The point is: musical classicism hasn`t been invented in sense of terminology until- it was over ;)
So, I don`t know why this piece should be more classical, and less romantic in compairason with early Schubert sonatas, for example. Of course, Beethoven owns so much to Mozart. And Appassionata is for people that knows something his greatest sonata. Moonlight and Pathetique are great, but Apassionata has done more for me.
This is your first Mozart I'm listening to. I'm working on 23th concerto la majour (A Major) I would love to hear you playing it, is it in your schedule? Since you are my favorite your ideas are very important to me.
Yes, the beginning is Mozart in a somber mood, and foreshadowing the music of the future... rather like the Dissonances Quartet. Brava, Valentina, you do him justice.
Valentina, listening to this superb video, modeled on the best way, I thought you're among the few pianist with most pronounced sense of beauty of tone. I don't want to compare you with other major artists and participate in useless disputes, which is bigger, but for my taste, for example, Richter, Martha Argerich have too powerful forte, which inhibits for me the beauty of music itself. And your touché, your dynamics are perfect for my taste.
I absolutely adore your interpretation of this piece! I did this last fall for my piano jury and I absolutely enjoyed every minute of this piece! You should tackle some Debussy and Ravel. I'd love to hear your interpretations of J'eux Deau and Reflets Dans L'eau from Images Book 1. =) Happy Playing!
@ValentinaLisitsa: What other concert pianist shares your admiration of Bosie's? I've never seen anybody else insist as much as you do on playing on Bosies. I totally understand why you adore them.. because I do too. Of all the pianos I've tried playing, the Bosie 280 was my favorite. That's my dream piano (or the imperial of course!).
@hungryfordreams use vidtomp3 searh on google and take the first searh result, put the url from this video in the download field, and you are good to go :)
I associate this fantasy as my gateway to other composers. When first started listening to classical music it was exclusively Mozart sole piano and concertos. I had read about this fantasy and wanted to find it. I could only find it in a set of other works by Debussy (Childrens Corner), Chopin (2 mind altering nocturnes) and a Beethoven sonata (Op. 2, No. 2). I was totally blown away.
Ms Lisitsa, thank you for sharing! You are such a humble person, considering that you are one of the most talented persons alive today! Beautiful . Do you have any more DVDs planned for the future? I think I have played a hole in the 3 that I have.
Thank you so much for sharing with us a wonderful performance of this (in my opinion) quite unknown and underrated piece, in which Mozart seems to points far beyond from the 'classical' style for which he's mostly known.

@matiquielma Yes, exactly. The hall had a Steinway of unknown quality . I ahd to try this piano before I commit to recording on it. There is no better way to try it than to perform on it on stage. i am pretty happy with it.

fantastic playing! and the close ups on your hands are so visually stunning and surreal! kudos to you and your camera technician for this recording :)
So great overall....but your lead into and the explosiveness of emotion in minute 8.27 of this performance...It is where you and Mozart --at least for me-- are pure magic. Such powerful emotion. The performance is very moving.
I can't believe my eyes and ears! A Mozat piece! =)
Beautiful!! And yes this fantasia is very haunting. My favorite Mozart pieces are the ones in minor, and it's such a shame he didn't compose more on that key =)
You played it beautifully, I'm sure you're probably tired of hearing it, but you are a very tallented pianist, one of the best; and definitely my favorite ♥
I really could watch your hands moving in the piano all day long. You play with such grace =)
•Yes this fantasia shows the yen-yang of Mozart's emotional expression . It got my attention at an early age. Its a good warm up piece. You did very well . Bravo. If you don't mind my saying so ,you can stretch the contrasts even greater if you like. This is Wolfgang pushing the limits for his time, more charm and more stress.

Just think of what Mozart would've experienced when hearing his work on this kind of instrument. He had to live with pianofortes and harpsichords and their limitations. Purists want to hear those limitations from way back to be preserved, I however more than welcome your presentday dynamics and pianistic mastery. You've got the future.

Valentina, have you ever, or do you ever plan on doing a concert in the Pittsburgh, PA area? I absolutely love watching and listening to your videos. Such a great way to relax or even amp up!

@tinypeanuts I am dreaming of it since I played with Pittsburgh Symphony last year ( on a short notice substitute , so you might have not known about it ). The best orchestra - and maestro , in the world!
I am hoping for next season :-)
