  • amazing! it takes a lot of strength for a horse to do that! :) I have a question though. My paint was bred for reining, do you think she could still do WP and slow like that if I get the right trainer? She was bred for reining, but she just gets so nervous around horses going really fast, but i want to show her so i thought WP would be a nice relaxing way to show her and have her be comfortable and enjoy showing instead of being scared.

  • very very cute!!!!!!

  • wonderful

  • omg he/she is so collected thats ammazing

  • hey this is sarayah voorhees im the one who currently own cruiser i saw on your site that you had videos of him but they had expired i was wondering if you could post some more if you had time im just very curious about how he used to move. I absolutely love him he has been a great horse for me. thanks

  • Hi Sarayah, those expired videos are actually from Jennifer Barbee, I haven't posted any videos of Cruiser ever. I will try to find some old footage for you, and Thank you for doing so well with him and loving him like I did. I hope someday when he is old and retired he can retire in my pasture, I am still crazy about that horse... send me a private message and I'll give you my email address...

  • Way to go JC Performance horse! I could not have said it any better myself. Glad to see people standing up for their own! I ride cutting horses, but love to watch the western pleasure horses too!

  • good point!! yes that is true your horse is bred for that, mine are bred to be racehorses so naturally they will move differently! hmm very good point.. isnt it tru tho that some ppl take it to the extreme where the gait is actually changed from a three beat (natural lope) to a four beat lope? and yes your right that a lot of dressage movements you would not see a horse doing "naturally" either.. and i LOVE dressage!! well thanks for the insight!!:-)

  • i have never understood these classes.. no disrespect. but does anyone know why they have to go so unnaturaly slow.. it looks boring! my Thoroughbreds trot is faster than these horses lope with forward motion.. and she is fully a "pleasure" to ride :-) i mean no disrespect i just dont understand why it is? can anyone help me out?

  • To each his own. Why do some people love golf & others football, personal preference.

Also, there is nothing un-natural about my mare, she lopes across the pasture at the same pace and frame. It IS natural for her its what she was bred to do. Western Pleasure is a class of beauty, grace, ultimate collection & strength. Its not dis-similar to dressage. We do many of the same strength & lateral exercises to strengthen our horses. The biggest difference is that our horses can do it on a lose rein.

  • my friends mom was in this class reserve i believe

  • yeah, i can't get a very slow lope. I tried kissing to my mare to canter and then pulling her back, and it slows her down, but keeps her head really high. probably because she retired from racing--but i can never get her to lope! she just wants to run! ({we do barrels instead most of the time.. whoo hoo!)]

  • how do you train your horses for a slower lope? i have never trained my horses to go at that speed, and have always wondered wha tthe differnt training methods are for training the slower lope.

  • it helps if ur horse is spur stopped

  • That was a tough finals class, and you looked great! Congrats! :)
