Fitzsimmons was a freak of nature. A 19th century Tommy Hearns or Manny Pacquiao. He was famous for knocking out much bigger men than himself, and he will go down in history as one of the biggest hitters ever to grace the sport of boxing. Of his approx 350 fights (many of which were unlicensed) he KO'd over 200 men inside of 2 rounds.
WOW...There has been more of this fight restored. I have watched it from time to time and it was never this long. Thank you so much for posting. When ever I hear the name Corbett ....Errol Flynn comes to my mind.
@dretety it was 11...and corbett was sitting on him for 2 seconds of that....and it also depends when the ref started counting...oh thats right this match was fixed...this is the only place i have ever heard this mentioned...it is not mentioned in any of books i have.
See the big guy with the hat entering the ring at the very end of the tape? None other than future champ Jim Jeffries who was one of Corbett's sparing partners.
That punch was called the left shift because he would switch southpaw as he threw it. He used the same punch to KO a few other contenders like Sharkey and Ruhlin.
Some boxing historians have maintained that Fitz decked Corbett with a punch to the solar plexus. In the film, however, it looks like Bob hit Jim in the liver. Either target would have been incapacitating --
Are there any films of Corbett besides this?

It's amazing, this video is almost 114 years old. Boxing really hasn't changed all that much.

For a fight that took place 112 years ago, the quality's pretty good! Thanks for this classic, Fitz was one of my faves.
