  • I sadly do belive in this police brutality and i wish i didnt this is terrible how evil can we get.......... why do we kill people????????? i wish someone could tell me but i guess no one can.

  • Is there any place this poem can be found? I absolutely adore it and I wish I could have it for my collection.

  • CHEE Hawaii!!!

  • im sorry, but this gun makes me feel manly

  • @themoon322 thats really what its all about...the power && authority...

  • what is this about? :O I don't get it. it was posted on my facebook, but it looks interesting! This is a tv show? whose sean bell?

  • @spt188 from what I've seen in other shows Sean Bell and two others were shot 50 times between them by police, on the night of his bachelor party, and they were unarmed. The why is unclear, cops thought someone had a gun but the police reasoning has been very heavily criticized. The police officers were later acquitted. :(

  • @spt188 shawn bell was the man in new york who got killed by the police the day before he was sappose to get married.he was unarmed but was shot multiple times and nothing happened to the police who killed him

  • no freely chance to use my voice box

    to protest the 50 shots

    aimed toward my chest!!

    R.I.P Sean Bell

  • what did the 2006 providence team do that was so amazing?

  • the sad part is how true this is..,

  • DAMN DAT SO DEEP

  • truly inspirational...

  • This poem was outstanding. These kids truly got free on that stage.

  • if you would like to see the whole conversation, just let me know. i love it when people talk about things they know nothing about.

  • lestmbly lestmbly Re: go ahead critique it Re: go ahead critique it You asked me to critique the poem you sent to me. Well here it goes.

Although it is very descriptive and verbally graphic. It has no redeeming value and contributes nothing to understanding and uplifting of the human condition. A poem about teenage RAPE of a black female by someone outside of her race? One word this is "GARBAGE". At the very, very least this is nothing more then pornography

  • im sure if the person who was taping it wasnt in the aduience then it would not have sounded the way it did. of course they sound loud hes right beside them.....

  • this team is so dope, no doubt about it. i came here to listen to poetry but i got an entire drama going back and reading the comments. what i find hilarious is that lestmbly is trying to school the goddess because she's so much older and wiser but still has the audacity to laugh at a name. in web lingo at that! it goes to show how completly blocked off a lot of our aging society is. but there is a reason why we are the future and they are the past. keep it going nubiangoddess!

    i'm out!

  • So what does pecarious mean? I thought that wasn't a word.

  • ummm.......what are you talking about? let me say it another way, do you even know what your talking about. Lestmbly is not younger than me.........

  • and yet you had nothing to say about the poem i sent you. only thing you had to say about was something you mispelled.....interesting.

  • lol right countrol yourself when you go to concerts too. i hope everyone remembers that next time lil wayne(or whoever you listen to) gets on stage and performs

    lmao

  • Haha. Actually, in poetry slams, this is self-control and discipline. It's almost disrespectful not supporting the poet 100% when they're on stage. It's rude to stay quiet during an entire poem (especially in a poem like this).

  • Comment removed

  • Haha. You're just not used to this culture and I totally understand that. However, you gotta keep in mind that the camera recording this is in the audience, therefore, it picks up the audience noises more. At a slam, you will be able to hear all/most of it.

However, if you want a soft, mellow, quiet place to hear poetry, you should try poetry readings and not slams.

  • you must not be too big on poetry, thats ok, not everyone can understand

  • who are you to judge on which poetry is more intense? your not god. and this is a different age and time this is 2009 not 1949 or 59 69 or 79. Just like the earth changes everyday, pepople must also learn to make adjustments to the life and world around them. And thats one of the biggests problems today. We live in a new society but with an old mentality.

  • Comment removed

  • and yet you still cant justify or judge who's poetry is more intense or better. Poetry hits each person a different way. May Angelo and Nikki may not hit me as hard as some of the younger poets because i can relate to my own generation alot better. So please try and disqualify that statement.....ill wait. lol

  • Comment removed

  • So again we go back to the new society old mentality issue, i guess you can't teach an old dog new tricks now can you?

  • and yet the thing i find very funny is that your only 7 years older than me.....???????

  • I don't understand what the issues is about the audience being "rude" . But as a poet I would like to say that although I have a fire burning in me, is that I feed off of the energy of my Audience. No I don't write for hoots a hollering. Yes I do write for myself and i hope that those listening to me someone is reached...but I feed off of the energy of my Audience, If they feel the need to applaud in the middle of a verse then do so...

