  • well, I did try this and I had a huge fail, guess I need to keep watching, I tried to make a simple hat, didn't have double end needles and when trying to decrease down to just six stiches on circular needles will never work :-(

  • I mean I have learned

  • It's really helpful abscond learned a lot of new stitches and patterns.but I have one question, if I have 128 cast on, and I knit the first one, and place the marker, would that bring me back by one or does it not matter? I'm knitting a hat that requires 128

  • your videos are very clear, thank you! I have 1 question tho, the magic loop is necessary if your stitches do not cover the circumference? or even if they do not cover, I can still avoid using the magic loop that is causing me lots of troubles? thanks for clarifying :)

  • My cast on stitches didn't cover the whole circumference of the circle, so how do I go about knitting in the round as it's hard to join the ends to form the circle :/

  • @feelslikedance

use the magic loop method.....keep moving the stitches. you can see how I do this on my video FINGERLESS MITTS.

  • nice, I detest weaving the ends, thank you for the tip.

  • Happy holidays!!

  • i desperately needed this channel lol. i learned to knit when i was younger but i've never tried to make anything other than scarves and blankets till now and ur videos have been rly helpful! thanks so much!

  • Thank you for this video! I knit flat on circulars all the time, but haven't tried to knit in the round yet. At the beginning of the video, when you joined, I thought you had quite a bit of extra cord left over, but later it appears that the stitches use the whole length. Is there a formula for the portion that can be left empty of stitches? My circulars are all 29 inches. Thanks for all your videos :)

  • thank you for this informative video. it was easy to follow. my next knitting project will be on circular needles, a first for me.

  • @crochet65

glad the video helped you and hope you found knitting on a circular work out well. please keep watching and look for me on facebook.

  • could you please put a casting on video for circular plzz :)

  • @JoriDudz

you cast on exactly like you do on a straight needle.

  • This was very helpful! thank you!

  • @CatDezelski

thanks for letting me know the video was helpful. I hope you'll keep watching and learning and enjoying knitting. please like me on my facebook page.

  • I usually have to look around a lot for a clear video when I'm learning something new, but this one was very simple, so thanks for that!

  • @Donnular

thanks for the nice comment. please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • @Donnular I'm working from this pattern. My problem is it feels like everything is stretched so taunt that I can barely knit. What am I doing wrong?

  • hi judy i accidently dropped a stich while knitting the first 3 stiches what shall i do!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • excellent video!!you explain very good and very quick JUST what we should do!!bravo!!!

  • @frikinWashingMachine

thanks for your nice comment. please keep watching and like me on facebook too.

  • Hi Judy, I live watching your videos. You taught me how to knit! I was wondering if you could teach me how to do the pear stitch? In slow motion please. Do you have a email address? If so comment back please. I am only 12 ! Thanks, God bless you! Victoria

  • Love your videos! Thanks

  • what a good tip on what to do with the tail, I have 2 books on circular knitting and not neither mentioned that! Thanks

  • @icucingme

glad you found that tip helpful. so much easier than having to weave it in at the end. please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • Hi, Judy. I've cast on and while knitting the first stitch, binding the two ends, I don't think I pulled it tight enough! Will that be okay, and can I fix it later? Thanks, and thank you for your helpful videos!

  • @kbutterfli

yes, pull tight on the next round, and the next and it will work out. keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • @knittingtipsbyjudy Thank you very much! I did as you said, and it worked out really well! Much appreciated!

  • can i cast on a small amount of stitches with normal sized circular needles? like 10 stitches? what i'm doing doesn't seem right.

  • @PronagePow

it's easier to use double pointed needles for small amounts of stitches. otherwise you would use the shortest circular and the magic loop method.

  • Hi Judy. .Im a big fan of your work :D But i seem kind of lost. I have a 64 row. and a 28 cast ons. I want to make a hat out of that. And dont worry, if it has any sowing its fine because i can sow as well. Any video which can show me how or can you reply be telling me what to do?

