Sound quality is what you want, so I could care less how his hands look, and speed is not a set thing especially when it comes to Bach. I think it is very well played.
could be worse... happens that with big hands its hard to keep in the position teachers think is the right. but pianists with small ones, like argerich, can play just like the teachers recomend...
@bookguy12000 Yeah, of course it is, but it is not the traditional position. Take a look at Michelangeli or Pollini 's position, it is always very relaxed. Of course there are some special cases, Kissin is one of them ; like Lang Lang or Horowitz.
Great musicianship comes out from the heart and mind of the performer, physical faculties are only a complement of intellectual ones.

Sorry, Kissinites....not very good. The positioning of this guys hands is a major problem....that curled finger approach is holding him back. WAAAAAY overrated.
I like it very much. From my point of view as an amateur of Classical Music for Piano, I'm convinced that the Russian pianist Evgeny Kissin'pianistic tecnique and performance are excellent and amazing. From Lima City, PERÚ.
Yes, wonderful performance, but why i get the feeling bach and chopin is not for him? (yet) Maybe just my personal feeling only, but he sounds originl and eccentric with Prokofiev and Rachmaninov and Liszt. I can't get enough of him playing Prokofiev. but bach and chopin....maybe when he gets older??
i totally agree. Personnality, i think kissin .... need to live his ownlife a little and comme back to piano in a few year. he is too mechanical for may taste
Without doubt Kissin is exceptional pianist but within a certain repertoire. In Schumann he is great ( for instance abegg opus 1) In Bach, Brahms, and Beethoven ? Perhaps not his cup of thee (yet?). Glauciomunduruca, thank you for this upload
This is interesting, I thought evgeny would never perform Bach (I know this is the Buchoni version) as he had to much respect for him. He looks slighty like he's struggling/ being pushed in this.
His RCA recording of this work is one of my favorite piano recordings--too bad the sound on this video is so bad

I love the comments people post on YouTube. An example: "Actually, most of the teachers would say that his hands position are bad."
Funny thing, if his hands position are so bad, why is he the one performing on the video and you're the one writing a comment?

Actually, most of the teachers would say that his hands position are bad. However, they really love to hear him :) not watch him :)
IMO, his hands position can do a lot with the beautiful sound he produces; so the position is ok.
Peace

I don't really like how he treated 1:10 to 2:40, but the rest is superb.

Horowitz's version is hilarious. Just for the beginning.

I'll have to agree with you....MOST of what he does is hilarious. It's all flash and no substance.

I prefer horowitz version, I like the Kissin s sound but I feel that is not very solid the musical speech. It ´s just my opinion.

the very first bars remind me a part of tchaikovsky´s first concerto´s third movement

I think it's really his musical personality.
Personally, I think he sounds better playing Liszt than Chopin.

A fine performance of a monumental piece. It would be interesting to compare it with the Horowitz version.

the piece is great, and the adaptation from the organ's version is cool; but i prefer this piece in its original version
