737's have the highest dispatch reliability of any airliner. The 737 is also much more fuel efficient than the MD-80. I'm an MD-80 Captain and the only thing better than the 737 is the cockpit. The 737 cockpit is smaller and more ergonomically screwed up. I'd just as soon pass on the 737 and go back to the 757, which is the best airliner ever made.
hey guys. hello. i am a pilot for aa and i am FO in the md-83 program. our 83's are 9 years old which we mostly use. on the other hand our 80's are 14 years old but we do our checks for them every single month. so guys dont say what you dont know. it is one of the best airccraft i have ever flown. it is also more fuel efficient than the 737.
American Airline is making money becasue the refuse to buy new planes.... These MD-80's are 20-25 years old. Being used all day long/everyday...Stay away from the MD-80.. They should have been retired 10 years ago.
I agree! All MD-80's need to be replaced!! With either of their mid-range counterparts, the Airbus 319's/320's more fuel efficient, more ecofriendly, generally quieter anywhere on the plane. MD-80's are unfit to fly no matter how well maintained....Down with MD!
The MD-80 sucks. Has to be one of the noisiest planes Ive been on. Thank god AA is deciding to phase these inefficient, gas guzzling piece of shit planes out of their fleet with quieter and state of the art 737-800s.

Wow, tell me something I don't know! But how did Boeing come into this dispute??? All I was insulting was Mcdonnell Douglas's MD-80;
I like boeing's line of aircraft, it's actually my favorite!

Some are barely 10 years old, i.e. ex-TWA ones

United/Copa (with planes 5-7 years old on average) are up there with some of the youngest fleets, so you get what you pay for...EASE OF MIND.

Go talk to Northwest first with their 40 year old DC-9s before you talk trash about American's MD80s.

I've been on an MD-80, It really is noisy. The 757 is 1000000% quieter.