  • @flush233

if you use the circular needle you don't have any sewing. 28 stitches isn't many so unless it's very thick yarn you'll probably need more stitches. look on my web-site for a simple hat pattern. it's for a baby hat, but once you make that you'll know what to do and will be able to make more hats.

  • when you knitted the tail in did you end up with extra stitches?

  • @kzpopori

no, knit the double stitches as one. if you knit them separately you will get extra stitches. watch the video again and do what I do. thanks for watching and please like me on facebook if you have an account there.

  • hi judy is your facebook name the same as on here i can't seem to find you

  • @castleton100

I sent you a private message with the link since we can not include links here. let me know if the link worked.

Knitting Tips By Judy or Judytopaz

  • This was the best instructional video for circular knitting. Thank you.

  • @MamaPalma

thank you so much. please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • thanks so much.

i'm a basic knitter and haven't tried circular needles yet.

a friend recently passed away, leaving me all her needles and yarn. and she has lots of circular needles.

in her honour, and as gifts for friends of our friend, i'm making wrist warmers for each on the circular needles.

    this video is encouraging!

    thank you.

  • @flooozy

what a nice gift for all your friends. you can make the wrist warmers on DP needles too. Might be easier since there aren't many stitches. otherwise use the circular and magic loop method as I do on my fingerless mittens video. check it out on my channel. thanks for writing. look for me on facebook too.

  • hey, thank you so much for posting this tutorial, i can knit like noones business on straight needles but ive got a pattern that requires circular, this is a massive help, a great tutorial with clear instructions ^_^

  • @lifeblood1100

glad the video was helpful. thanks for writing. keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • (sorry for my english ^^" I'm also having a bit difficulty when it comes to technical terms in english as well 'cos I'm not a native ^^" though in time I'll learn)

  • I've started with straight needles for making only scarf. Though I just tried to find a hat pattern for a friend and found another way of making it without the seam using this kind of needle. Despite all the explanation, I still had quite little idea about how this kind of thing works. Your video just makes it easier to start :D I'll keep up learning how to use this. Thanks a lot! X]

  • @KasC31

much better to use a circular needle for a hat. once you get the hang of it it's quite simple. please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • hey youtube advert.... macdonalds is shit. smells so bad. Quality is terribad.

  • hey judy i'm new to your videos and i've instantly subscribed because your tutorials are so concise and helpful! thank you so much! i was just wondering, for this particular tutorial, if you continue on with knitting in a round, and if i were to make a scarf, would it come out as a long tube?

  • @ninaroque92

yes, you would end up with a tube. you could stuff it or just leave it empty. have fun knitting.

  • Ive been learning to knit over the last few weeks and your vids have been very useful - almost like having my own personal knitting instructor

  • @vikkispets

thanks for writing such a nice comment. glad the videos are helpful. please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • What if your circular needle is larger than what you're knitting? Eventually mines going to be 120 stitches, but to start it was only 80.

  • @musicjunkie4

no problem. use the magic loop method like I do on my fingerless mitts video. look for me on facebook.

  • Well....I can't wait to buy my first pair of circular needles now! I always thought it would be waaay harder than this. Thanks!

  • @Oraicia

have you bought your needles and have you started knitting on circulars yet? hope so. please keep watching and look for me on facebook.

  • @knittingtipsbyjudy Yep! I started knitting a toque on my circular needles, as well as a pair of socks on the dpns I bought. I absolutely love them.

  • Is it completely necessary to knit some patterns with circular knitting needles, or is it possible to simply knit on straight needles?

  • @pingo1387

it's much easier to knit round items in the round. otherwise you will have a seam and the decreases are harder to space. but, it can be done. don't be afraid of circulars though.

  • @knittingtipsbyjudy thanks! i'm not 'afraid' of them tho, i just didn't want to go out of my way to buy them unless it was necessary.

  • When you knit in the round does it turn out in stockingnette stictch without you having to do any purl rows? Once video I saw seemed to suggest this, and now I'm confused. Thanks for this video, it was very helpful :)

  • @strawberryfields488

yes, you are knitting a spiral, going round and round, so it is always stockinette. please keep watching and learning. look for me on facebook too.

  • You knit so quickly. @___@ I've only just learned, I want to make socks next.

