RS Performance builds the Caterham V8. Its basically a 2.4l formula 1 engine, but limited to 10,000 revs.

  • @magnum9987

No, it's not, there's no similarity between 2.4 V8 from F1 and this engine looking form technology aspect.

  • @2jzgtejza80 cast aluminium alloy block 90 degree V8. I'm going to guess it has 4 valves per cylender and run one petrolium based fuel, just like an F1 engine. You are correct that it isn't an F1 engine, they just don't make enough power at 10,000rpm. But F1 engine are so restricted that they share alot of technical similarities with road car engines.

  • @Vezm99

2.4L V8 from RS Perf. have more similarity with motorbike engines like Kawasaki 1200 ZZR. Actually if you looking, 2.4 liter is dual 1200cc engine bike in one block, same like H1 2.6, 2.8 i 3.0 V8 from Hartley. Technology from bike engines.

Formula 1 engines have nothing similarity with this or even with road cars. Only Ferrari and Mercedes developing own technology to road cars. And now Toyota ( LF-A) and Honda (HSV -010 GT) also.

  • @2jzgtejza80 You seem to be talking about specifications rather than the technology used in the engines development. What is it that you think make Formula One engines so technologically different from other engines. I'm not saying the Hartley engines are the same or even similar to a formula one engine but the technology used is not all that different. When Honda was making formula one engines they used their experience gained from making motorbike engines. As F1 engines have similar specs.

  • @Vezm99

You are right, but earlier technology from F1 are nothing spectacular a high reving engine max 11,000 -12,000 rpm. Technology from 1986 to 1994 even to 2000 th it is a lot different. From Turbo era to NA era. F1 engines using materials what NASA using and have different valvetrain, type of EFI, MEP, even a composites are difficult. I would say it's space - race technology. Similarity between motorbike, F1 engines, and Honda V-TEC engines, high rev low torque engines for REAL racing.

  • @2jzgtejza80 "5.14 Materials and construction – General:

5.14.1 Unless explicitly permitted for a specific engine component, the following materials may not be used anywhere on the engine:

    a) Magnesium based alloys

    b) Metal Matrix Composites (MMC's)

    c) Intermetallic materials

    d) Alloys containing more than 5% by weight of Beryllium, Iridium or Rhenium. "

That's from FIA F1 regulations on engine materials. I can't fit anywhere near all of it in here but it carries on in more detail.

  • @Vezm99

They don't use magnesium based alloy, they using aluminum base alloys with some % of magnesium and titanium, (copper also). MMC is very good for cast iron engines from gray iron or vermicular iron. Intermetallic materials are good for higher thermostability. Beryllium is not good for health. Iridium and Rhenium are too expensive and too rare, it's also known as oligo-elements.

    FIA's restrictions are really strange.

  • @2jzgtejza80 I'm not sure how the restrictions are strange. They make a lot of sense to me, but hey. Essentially all FIA regulations are in place for three things, increase safety, decrease cost, restrict performance. Although arguably restricting performance is affecting both the others.

Anyway I think we've stayed far enough off the topic of this vid :D nice chatting with you.

  • @Vezm99

    Probably, from 1.5 V6 and V12 turbo from 700-1500bhp engines to now today max 740bhp V8', what's next...1.5 4 cyls 500bhp turbo???

We are not actually off topic, it's all about cars and engines :D

  • @2jzgtejza80 Ken block has a 2.0l Duratec I4 producing 850 HP. Tuned it down to 650 for gymkhana use. 660 Ft/LB of torque too. I'm sure he could get similar numbers with the 1.6l, just would make the car near impossible to drive in the manner that he wants.

  • See, now why can't they sell the Caterham with this, or do they? I've always wanted a Caterham with a proper engine, not some 4-banger.

  • Seems like a right animal, awesome

  • nice car, nice driving but the camera was placed really really bad! the window frame goes right in the horizon! it feels like you see nothing!

  • perfect drift car

  • That car looks like a handful.. Thumbs up!

  • everything a seven is not supposed to be, looks to handle like a crock of sh*t, a hoot though!

  • @reebmit I don't think its the car so much the driver. He didn't seem to be very experienced with the car. It doesn't have stability control, traction control, or ABS for that matter. It can be quite a handful for someone who is not experienced or simply not a good driver.

  • this is VIOLENCE

  • That thing just felt like it was on the bleeding edge the whole time, monster of a car.

  • WOW

  • jesus christ, id loose that on the first corner its a beast!

  • nice ride!

    skilled driver

  • @Dangertje indeed! kwam toevallig je naam hier tegen, what are the odds :p

  • Double-handed opposite lock!!! Brown pants.....

  • お~~~

  • i should think that it is VERY difficult to control on the limit, especialy on that chopped up surface, i happen to know that even a standard roadsport can bite u in the arse if u take liberties with it, so that thing must be a monster, especialy in the wet. what is the v8, it didnt sound like the rover unit that is fitted to the westfield seight.

  • v8? isnt a light weight cosworth engine reving to 9200rpm not good enough? the aussies have a similar concept clubman called Elfin with a Ls2 v8 later they brought out a 2L turbo and it was faster lol.

  • @hardendafukup RST V8 is a light weight engine made by combining 2 Hayabussa top ends on a common crank case. It almost certainly weighs less than a 2.0L turbo engine, and it makes north of 350hp.

  • Insane! but in a very good way!!!

  • Some say too much is never enough.... I agree. Well done.

  • that was fun!

  • when the road is coming at you so quickly you know the car is fast..Lovely sound too..

  • I wouldn't want to drive anything on a surface as screwed as that, let alone that beast.

    You got some mad skills.

  • Its probably easier to drive a bomb than that beast!, but probably not as much fun. Top little car.

