"Systematic Chaos" was not that bad, but unlike to the older stuff it was the worst after "Octavarium"....What I like is the more metal sound in "SC" and also in the "Train Of Thought" album!
We will see...."Hail To False Met.."...ahmm..sorry...this was another band!! :-)
not really, Dream Theater is everything; Progressive, Metal, Rock, Alternative. If Systematic Chaos was their first heavy album then that would be slightly different. think of the Train of Thouhgt Album alone with system.
Yeah i love when DT make Heavy Songs, im mor einto the heavy stuff from Train of thouhgt, Systematic Chaos and Six Degrees of inner Turbulence. are my most favorite.
When announcing news of the album's progress on his forum, Mike Portnoy described the album as "a DT album with 'A Change of Seasons', 'Octavarium', 'Learning to Live', 'Pull Me Under' and 'The Glass Prison'....all on one album..."
Jordan Rudess later explained, "...We've been entering into the Gothic domain quite a bit on this album. There's nothing like a really, really powerful and cool choir sound..."

WTF? I have very mixed feelings following this description...
It could be a combination of what they both said, it could be "a DT album with 'A Change of Seasons', 'Octavarium', 'Learning to Live', 'Pull Me Under' and 'The Glass Prison'....all on one album..." but "...We've been entering into the Gothic domain quite a bit on this album. There's nothing like a really, really powerful and cool choir sound..."
rudess said a bit, not that every song on the album was going to be dark and gothic.
What I'm worried about is DT whoring themselves to the masses again. The description certainly sounds like they tried to put together everything that made them popular and add some other popular elements on the side.
It doesn't sound like they actually went to the studio and told themselves "ok, let's create something completely original"... which is what I expect from prog artists in general.
But I guess we'll all just have to wait for it to come out and we'll find out then.
It appears that Black is a mix of Awake and Octavarium...which is great, since those are my two favorites.
Awake = darkness, thought, spiritual "light side", songwriting attention, rock-solid consistency, MP's less intrusive mix, The Best of Times sort of material.
8 = the mainstream might like it, production job made in heaven, epic finish, lower-range vocals, Wither sort of material, songwriting attention again, 12 saga "ends where it began".
man, i now have a great influence!!!! DT 4 EVER!!
I'm inspired! I think I'ma make a band with the new genre.. multi-genre!

Fucking A Bro. Long Live Dt,
But there is a news that James Labrie is leaving Dream Theater. No one knows if it is true of fantasy

Source please. If he does, I might even stop listening to them. They could lose Rudess or Myung and still be DT, but any of the other 3, no way.

why doesn't anyone like Myung? But yea Rudess they can do without...
