  • Shogidokoro is my favorite Shogi software. Not only does it play Shogi engines, but it also supports peer to peer play.

  • Hi Hidetchi. Thank you very much for your videos.

My question is: "Is there a version of Kifu for windows in english ?"

  • Nejuf I have the same problem...

So if someone knows how to get BCM Shogi please tell us!!!

    Thanks.

  • The website for BCM Shogi doesn't seem to have the download (talks of lack of storage). I've looked around for the download, but I can't find it. Anyone know where it can be found? Thanks.

  • how do we get these?

  • Thank you for your time putting these together, and your english is excellent!

  • Thank you for your lessons , Hidetchi-sensei .

  • 9:44 your face is shown XD. Why was your voice modified when you pronouned the sites? thanks for this lesson Hidetchi-san!

  • I changed the speed of the voice file in order to make the video shorter than 11min.

  • oh cool =), I didn't notice that your voice was speeded up ^^'.

  • Hello Hidetchi. I've downloaded the Kifu software... but im not sure on how to use it. How do i see the moves made by played by professionals on it?

  • OMG THANKS A HELL LOT!!! My com doesnt have handicaps or tutorials and I could never beat it uptil now... But with the hamster thing i could start practicing with handicaps and improve :D thanks!

  • Thank you for the BCMShogi-Software. It's great. :-D

  • Oh, sorry. I shouldn't try this software before watching the video until the end.

    It works now. ^^

  • I've downloaded the shogidokoro but I can't play against the PC. It's deactivated. Seems that I need an engine.

PS: It's right. This programm gets an english interface by installing on a non-japanese PC.

  • what amueter rank do you think that people who can beat this hamster on the full game are?

  • can BCM shogi playback games like Kifu?

  • Yes, of course.

  • hey is this hamster shogi a strong opponent? i played with him i few times but he owns me all the time

  • cool

  • i just download the BCMshogi,, but it seems like it cant start the program,,, may i know whats go wrong?

  • Make sure you've read all the explanations in BCM's webpage. I thought there was some other files that you have to install as well. Runtime library file or something.

  • also for nintendo DS owners there is a game called club house games wich is a collection of board and card games, shogi is in the advanced board games category!!

  • Thank you so much for your reply shogi4fun !

Thats great to hear :-). Btw. Did you make BCM all by yourself? How many code lines did it take? Thanks again

  • Yes, the source-code of BCMShogi is completely done by me.

But still I have many help (graphics, sounds, ...) as you can see in the "Credits"-section on my homepage:

    home . arcor . de/Bernhard.Maerz/BCMShogi/

The code is current about 25000 lines.

  • Another small question, how would you judge the level of K-shogi? If i can beat it in a non handicap game which kyu am I (of course if its good enough to class it in this rank :) )?

And which engine would you recommend to play against next? And one which are you using?

  • I havn't played K-shogi much myself, so I'm not sure how strong it is. I guess the strongest free engine is Bonanza.

I don't quite play against computer these days, and when I do, I usually use commercial softwares.

  • Let me answer more in detail. ;-)

For the strength of shogi-engines, look at floodgate:

    wdoor . c . u-tokyo . ac . jp/shogi/LATEST/players-floodgate.html

KShogi is the second strongest free shogi engine.

In WCSC17 in 2007 it reaches the final round.

If you can win against KShogi, you are a realy strong player. ;-)

Your next (and final) opponent should be Bonanza, the strongest free engine.

  • question... if I understand anything I heard, if i get a USI like laramie, I can somehow put it on BCM then can play against a computer? i kinda got lost. :D

  • Exactly. You can play against USI engines on BCM or Shogidokoro.

  • so...... how exactly do i do it? :D i got laramieV3 and unziped it in USI for BCM, but that did nothing :D

  • There must be a dialog in BCM where you can add the engines to BCM's list and link them.

  • Cant find any :'( There has to be a way i know that, but how is the question :D

  • Sorry for beeing late. :-(

You could also email me or post into Shogi-L.

    groups . google . com/group/shogi-l

    1) BCMShogi was specialy made for game analysis. For PLAYING I always told, Shogidokoro is better.Nevertheless, next version will have playing functionality.

    2) Sorry, but there is still not yet a dialog for configure the engines.

You have to look into "settings.ini" and search the "[Engines]"-Section.

I believe, then you know where to put the Engine-Exes, or how to set the path to it.

  • Now the creator of BCM answered to your question himself... Sorry I didn't know it's only for analyzing games.

  • Thanks for the information, Ztryn-san.

Posting long posts is no problem. I just welcome lots of comments.

  • By the way: I've made a short introduction video about BCMShogi, which you can find here at youtube. ;-)

  • @HIDETCHI

Thanks again for this video and for the advertising of my program.

About the links, you can check this site:

    superheroshogi[dot]blogspot[dot]com

Oh, one important link is missing:

    home[dot]arcor[dot]de/Bernhard.Maerz/BCMShogi

    ;-)

    @Hafesie

Sorry, I didn't understand your question.

  • Is the german voice dude in german (A language i can understand)

  • Excellent video, as always, Hidetchi :) I totally recognized your voice in BCMShogi as soon as I heard it!

A small question -- what would you estimate to be the level of Ham Shogi? If I can reliably beat him with no handicap, can I safely say I'm at least 15 kyu?

It will probably be a very long time before I am able to beat any other engines, hehe...

  • Well, I played a non-handicapped game in Hamshogi, and found it to be not too bad. I guess you're at least 10kyu if you can beat him.

  • thank you so much! I have been looking for free online shogi software. I'll download a couple this weekend when I have some free time and try a few out.

  • ya, writeing the url in the description would be better.

i got a free shogi program thats english and even has the option of english charicters on the peices.

if any one wants this you can message me, it runs on dos fo rit for windows XP or lower, it dosnt seem to work on vista

  • hey man

    would be a lot easier!

  • Hi, thanks for the comment.

Yeah, I know. (^^;) I thought I'll have to type all their address anyway. I'll do that with Youtube's "Annotation" when I have time. I just wanted to upload the video first.

  • Oh, and I see you're a penspinner! That's cool!

  • oh yes, ty ^^