  • Hmm, the black windscreen liner is a bit in middle of cam view... I feel like I see nothing

  • that looks like FUN man!

  • HOLY S-! That's insane!!! Just when you thought the 7 couldn't get any faster, they pull THIS monster out of their bums! o_O I'd love to see the production model's performance specs after a "proper" testing session. lol

  • Terrible camera placement, amazing drive.

  • that driver is awsome. well done mate

  • First, this guy driving has got skills.

Second, the car is friggin ridiculous.

  • Respect to that driver - I'd shit my pants ^^

  • i worked 4 caterham 7 4 work experencie and went round in the r500 which won top gear car of the year and let me tell u that was fun and fast but if u where 2 put a v8 in it it would be the best car ever bulit and i reckon would be top of the top gear leader board so in other words put the v8 in the dam car :)

  • you can't help but respect these cars!

  • I need one!

  • I think I just pissed myself?!?!

  • that looks pretty...scary :O

  • Colin Champman is crying tears of joy for this little gem. A perfect implementation of his philosophy: high power and low weight.

  • If only we could see through the rim on the outside of the windscreen

  • oh yes!

  • OMFG!

  • Jeeeeeez, Lock + Load

  • holy crap....i have to go clean myself

  • I'm getting one. Today.

  • MAAAAAD!

    Love it!

  • they've made v8's with busas, but what about f20c's?

  • That is one gnarly motor!!!!!!

  • omg :| i wish i was in that car with him wen he did that haha

  • DAMN. that thing is freakin brutal..

  • look like funny!!

  • brisk:D im sure dfs sell heavier beds!

  • thats brutal your a hooligan

  • PURE DRIVE !!!

  • i want this car!!

  • Man... I would have had so much fun.

You would have to roll that car off the track, cause I'll run the gas tank empty...

  • Nice driving pal. Hats off. I sure as heck couldnt do that.

  • You can tell this things a hand full... If a 250 HP motor is quick in the Caterham than a V8 has got to be an absolute rocket! I love Caterhams so much! ^_^ Nice driving

  • damn that driver is a beast.

  • Hats off to the driver!

  • i wouldnt do the co-driver in this car

  • absolutely evil car

    and brave drivin'

  • Nicely driven

  • Ruthless vehicle.

  • Video clearly sped up after about 40 secs.

  • manic...soooo quick...and the comments make me laugh..1 km is 0.625 miles,so you do the maths..and if any one wants advice...post a note and i will answer..he was doing way over 100 mph in a very short space..

  • Nutty car and good driver

  • that thing is insane, those cars are quick enough with little 4 cylinders, but with a v8. . . :O

  • your all a bunch of dicks, you wana get on mario cart!

  • LOL @ no traction

  • How about making a 2. ed. video with a lower camera position. The top of the windscreen is cutting the picture, completly obstructing the view ahead.

  • caterham have "hell yeah!!" handling xDD

  • Needs quite a bit of suspension sorting.

  • yeah, like longer A-arms and more downforce, other than that, there is an extreme amount of HP for a tiny vehicles.

  • :O agressive style

  • SHIT! thank fuck it wasnt hot that day or that thing would of striped the tarmac!

11/10 all day long... mad shit right there

  • that thing looks like it would be quite a handful to drive. a glorious handful it would be though.

  • urr no not quite this car doesnt need a 2 day driving coarse. its the new lavane witch needs that dumn ass

  • i like stuff do u guys like stuff? or um things do u guys like things?

  • I'd love to take that for a drive... They wouldn't let the owners take delivery without a 2-day course on how to drive the damn thing!

  • I am quite fond of doing things with stuff.

  • me2 my mum lets me drive her car she has a suzuki terios its pretty fast it does 100km/h in 4th gear wat kinda stuff or things do you like? i like chocolate starfish

  • you know 100km/h is only about 3mph over 60 right? Almost all american cars do 60mph in 3rd gear... (if it's a six speed.)

  • no its like 200mph ant it? i like stuff

  • No km/h is a little more than half of mph. I like stuff too, that's how I know this.

  • I hit 60 mph in 2nd... and it's a 5 speed. :P

(no, i'm not bullshitting. A WRX hits 65 or so near redline in second gear)

  • my old rx7 will hit 60 in second gear if i take it past the redline 8)

  • That's my point. He's not special. 100km/h in 4th is total bullshit.

  • lol yeah it would have to have crazy short gears

  • Comment removed

  • its a hyundai.. sante fe..

  • Hyundai... what a joke!

  • do you have a chocolate starfish i could do things with?

  • mad car bad cam

  • great car but the sound is terrible!

  • In fact it looks so quick that you need either;

A paddle operated sequential gearbox or,

Another arm to change gear with.

  • I'm just desperate for someone to change the camera position so the top of the windscreen doesn't completely obscure all approaching obstacles.

Great sound though and it looks fecking quick...

  • well if that true im sorry ive got a thing with americans puting silly engines in my british heritage... ;)

  • that engine is what makes this car a gift from god

  • It's two yamaha motorbike engines welded together. I'm pretty sure RS Performance are a British company, nothing to do with America...

  • suzuki

  • dream machine

  • Tomio 145, That isn't a massive v8, its 2 V4 bike race engines spliced together via a custom crank, weighs less than the standard Duratec and can be tuned to >500bhp. Was running at 340bhp in that car, and revs to 14k!

  • it revs to 10k

  • u no how bad ass that is u could kick it in 5th gear and spin tires just by rolling into the throttle

  • omg what he done what the point in putin a massive v8 in an ultralight car, ruined it tut tut

  • as KenYaptrick was saying, its not a massive V8, its two V4 racing bike engines put together. Very light weight and high revving. Caterham make these and you can buy them assembled or in kit form.

  • Good work!
