  • this is not a fad for me it is who i am finally made it :)

  • Love the video. I'm gonna do this natural thing, just gave up the flat iron as well. One year strong. And go ahead and sing that song girl.

  • Oh jeez i typed a whole long thing and it got deleted :(

Short answer: I love being natural, been natural for most of 25 yrs

Relaxed my hair at 19 yrs and regretted it immediately. Within 9 mnths i had worn it long and cut it in a very short style and then was on my way back to natural. I think having relaxed it, I now appreciate my natural hair even more :)

  • The Lord has truly blessed you with beautiful hair....thanks for the great info. I am a newby---just did my bc on September 1, 2010. I cannot wait until my hair looks like that. Please pray for me because this is a big change for me. I am so use to having very long hair. Nevertheless, I know that it will grow back fast....it usually does..keep the good videos coming....

  • OMG this style is too cute. I definitely be trying this out. As far as natural hair being another "fad", for me it isn't. I never say never but I do not see myself ever relaxing my hair again. But I do believe that for some other ladies it's whats "in". They are like "Well that;s different and I do want a change" so they go natural not really having a strong foundation and reasoning behind it besides the fact that it "looks cool"/

  • I have always had natural hair, but since cut off, of my locs, 2 weeks ago. Now I'm looking for a hair style. I really like the twist out and the curly styles, however how do you make the transition from locs to styling hair. I've had locs for 10 years. All I've been doing so far is conditioning and moisturizing my hair. Making sure it has lots of moisture. I need Help. Can you please tell me how to start.

  • Hi Love your hair...What's the name of the product you use for broken edges...I couldn't understand what you said?

  • thanks so much for the knee-high's tip i've been trying it and it works great.

  • Rabbi Curls!! Lol!! I have 3 different textures in my hair.

  • In my opinion i think it is not a phase. The reason i went natural is because of major breakage, although my fault for putting to many chemicals in my hair. Now that i am natural my hair is a lot thicker and it wasn't like that when i had a relaxer, it was so stringy and limp. So i think a lot of people feel the same say and when they do go natural they are loving it because of the different ways you can do your hair, straight or curly whatever you want.

  • I have been relaxing my hair for yeeaars since my natural hair was difficult, I want to go natural now so I'm going to stop relaxing my hair. Is there something I need to use on my hair to go back to natural?

  • For older women, we see it as deliverance...when you are young you have patience and time for relaxers, plus you want to be cute. Chile, when get older you don't have time for all of that...you just want to keep it simple. Overall, I don't think it is a fad.

  • i agree with MzKari....for some, it really will be a fad.....for me, i have been natural since i graduated from H.S in 2001....its a personal choice...i prefer the versatility of being natural....oh, congrats on getting your Master's. i just recently applied to grad school for my MSW...pray for me girl!!!!! :):):):):):)

  • yes & no. i think it is for some b/c their friends are doin it or its the "it" thing for right now. but for others, its b/c their hair has serious breakage and needs to revive their hair.

i love your hair & your videos. im currently in my "transition mode".i haven't had a relaxer in 2 months. my scalp looks horrible so i've decided that its time for a change & your videos are really helpful with giving advice & inspiration. thank you so much & God bless :)

  • Too cute hairstyle!

  • personally i think it is a yes and no it is finally becoming more acceptable to have natural hair. BUT until we accept who we are we wont be comfortable with our own hair there are so many options out there now

  • i sent u a email cause i could fit everything i wanted to say i was over 250 words, lol

  • ur hair is so pretty

    and i love ur hair

  • In the past, we were taught straight was the way. I have cousins that were tramatized because they didn't have "good" hair like their other cousins and had to enter the back door of some houses because of this ignorance. These stigmas are still prevalent, but as more and more women begin to realize the damage from the straightening process and retaining length, many realize being natural is the way to go. It gives us options from straight to natural all in one.

  • girrrllll i am gon use them knee highs!!

  • I love being natural. Going on 5 years. I don't think going natural is a fad. I think people are really getting a revelation on the health risks of chemically treating there hair not only risk to the hair but to thier body.

  • <~~ Not Phased, Just Being.

