err, there is no such thing as an improper or proper strumming technique. The only difference is that this sounds crap xD -- often people come up with there own strumming "technique" its down to user preference and the song they're doing as to the motion of the hand and where abouts they strum on the guitar. I often strum close to the bridge which can be viewed as improper. But it all depends on the song I'm playing and the sound I'm trying to get from the instrument.

yeah, some people do do it this way, and it might work for slower paced guitar, but when you get into boogie, rock, anything with fast strumming, it will be extremely difficult to master.

because the wrist can do a flicking motion, using your wrist is the best way.
