  • I don't want to be rude...But i'm allmost sure it is Sevdah, from Bosnia...

I just mention it becouse of the written text about it under the video.

    Aúpa, Muzika Bizirik!

I like to visit the Balkans, ALL of it.

  • @lavidaesunamuerda

It is difficult even for us Balkan folks to distinguish...

it is possibly Bosnia, possibly Serbian, even Bulgarian, also Croatian ( thou less)

Since all Slavic roots... we understand - but, who can tell...

There is a saying... The first one, marry her -

  • Sorry but when the GERMANIC barbarians came to the Balkans there was no Serbians there,The Serbians belong to the Slavic family and in those times they where in Russia, not in the Balkans

  • bosnian sevdah is prime for this :)

  • What is with all the political comments? Music as beautiful as this transcends all that. JUST LISTEN!

Ja volim sav narod mog balkana! kad vlasi prestanu slusati politicke vodze i vise muzike onda tek onda ce biti mira na nasem lijepom balkanu! zivila moja voljena bosna moja voljena srbija moja voljena hrvatska moja voljena makedonija moja voljena slovenija moja voljena crna gora moja voljena albanija volim vas ljudi moji!

  • Ja kad ovo gledam i slusam razmisljam o mladosti moje majke. :)

  • Orthodox this, muslim that; and we are all mankind, ha? Look at the Balkans now, and be proud of your piece of art... The seeds of hate and discrimination are turning green and paying off today... :(.....

“When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace." - Jimi Hendrix

  • @korhan75 LOL, grow up.

  • @korhan75 it says your from turkey, and you're calling this our piece of art? Maybe you forgot that the turkish ottoman empire ruled the balkans for centuries and is one of the main causes of what is going on today. Be a little more careful next time you call the situation in the Balkans OUR piece of art

  • @borcamilos they didn't rule them, they occupied them, and destroyed them.

  • @korhan75 yez mate how very right you are. Serbia, your country is beautiful but your hate for those around you makes me sad, i say a prayer for you... may you see that Albania share much of what you do, so stop being so proud and GROW UP this isnt hte playground anymore, this is the EU for fuck sake

  • @lsdvine: Yes, we in the USA have our problems with Serbia especially considering the onset of WWI. But, I have do ask: if Albania is so great, why do their people keep running over to the USA illegally? It just doesn't add up, bud.

  • @korhan75: You are citing something from Jimi Hendrix? Okay...

But know this: People want to live in peace. Not all people are interested in Muslim domination, especially not the USA. Europe has been figuring this out as they go along, and we've been watching.

  • Ochen krasivaya pesnya!!!!! SERBIA- Blagoslavit tebya Gospod Bod!

  • all balkan music has greek- byzantium origins

  • @poutsas69...cut the crap...

    Greatings

  • @MsBosnasarajevo

    Tko ti šćeri pokida đerdane

  • Great music! Part of my family came from Serbia to America in the early 1900's. Proud Great-Grandson of Rade Hrnjak and Danica Svilar

  • @jacobmlake Be proud of that brother. Serbia is the cradle of our civilization. Look up Ancient Serbia and research little bit. Unfortunately while we were building, dancing, drinking and singing Germanic barbarians were writing history to suit their insignificant needs. German even renamed Helm (old Serbian name) into Balkans in 1800s. cheers

  • hello u are not watching sebian people in the video.

I think is from Balkans, maybe, it's a woman voice and only a low wind instrument. the correct writing, at least.

  • Most of this pictures are from southern Serbia and Kosovo region sometime caled old Serbia... Bravo from Canada

  • Thank you for posting this amazing soul music.

  • Highly serene! Good to see international appreciation here :)

  • I love Serbian folk music. I grew up listening to Radio Belgrade.

  • Greating from Greece!

  • BEAUTIFUL AND MAGICAL

  • PREDIVNO SLUSAM JE PO 100 PUT

  • thank you so much Pieter... to me, music is life itself and it's good to find people like you, with a heart open to authentic melodies from all the corners of the world. it's soothing to hear these gems in the nightmare of turbo-folk in Serbia. these traditional songs remind me of my mother. :) it's not easy for me to find them and i definitely want to make a collection. hugs from Serbia!