  • I am so glad you are back and love the way you end with "Peace and Blessings"!:-) Peace and Blessings to you too! Your hair is gorgeous and Ioved the style you put it in. Please let me know what product you had in your hair.

  • There are so many influentual factors. Ultimately I'm torn between both yes and no. Everything we know is a trend/fad. We embrace newness so much that we've forgotten about those who came before us. Many will commit to it, but many won't. If we can't personally justify it (how does it better us and those around us), educated ourselves enough to make informed decisions about the process (not he/she said), then we are the same women we were yesterday and not aware of the impact of our decisions.

  • I don't think the whole natural thing is a phase, it is happening more and more. It amazes me how many other women are transitioning (I am also). I think that when relaxers first became popular, black women thought it was the best thing because it helped us with our "unmanagable" hair. They lacked the knowlege and even the products to care for our natural textures. Then the 80's came around and as soon as we were old enough, our moms slapped relaxers in our heads and thats all we knew.

  • The braid cleaner she's talking about is by Organic Root Stimulator it's called Herbal Cleanse it smells like Lavender and has a slight alcohol smell.

  • Hey thikandkurly, i am into my 2nd year going natural for the second time. I think there are people who want to go natural because so many other women are doing it. There are others who go natural because they want to embrace their hair and texture...to see what their hair can do and become because they have been relaxed for so many years, they don't know what their hair can do. I think for the most part natural hair is here to stay for a long time to come. love ya!

  • The hair on my crown is like that too

  • CONGRADS ON YOUR NAPP VERSARY!!! lol I've been natural for 8 years now but started actually caring for my hair for 2 years, since my journey I went from neck length to armpit length.

  • Since i have been natural my hair is no longer just hair. I feel like the process of becoming natural has been more about self acceptance than anything else. Realizing that beautiful isn't just smooth and straight, it's big and fluffy and nappy and wild and kinky and shiny and defined its whichever i choose that day but its all me i dont have to chemically straighten my hair to be beautiful. I love me alot better so this is not a phase

  • @Naitsirhk85 OMG I FEEL THE SAME WAY!

I RECENTLY WORE MY NATURAL OUT FOR THE FIRST TIME IM IN LOVE !

SO MUCH CONFIDENCE SUCH A GLOW! GOODBYE FAKE HAIR !!!!!

  • you are so smart and great tips very helpful thanks. and about your question i was really wondering the same thing it feelz like everyone is going natural but i think before we just saw perm as an easy way out because thats how its always been but i think now we are more educated about our hair and it is starting to not be viewed by black WOMAN as something negative anymore but instead something we should embrass like DJDProductions say i think Perm was a trend and natural is who we are.

  • such a great hairstyle on you. Natural for life here.

  • I love my hair being natural. I do not believe it is a phase. I believe once you go natural you do not go back, that is my belief for me. I do switch up with protective styles like braids or wigs. But it seems like I have a connection to my hair. I feel free, I cannot explain the feeling when I touch my hair and treat it right. So I know this feeling I do not want to lose. Congratulations on your Master Degree.

  • congrads on your masters!!! your hair style is really cute as always and i so feel u on the two textures. the middle of my head is near straight and everything else is tightly curly. can be annoying at times

  • Congrats girl! I'm almost done with Bachelors' and I'm debating on my Masters. I may go for it, but ugh, it's going to be a lot of work.

Congrats again to you, that's a wonderful accomplishment!

  • omg i loveyour new style..must try..=].....and I feel you on the two texture thing...the front half of my hair is looser curls then the back..but i luvz it..=] LOVE YUR VIDeos!!!!

  • i THINK THAT IS ORGANIC ROOT STIMULATOR. I USED THAT WHEN I HAD LOCKS.

  • You know I think the relaxer was a phase. We started out w/ braids & Afros then wen to relaxers but now we are discovering/waking up to how damaging they can be & seeing the results of them & now we are starting to appreciate our natural hair which we took for granted. I think natural hair is here to stay & relaxers will soon be a thing of the past. It just took a group of strong women to do it 1st, now everyone else will follow. Y would I ever go back to sweeping my broken hair off the floor?