  • @lyric142

when you've knitted as long as I have you'll knit quickly too. have you started on your sock yet? please keep watching and learning and look for me on facebook too.

  • I have a question about round needles - trying to knitt my first pattern which is a baby blanket - the direction start - Cast on 133 sts. Working back

and forth across needle in rows, proceed as follows:

Work 7 rows in garter st (knit every row), noting 1st row is WS

and inc 8 sts evenly across last row. 141 sts.- wht do they meen by back and forth and can it be done on streight needles ?

by the way thanks a lot for the videos - they have helped a bunch with learning to knitt

  • @alisosia

you use the circular as a straight needle. when you finish the first row, turn the needle around and knit back. DO NOT JOIN AS YOU USUALLY DO ON A CIRCULAR. Watch my video HOW TO KNIT STRAIGHT ON A CIRCULAR NEEDLE to see a demonstration. I will post it again on my facebook page or watch it on my youtube channel.

  • @knittingtipsbyjudy - thank you u so much for replying and so quickly - the video was helpful as all your other videos - but my question was if it calls for circular needles ( as in the intructions in the previous message,) can I use streight needles ?

    Sorry to bother again

  • @alisosia

you can use straight needles, but the pattern will change as far as decreases, etc. also, you will have to sew a seam to join it.

  • Thank you. Very helpful =D

  • I began knitting last year, and used straight needles but became really awkward and frustrating, so I began knitting in the round. I prefer knitting in the round. I don't use straight needles ever unless I need to use double pointed needles.

  • @gypsyqueen64

I AGREE. I use my bamboo circular for almost everything. thanks for writing, please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • Thank you :) I was worried that I was doing it wrong! :3 Xx

  • @EmiOfTheCentury

thanks for letting me know you like the video. please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • @knittingtipsbyjudy Thanks, didn't realise you were on facebook! Now I know where to turn when I get stuck in a knitting crisis! :D

  • Judy I love your videos you have helped me to learn to knit ...a dream I"ve had since I was little!! I always look for your videos when I have a question about knitting. Thanks so much again for all your help:-)

  • @lifewater1984

I'm so glad to know I helped you fulfill a dream. Have fun knitting. Please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • Do you just knit as you would on straight needles? No special differences?

  • @AliSings14736251

yes, do it like I do. no different once you JOIN the work on the first row. please keep watching for more videos and look for me on facebook and twitter too.

  • I could never figure this out; thank you for posting this!

  • @Aly1976

glad it helped you. please keep watching for new videos and look for me on facebook and twitter too. thanks.

  • Thank you Thank you!!!! Now I can make baby cocoons! Thanks!

  • @Pelure32

glad I could help. hope your projects are coming along well. please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • how many stitches do you have cast onto your needle? I can never get the magic number that fits withing the loop comfortably, it is either too many stitches or not enough!

  • @aisling032

if you have a small number of stitches you use the magic loop like did on my videos of fingerless mitts, give that a look.. please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • Hi Judy. Thanks so much for uploading all your tips and demos! I am re-teaching myself after a long absence. Can I use a longer circular needle than the pattern suggested 16inch? Will it be more difficult, or simply not work at all? Thanks!

  • @BluSarahNamaste

Of course it will work. You might use the magic loop method. Watch my video on fingerless mitts to see what I mean. No problem. Please keep watching. New video on today. Look for me on facebook too.

  • I love knitting so you are my idol.Thank for all your videos

  • @edelwinful

I love knitting too so keep watching and keep knitting. look for me on facebook too.

  • okay you cast on like i do, with the working yarn coming from the left hand side, but then when you start knitting the yarn is coming from the right! why does everyone like flip it upside down?

  • @defaultish

it's just the way it happens unless you knit continental. is it working for you?