  • what you have to understand is these kids are young & on fire! maybe back in the day silence was a sign of respect but in this day & age these kids are surrounded by adults & media trying to shut them up. So it is only fitting that they support each other in their own way, in their own style. How do you critique love? Because that's what the audience was showing these poets

  • these group is amazing. i saw them last night. i wish i could of recorded it.

  • the sickest team!!! ever philly ripped it thru the whole BNV season i love this show thank u Russ.

  • "We're gonna go in...we're gonna get free."

  • They were the "technicality team", the only reason they were there was because chicago went over three seconds, and because they were so into the competition they couldn't handle losing...I'm glad they quick because they really needed to focus more on the poetry and not the competition...They still did great though...

  • Couldn't hear what they were saying at the beginning - what r they doing? Disqualifying themselves why? I missed something...

  • I LUV U JOSH YOUR GREAT

  • i wish i knew about things like this when i was in high school seriously. I look at these kids and it makes me think what am i doing with my life (granted i am only 20 lol). I've always wanted to perform but i am quite shy when it comes to stages, hell i cant perform in front of a vcr. but philly team is HOT FIRE!! yes i damn near memorized alysia's "that girl"

  • yall betta GO IN!

    DVoo

    chi

  • "justice is a black women left at the alter"

    enough said

  • this was seriously one of the greatest BNV's EVER! it was my last one as a team member, but it was really emotional in these finals. great respect due to the philly team and EVERY team in the finals! and especially everyone on stage at then end!! BNV AIN'T NUTTIN TO FUCK WIT!!!

  • OMG! I remember this! It was one of the greatest nights of my life!

The chanting? The frantic HBO camera crew with their "WTF!" faces! lol

Can next year even COMPETE with this? We fucking rioted in the LINCOLN center!!!

    :D

  • why exactly did they disqualify them selves?

  • They said they got caught up in the scores, and the press and publicity following them. And its not about that. its about the art. and when competition impedes on art, bad things can happen. so they disqualified themselves to avoid becoming corrpted...

  • What Daizy10231023 said is exactly right, but also it was an act of protest against the HBO camera crews and all their bull shit.

  • I was there too! It was my first BNV ever, and it was beautiful. I can't wait until next year!

  • Same here. I cannot wait!!

  • i loved this.

    theyre so good.

  • aaaah i remember when 2006 providence team did that. yay philly!! i love you guys =)

  • yeah, I was apart of the 2006 providence team, and I was there for this... it made me soooo happy to see someone stand up against HBO and what they did to this competition...

  • who is this?? do you remember me?? i was on the 2006 nj team... i'm the girl that got boo'd at in the bout at bpc w. my boy... lol. sup?

  • Yeah, this is Lewis Morris! I was in that bout with y'all! I remember! How's have you been, homie?!

  • yup of course i will NEVER forget... and ya'll were the dopest team in that whole thing. i'm doing good i'm hosting alot of shows nowadays... how boutchyou?

  • Oh my, you got Booed? What did you do that was so wrong that they would boo you?

  • so much respect to that sacrifice. philly is dope as hell and an example to how determined the youth are to keepin this poetry real ya digg?

  • they forfeited the slam. before they went up to do their first piece they took their whole team on stage (having more than 4 poets on stage is considered using props and illegal) and announced that they would be doing the poems that meant the most to them and not using strategy to win the slam.

  • AND THAT HAS WHAT TO DO WiTH SEAN BELL && THE LYRiCS THEY ARE SPiTiNG??

  • Well it implies that the Sean Bell piece was really close to their heart even though PERFORMING it instead of SLAMMING it might have taken them over time and this was the first round of finals so it was just when they made the official announcement. New York went on to do the same thing without the explanation in the last round.

  • also, I believed they used that poem in semi-finals and there is a limit on how many poems your team can re-use.

  • o.O really... really they just gave up there DREAM they worked so hard and you cant see that?

  • @SunSmileShine their dream was about the poetry keeping poetry pure

"the point isn't the points the point is the poetry" if we lose that we lose everything can't you see that ?

  • @UrbanInkpen

    omg so true... srry

  • i was here at the lincoln. it was amazing. philly was amazing. i felt every word they performede. lol sure i might have been distracted cuz beau sia was sitting directly behind me, but ive never witnessed anything like this. it was an incredibley noble act, and i respect there decision