  • @DJDProductions- "Y would I ever go back to sweeping my broken hair off the floor? " OMG that just spoke to me- I was sweeping my bathroom floor sunday and thought- wow it's amazing to see theres no hair here anymore

  • NewNapChic, it still amazes me how my hair stays on my head and I don't have to vacuum my couch, floors, and unclog the drain of my hair. It truly is an amazing transformation. I would really have to be an idiot to go back. Shoot, I'm saving tons of money too. Haven't been to a salon in almost a year. Wow, I can't believe it will be a year since my last relaxer at the end of August.

  • @DJDProductions- Congrats on 1 year- so cool! Cant wait to get there myself.

  • DJDProductions, i agree that natural is here to stay for SOME people but it is not without its problems and therefore it will never be where EVERYONE is natural. i have been natural since i was 14 (im 20 now) and some days i am so ready to relax, but i try to stick it out even with the breakage and constant knots.

  • Maybe I was wishfully thinking. You're probably right but so far I don't have breakage, knots, or other issues w/ my hair & things will have to be really bad for me to even consider a relaxer again. I feel like any cons I have w/ NH don't out way the cons I have w/ relaxed hair. For me relaxed hair was much harder to maintain healthy because one, it's already broken down & weakened by the relaxer, all the moisture is stripped,& breakage is hard to combat. I wash & style once a week which is easy

  • oooo really helpful i just got my micro braids!!! today

  • many of my fam were trippin when I went natural too! now they're doin it lol

  • Hey B this is Eboni...your hair is gorgeous...congrats on your success boo!!!

  • Yes, long time no see, glad you back. Love the style. congrats. on the MASTERS, you go girl.

  • I think that woman are finally falling in love with their natural hair. We as women of color are very beautiful. We're showing the world what we really look like. We're teaching the young generation to love themselves. It will go on for ever. Natural hair is Powerful. We will show the world what beauty means. God bless

  • congrats on your masters! your whole family went natural that is wzup. i'm hoping it's not a phase either.

  • every one has be told before is never say never, but i dont see myself relaxing ever again. congrats on all your goodies! You GO girl!

  • wow I just looked up the website that you mention and oh my Gosh the products are way cheaper than carolsdaughter ...I might have to give them a try..thanks

  • I love my natural hair I have had braids for 3 weeks and am actually missing my fro. I have vowed to myself to never relax again. If I want that relaxed look for the day I can pull out my wig for the day and wear my fro the next. I am still learning what my hair likes and needs what a journey.

  • The hair is tooo freaking gorrrregusss

  • we have missed you....congrat on the Masters...yes, a lot of my friends are going natural...my husband says that it is a revolution...i hope that it is not a fad, i hope that it is the truth

  • Going natural is SOOO addictive. once people see your hair they become curious and want all types of advice so they can do it too. i'm a newbie so i surely can't give advice because i'm still learning too.

  • Congrats on your Masters, I know the feeling...and DONT IT FEEL GOODDD!?!?!?!!!!

Well for me it was just out of curiosity, but now when I think about it I don't even miss the "CREAMY CRACK." It's not just a phase for me, My natural hair is for keeps. And especially since our whole world is going in the direction of "Going Green" and "Eco-Friendliness" its time we step it out. Natural hair is so much more economical. You can find more than enough products for our hair than is RECESSION FRIENDLY.

  • You know I was thinking about that too! I really hope that it's not a phase. At least for me I know it's not. My mom never wanted me to have a relaxer EVER! I had mine when I was 13 and the day I did it I regret it and felt stupid after a week worth of combing and styling because there was nothing really left to do with my hair. So I've BEEN wanting to go natural. I was just too afraid to big chop as a teen.

  • I know for me...I have taken this natural journey and likened it to my walk with Christ. I have tasted and seen that the Lord is good...and I have experienced and come to know that my natural hair is good!! I have grown deeply fond of my tresses, there is NO going back for me!!

  • Glad your back...I think it's a new day / era....I was watching the view (on ABC) & a tide commercial featuring a black family came on (with jazzy music playing in the background....we have our 1st black family in the white house & the list goes on...it's ok to be "us" & how liberating that is!!

  • congrands on your MASTERS!!!! Welcome to the Masters Club!