  • @knittingtipsbyjudy thanks i figured it out, and i just finished my first hat on a circular needle :)

  • Thank you for helping me wrap my head around this technique. Today, hats, tomorrow, mittens!! :)

  • @Wizuss

glad my video helped. have you finished any projects yet? please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • @knittingtipsbyjudy

Just started one, actually. I finally bought some circular needles a few days ago. It's a hat for my son. I started it on my bamboo needles and then transferred to the round and started knitting. By far the biggest bonus for me is the time-saver of not having to switch to purl - knitting is faster for me:)

  • @Wizuss

I totally agree about not having to switch to purl. Glad you're doing well with it. Thanks.

  • You make it look so easy! :p I am a beginner, and your demo has really helped. Thank you!

  • @squishypumpkincat

it is easy....once you get the hang of it. please keep watching and knitting and look for me on facebook too. thanks for writing.

  • ur hands look old.

  • @seanster565

THEY ARE. AND WITH AGE COMES WISDOM

  • @knittingtipsbyjudy the two Ws of age eh. Wisdom and WRINKLES!

  • thank you for all your videos on youtube, I started watching them a month ago and now I am hooked on knitting. I recommend your videos to all my knitting friends!

  • @noviceknittingmom

Thank you sooo much. I love getting comments like yours. Please keep watching,,,,so much to learn.

  • Hi,

I've been using circular needles for a while not, but recently when I've been knitting my hats the inside of the hat has been showing on the outside while I knit and the sides where the round has been joined are loose. Do you know why this is?

    Thanks

  • @eg2m2

People write to me all the time about circular knitting being inside out. It seems you pick up the work and go the wrong way, but it doesn't matter. Just turn it right side out when your done. As for the sides being loose at the join, that usually happens the first few rows, but fixes itself. Keep going. Look for me on facebook.

  • Hi Judy! i love your videos! I am teaching myself to knit so I can eventually create this wave blanket that is made with a 40" circular needle, size 9. I heard form another knitter that I can very well use a 32" circular needle, since she thinks a 40" will be too big. (ending size is 33" by 39")

I also can't find larger sized circular needles at the store. The longest one is a 29". Will that be okay for this project? Thanks!

  • @glmalvar

If you can get all thel required stitches on the needle you'll be fine. Give it a try. If it doesn;t work you'll have to get a longer needle or use less stitches. good luck.

  • Thank you sooooo much for taking the time to make this video Judy! I know it's going to help me tremendously :o)

  • @munificentbolt

so glad to hear the video helped you. please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • Thanks very easy to understand. Going to start today

  • @rodawgy

hope you're on your way now and enjoying it. glad I was of help. please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • Thanks very easy to understand. Going to start today

  • thank you!

  • @JMUthoff

glad you liked the video. please keep watching. new video on today.

  • THANK YOU sooooo much for this video ^_^ i have been struggling with knitting with circular needles for a while now ^_^

  • @hikikimonkey

so glad this video helped you. circular knitting is easier than it looks, once you get the hang of it.

  • thanks

  • @mybluefantasy

you're welcome. new video on today. please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • how do i get off the round when im finished?

  • @126918879

Watch my video on BIND OFF ON CIRCULAR NEEDLE. That shows what to do. Thanks for writing.

  • Thank you so much! This made knitting on circular needles seem so easy! I am excited to go and make me a hat now. Thank you!

  • @littleduckiesocks

have you made your hat yet? circular needles aren't hard to work with are they?

thanks for writing. glad you liked the video. please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • Thanks Judy, Knitting in the round has always had me stumped but you made that easy to understand and easily followable!

  • @burlesqueboy1940

glad the video helped. please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • Awesome vid. If you are a newbie knitter like me there is some great content at at ebeginnersknitting (.) com

  • I used my leftover rubber bands from my braces for the marker. :B

  • @kitsuneofthewoods

    good idea!

  • I am knitting a baby beanie using this method with a light worsted yarn, but am attempting to stripe the beanie with 3 colors. Using your changing colors video along with this video, the beanie is turning out great but seems awfully bulky where I carried the tail of the yarn for three stitches at each color change. Am I doing something wrong? when striping the hat with 3 colors, should I be carrying the yarn up the inside, or do I continue cutting the yarn and "weaving it in" as I go? Thank U

  • @nikkifrank1823

if you think it;s too bulky don't use the method of knitting both yarns for 3 stitches. Usually it looks fine,. Yes, when working with 3 colors you should carry the yarn up the inside. There are always exceptions to every rule.

