One of my favourite Joe Jackson shows was when he was at Toronto's Palais Royale, an old time dance hall that my folks went to when Dad was in WW2. He did Beat Crazy, Joe was drunk, the music was Reggae style, It was early 1982. And it was all good! Really good!
I'm an old fan of this guy. Going back to the 1970's. He's a genius. Graham Maybe, his long time and dedicated bass player, lost his wife to cancer recently. I've never seen Joe without Graham at his side. He's also one of the good guys.
I saw Joe live and was wishing he would do this song but wouldn't be surprised if he didn't, as a performer can't possibly play all their stuff. Besides it is not one of the mot popular tunes so... To my surprise and delight he ended that night with this actual tune. Boy was I happy.
I can't imagine why anyone in the audience would want to tick off Joe Jackson! As far as I'm concerned, people are damned lucky to see Joe Jackson live!
When i heard him starting to sing and heard the slight croak in his voice i was afraid he'd bomb the high bit in the chorus... Never should have doubted him, it almost makes it better...
I can remember the "slow song" at the end of the night/closing time. This is the best slow song of them all! Interesting to see Joe getting ticked off by someone in the audience.
