The 50 mm is whats called a "prime lens". This is categorically incapable of changing its zoom. It is stuck there. You are going to have to foot zoom (walk around) to adjust. Hope that helps.

@000MP123 yes you can just slow mo in cs5. Shoot in 60 FPS and put it into a 24 fps project and reduce the speed, great quality.

Was this a cheapish lens?! Im not trying to say it looks bad its just that I have a 50mm which cost under £80 and its great.Im selling my 400D and getting the 550D and hoping the lens will still be usefull. Thanks!

Your 50mm F1.8II will fit no problem on the 550D as i have the 500D :)
