Impressive. However, you do realize that by putting a 650hp K20 in the Atom you´ve transformed what was otherwise a great handling car into something that´s only usefull for straight-line acceleration...

@richardbroder, Do you realize you can never have too much horsepower... only too much weight, which has not changed, It corners, brakes, and handles just as well as before, if not better than it ever did before, The car hooks unbeleivable because it does not weigh anything, and the chassis can handle way more than you think. I am thinking of even going closer to 750 horsepower in the taller gears like 4th and above. Cheers.

You do realize cornering is strictly relationed with power, since acceleration determines the way the car can output cornering. What happens in a very light RWD car, with a small engine and a huge turbocharger that boasts power in a non-linear way (as do all big turbo engines)? Once you get in a corner and you accelerate strong, your car will spin.

@92lxcoupe1 So you have to accelerate less in order to not get wheelspin (and thus, not spin or drift the car during cornering). Either that or corner in low-revs, while the turbo isn't filling pressure, either way, you'll be slower then a car with a weaker, less powerfull engine that has the ability to make corners with 100% acceleration and no wheelspin. If the Atom was 4WD, it wouldn't have that problem, since 4WD has much more traction and can cope with hi power without losing efficiency.

@richardbroder not true. He can only accelerate as fast as his tires will let him grip. Either way, if he is half throttle with a turbo and on the limit of adhesion, or if he's full throttle with an NA motor and at the limit of grip, the car will accelerate at the same rate. And the turbo motor will rape on the exit. Think of it this way, compared to an Atom 3 using 300 hp through the corner full throttle, this turbo K20 atom will be 300 hp at partial throttle. Accelerates the same

@Shadowboost Huge turbochargers = huge power output = huge turbo lag. The end result is a engine that´s weak up to 4-5k RPM and explosive once the turbo comes up. There´s no power modulation at all, it´s an on/off engine. It will either give you too much power or no power at all. Take a look at a dyno graph from a 4cyl 600hp engine, the power curve just skyrockets once the turbo comes in. That´s not good for cornering, since cornering benefits from good power modulation.

Unless you have some very sophisticated traction control system, that´s the kind of ideal the human foot has no sensibility to attain. A NA or compressor-based engine that will give you up to 300hp with great modulation will be better in cornering then a engine that will either be giving you 100hp pre-boost or skyrocketing to 600+ hp post-boost.

Hi everyone, a couple notes about this video, I was the driver and I also had a friend riding along in the passenger seat with me. It was his first time ever in the car,(he weighs about 175lbs.) As far as spool up time for the turbo, it is instant. the only reason it isnt always completely spooled up as fast is because I am slowly easing the throttle down smoothly, to keep traction, although it does hook well. Anyway wasnt trying to break any speed records on cold tires with a passenger.
