Cool Bobby B played this on his radio show today, Sat., 8/29/09, (Sirius 50's). I jumped up and screamed like a kid hearing a song written by my husband!
This song was written by Duke Hodgkinson in spring of 1955 when he was with The Versatiles and was originally called "Hey There Love". It was written in Riverside Park in the tunnel that goes to the yacht club. They were looking for an echo and Duke & Chucky wrote the song!
Don't know where you heard this song originally?? but,it originated out of Springfield Gardens in Queens done by un named group I have the demo it was done at Saunders studio NY 1957
Actually, "My Heart Belongs To Only You" was our "A" side. It won the daily and weekly contest on the "Murray the K" radio show in NYC, and reached number 9, I think, in Albany, NY.
You can hear the contest and lots of other stuff on "Tony & The Holidays aka The Standards". There are also more of our records on YouTube under "Buddy Sheppard".
Thanks so much for listening, and glad you like it!
I have long been under the impression that The Holidays were The Belmonts and Tony was one of the singers they were promoting.. supposedly The Belmonts even produced the record but had it placed on ABC instead of releasing it on Sabina.
Please tell Duke his music is still alive and well. I used to play both sides of this on my radio show, The Saturday Night Stroll. Hello Love was requested pretty frequently after I gave it airplay. People love the record when they hear it. The record I was referring to being produced by the Belmonts is Tony and The Holidays on ABC Paramount. Were the standards also Tony and The Holidays as Howie mentioned above?
Thanks! Duke is still singing. He actually has an eight octave range and sings bass all the way to Frankie Vallie falsetto.
The Standards had Richie (I forgot his last name) as their lead singer. Duke sang lead on "I Won't Cry Anymore" but he had to sing bass because he was the only one who could and he was, and still is damn good! "The Holidays" had Tony as lead singer.
Two years ago Duke, Richie, Larry Loeb (1st tenor) and Larry Rizzo (baritone) reunited at a wedding in New York.
I WANT THIS RECORD!!!!!!!! This is a nearly impossible find on Magna and pretty hard to get on Chess. The flip is a killer too, My Heart Belongs To Only You.

The Belmonts did not produce this record, their manager did.
My husband is Duke Hodgkinson, who wrote the song and he is the bass on this song. I love seeing and hearing this on YouTube. Diane Hodgkinson

Hadn't heard this gem since first hearing it on a "Ronnie I Show" radio broadcast back in the late '70's. Yes, the Magna label is a much rarer find.

I didn't know it wad that rare. I think I got it very cheap actually, but sometimes you have luck! I agree, it's a very good song.