    Happy knitting!

  • i have a very long needle 85cm 4.5mm one.....i tried casting on 20 stitchs just to try...but i ddnt get a circule i just got a long thread connecting each end...( srry if u dnt get what i mean im not a native speaker >.<" )

  • @kawaiiushii

I think 20 stitches are not enough for your needle. Try double pointed needles for that many stitches. Watch my video on that for help. Good luck.

  • @knittingtipsbyjudy ok i will...i might as well buy a shorter needle ^^

  • u casted on with the 2 needles method right??.....if i used the thumb one would it be the same??

  • @kawaiiushii

I cast on with 2 needles like on my casting on video. I'm not sure how the thumb works. Did you try it? Tell me about it.

  • @knittingtipsbyjudy i did but the in thumb method i couldnt join (it was like as if im knitting with straight needles) but who knows maybe iv done it the wrong way

by the way id like to thank you for always replying no matter how silly my questions are...some people dont reply to comments

    so...thank you very much ^^

  • how do I join when I've cast on just 72 stitches? Sorry, I am a first time knitter and I am having trouble doing this with my U.S. 7 circular needles because it seems too short. If you could let me know what I'm doing wrong I would really appreciate it! Thanks!

  • @lalaLOVExTODAY

You will use the magic loop method. watch my videos on fingerless mittens. I use a circular needle with few stitches and that's how I do it. Good luck.

  • Thanks! Doing great on them now! Love your videos! :) xo

  • @witchy1120

glad to hear it. please keep watching and look for me on facebook.

  • Cheers, Judy. All the videos I've seen showing you how to do this make it look harder than it is. Perfect for a novice like me. :)

  • @LimeBugLove

thanks for the comment. glad the video helped you. please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • That looks SO much easier than what I saw in the past!

It kept doing something where you pulled the yarn separate half way down, then start from the middle and I don't even know. I decided to shelf my circular needles because I found DPNs to be easier!

Now I can pull the circular ones back down :>

  • @MyassWins

yes, what you describe sounds crazy. I hope you've tried it again with success. Please keep watching my videos for more tips. Thanks.

  • Please could you help me to join the legs of shorts, that are on 2 circular needles.

  • @TheSister12345

sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you. I assume you've figured it out by now, but if you haven't I need a little more info. let me know.

  • Why, oh why is my circular knitting always 'inside out?' doesn't matter much for tubular fabric, but when picking up stitches on a rounded neck, for example, I can't avoid creating the ugly ridge on the right side of the fabric. I know it's supposed to be on the wrong side, but, aargh...can some one tell me what I am doing wrong before I give up knitting all together? :)

  • thanks!! i finally understand!!! i find you videos so helpful. much better than the other ones. :)

  • my problem is I'm using large needles but the wire is always small. How do you keep the big stitches big? ahh.. I think I'm going back to crochet!

  • @witchy1120

you just use the tips of the needles so the stitches should be big when you're using a large needle. the wire is just there to hold the needles. please watch my video again and again till you get it right. I know how you feel. crochet is a mystery to me.

  • best circular knitting video i've seen. you make it look so easy :-)

  • @tashamia

it is so easy....once you get the hang of it. thanks for letting me know you liked it.

please look for me on facebook.

  • Great close-up, thanks! :D

  • @enoughtoknow

    thanks. glad you liked it.

  • I find this so helpful! Thank you!

  • @jesslynn1986

thanks for writing. always glad to know the videos are helpful. please keep watching for more. new one on this week and last. and, please look for me on facebook too.

  • Does the Stocknette stitch work well with knitting in the round?

  • @FullArius

yes. When you knit in the round you just knit every row for stockinette stitch.

  • When I get to the point where I want to stop, how do I end it?

  • @joydivstellar

don't feel bad. it takes a lot of practice and patience. keep trying.

  • Hi Judy

Thanks so much for this video. I just bought a pattern to make gloves and it suggested using circular needles. I've never tried them before.

    Everyone says how hard circular
