While I am totally against discrimination on the basis of nationality at the Puri Jagannath Temple, I must state that there is no discrimination at Puri on the basis of caste. In fact certain rituals at the temple can only be carried out with the help of non-Brahmin, tribal origin servitors, called Daitas. The absence of caste distinctions has been an integral part of the cult of Jagannath which may be due to possible tribal or buddhist origins of Jagannath.

I have heard this story long back, Someone has predicted this in past " One day a foreigner will come and will take Bagawant along with him" and thats why foreigners r not allowed there (I am not sure its tru or not ) .... Dont know about the lower cast people issue.

I think if Bhagawant has said "Everything will happen according to my direction" then why r we worried? Let all of them enter in the temple. When Bhagawant will decide to go from there who will be able to stop the Lord ??? ;) :D

I just visited Puri. I was raised in Self-Realization Fellowship, which is more-or-less Hindu. My parents have been devout followers of Yogananda for 40 years. The issue raised in this video - whether or not non-hindus should be allowed in the Jagannath Temple - is a serious one. I personally am not more than curious about the inner contents of the temple. But my father is irritated and even hurt that after having spent his life devoted to yoga and to India he is not allowed to enter the temple.

When East India Company entered Puri the Lord Krishna did not destroy the English, followers of Christ as He promised Yada yadahi dharmyasy glani..." in the Geeta and Krishna, Balabhadra and their sister Subhadra did not feel English entry and management of it an insult. I would have thought the Jagannatha temple rule would have changed by now. It's very easy to get swayed and emotional because these events pull at your heart strings, but while I agree that we are all equal in the eyes of God, I also think that Jagannath is very partial to His devotees. He will make a plan for you when the time is right. It's all part of a grand Lila and we have to relish this. Certainly, not being able to see the Lord inside the sanctum does cause some sweet dialogue between you and The Lord. Pray to Him and he will guide you.

The present rule is everyone can touch the lords when they are in Chariot. There are stories that lord has taken offerings from outside of temple since the devotee was not allowed in. So its obvious that lord does not want to discriminate. The learned priests in puri Jagannath temple should sit together and work out on a positive solution to this man made custom. In Hinduism all are equal in God's eye.

What logic? If you are not allowed then you are not. Reason with Lord Jagannath about this, for he is the one that controls everything. And lord Chaitanya not taking Haridas into the temple is a lesson for us[C. B. Mad 20.58], and that is abide by the rules. Wait for your turn during the festival to have darshan.

I'm lower than the straws in the street. The Namacharya Haridas Thakur doesn't need to get inside the mandir to see the Lord, just by seeing the chakra on top of the temple he sees the Lord, an instruction to him by Jagannath himself in the form of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. Jai Jagannath!

Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu, would bring prasadam to Haridasa Thakura because he was not allowed to enter the temple [C. B. Mad 20.58]. And if even he could not get him into the temple then who are you to complain about this. If you worship Lord Jagannath then you must also understand that he is the one who made these rules, maybe this is his wish, for eventually he is the one that makes ALL decisions.

Also, the Karma of the Poojari's that have placed them into the Alter of the lord, how could you say they have no knowledge. Thru the cycle of birth and death they have made there path and transcended to a body in which they can see the lord. No Mryaggi, it is the temple authorities who make these rules. This practice is barbaric and unscriptural. Chaitanya tried to get Haridasa Thakura into the temple, you just said that yourself. However, Caitanya works within the limits of humanity for most of the time, in order to show us how to live. Maybe you should start your spiritual practice and stop your stupidity.

I don't accept that argument. If a man were to assault your daughter, and you went to the police, but they blamed it on karma, what would you do? How would you feel? Although the crime is lesser, the situation is still the same.

You cannot say that the actions of humans are karma. Look at the sword of Damoclese, one view you could have on that idea is that we cannot understand what other people go through, and in light of that we cannot judge people's karma, it is just too complicated.

Your mind and body are worshippable because you understand the fundamental reality that Jagannath himself doesnt want neophytes(westerners) to enter his temple.
