@eastcoastamish Sounds like the bassist just hits a pretty high note on his 4 string bass (the range overlaps with the low end of guitar range). I see how you could mistake it for some other form of wizardry, but back in these days they were just 2 guitars, a bass, and drums, nothing else really got in the way.

Is this song not a good representation of them? I tried a couple others that were slightly better but to further up on my comment below this to me is just poor. Like 2 out of 5 stars honest review from a huge music, indie, folk, pop, rock, alternative, EVERYTHING fan. With great bands like Mumford and Sons finally getting mainstream again, I pause with confusion at why this band is adored so much. I don't like Muse very much, but I understand why they got big. This I don't get.

@ronrutherford I'm a big fan of bands like The Strokes, Kasabian, Arctic Monkeys, etc. as well as groups from many other genres and I didn't like Kings of Leon when my cousin gave me their album Because of the Times last summer but when I started listening to it more and more it grew on me. Though I did like Sex on Fire and Use Somebody before that. That being said I think they are one of those bands that you need to let grow on you. I'm really into them now. At least you tried. Try some more?

I came to several KoL videos to give them a shot. I must say, I'm not even remotely impressed and I'm not trying to hate.  I'm actually quite shocked they aren't better after knowing some people with very good taste getting into them. To me they come across as mediocre popish indie. Vocals seem to lack powerful emotion, the lyrics leave something to be desired, and the music itself isn't technical nor catchy. I truly don't get it. I guess I'm just venting, it's all subjective, but still...

@Jordo1900 because they went on tour with U2 and the guitarist got all envious of the edges rig and decided, that from that point onwards all their songs would be based around heavily delayed and reverbed guitar, regardless of the quality of the song.
