wed3k have you ever been to a VW drag race befor you wouldn't want to say that to the people there they'd beat the crap outta you and most of there cars go faster than 140 mph which is fairly good considering the engine in the car.
The VW community is pretty much the coolest group of people I've ever had the privilege to hang out and chill with. Just bought a '63 Rag, your car is inspiration.
I have a73 reg. and will finally be rebuilding the engine at the end of August, taking it from a 1600cc to a 1641cc and using all Scat components. Then I will get the flamethrower series from Pertronix and do the entire ignition system electronic. Last hopefully around September I will put new exhaust on from Mid America motor works, which has single tip with glass packs to give her a deeper sports car sound and not so throaty. Ist is kool-ja ???
Bet you leave Honda guys that think they're hot sh*t in their bone stock Civic with a fancy muffler scratching their heads and going "WTF just happened!?"
@jberling1 Never really abused it on the street. I earn my living having a license and don't need to lose it or get nailed with higher insurance premiums. I did, however, surprise a GTI on the highway that tried to pass me by shooting over to the on ramp to go around me. Needless to say, he tucked back in behind me.
On the street I have the waste gate set at 12PSI, on the track I have been anywhere from 15PSI to 17PSI. Last week I did an 11.946 at 109 in the 1/4. Looking for mid 11's this year. No intercooler in my set-up.
With no intercooler, beyond a certain boost, the charge temp can be so high that a higher pressure does not mean more air, ie density decreases with temperature. Does this limit the max boost, as in u get less power beyond a certain pressure, along with detonation etc?
My buddy runs 20PSI in his bug and uses methanol to cool the charge. Another buddy uses an ice filled intercooler and runs 19 to 21 PSI. I limit my boost at 17PSI and use 109 octane fuel to decrease the chances of detonation. It will also depend on the compression ratio of the engine how much boost you can safely run. You are absolutely right with your comments.
Yeah, it's a street car first and foremost. If it was for drag racing the cam would be different and we would have done a few more tricks on it. Sure is fun on the street too!
Thanks for the comments! Don't know top speed, the speedo tops out at 120km/h. It does the 1/4 in the low 12's at about 105mph. 264hp was at about 6600rpm.
i love the look of this california style bug! I wish i had one of those instead of my 2 modern cars i own. Here in Germany those are very very rare. I think the US bumpers are the best looking.
On that run it was 262hp, you can hear the guy yell it in the background at the end. On the next run it was 264, that was the best I did that day.
Engine is 2387cc, CB Performance built, T3/T4 turbo and prototype CB fuel injection. Boost on that run was about 16 lbs, 103 octane race fuel. Engine hit 8000rpm on that run.
very nice!!!

@aircooledvw62 Coral red from the new (at the time) Ford Thunderbird James Bond edition. More pink / orange than the VW coral.

Oh man the memories of the bug.
I had a 61 a 66 and a 74 super beetle.
My 66 was a project car, I can still remember the Dual 48 IDA Race Weber Carbs on that guy.
I couldn't hear the stock radio at all.

8:1. If you have access to January 2007 HotVWs magazine all the specs are on page 109. Car is featured on pages 78 through 81.