  • Beautiful!

  • Krasá! So beautiful, does anyone have the names of the singers? Or have they already appeared somewhere here...

  • Poznate sevdalinke.

  • Orthodox Serbia was trying to act as a buklwark of Christendom against the Albanian Muslim hordes. Serbia remembered the Plain of Kosovo 500 years ago like it was yesterday. The day is not far off when Europe will rue the day she and the Jewish dominated United States allowed the bombs to fall on Beograd. Muslims now have a strong foothold in the Balkans. Before the Albanians were not fanatics. Now they want a Greater Albania. Only little Greece helped her Serbian Orthodox brothers. Slava!

  • well done mate!

  • Ook mijn dank Pieter! Prachtig!

  • I am a Serbian Australian and i am crying as im watching. Its very moving to see my family history. Thank you soooo much and god bless

  • Thank-you for posting this.

The songs and the voices of the singers were truly touching. I understand the lyrics so hearing these songs especially hit a chord.

Another song that is quite old and equally beautiful in my opinion (in a different vain) is called "Bele ruže, nežne ruže". There are a few different videos posted on YouTube with different male singers singing the song but it is a very heartfelt and touching song as well. I am sure many of the Serbian posters are familiar with it.

  • I have just discovered Serbian folk music. Wonderful. We have a significant Serbian community here and these beautiful songs tell me they have been keeping there lovely culture a secret from us.

  • this video truely shows a race of people going extinct the simpleness of a forgoten culture were religion and politics can destroy a people... the first phrase of the last song says it all. excellent work finding this mate!

  • Braco Srbi, budimo ljudi, iako smo Srbi.

Ipak, he, he, ima i na Balkanu pameti!!

  • This is Serbian music

  • many thanks, PieterdeRooijiHolland, for this beautiful reminder of how powerful and enchanting our folk (ex Yugoslavian) music used to be. this has been the third time this afternoon i've burst into tears for hearing some of these precious tunes that are now being neglected due to the incredible impact of kitchy turbo folk. love&peace!

  • Heavenly stuff

  • Thank you Mircbell for the translation .Wonderful music , wonderful voices

  • thank you for posting a trainslation Mircibell

  • Who sings the last song? :)

  • The lyrics for the second song

what kept you, my love, why aren't you coming to me,

why aren't you coming, why aren't you coming to me

    either you're sick or sad,

    or your mother forbids it,

    either you're sick or sad,

    or your mother forbids it,

neither sick nor sad, nor my mother forbids it, but another ,

    another love i have found.

  • who sapped the golden pieces from your neck, who spilled your pearls and stones early this morning, Mother, I went to garden to pick first lilacs for you, my gold caught on dewy branch, the pearls spilled under the lilac, why are your eyes glazed over, like you haven't slept, the hummingbird singing on the branch, and I listened till day dawned, enchanted by the sweet song, from rapture I slept not, My daughter, my sorrow, who unbuttoned your vest, don't ask me my dearest mother

  • Bedankt van een Servische:)))

  • Thank you so much.

  • Very nice music...

  • Bravo Pieter!

  • Beautiful!

  • It is really heartbreaking !

  • @PieterdeRooijHolland Just a small explanation the third song is not serbian. If you are curious what the song is it, find out the language it is sung. Greets.

  • Man, wat hartverscheurend mooi !

    5 sterren en favouriet.

  • respect

  • Approximate translation of the lyrics of the third song:

If you only knew, my dear maiden,

how much to I miss my youth

you would wait for me at the gate

you would help me climb down from my horse

you would lead me to the terrace

and shower my face with kisses

  • Thank you very much!

  • @PieterdeRooijHolland they are not sebian women by the way :-] lovely music though.

  • @GAStojanov could you please post all the lyrics of these songs in english, please?

    Shalom

  • @GAStojanov Thank You for translation.

  • The lyrics of the third song:

Да знаеш мори моме, да знаеш,

    колка је жалба за младост,

на порта би ме моме чекала,

    скоња би ме моме слегнала

на чардак би ме моме водила,

у лице би ме моме љубила

  • These songs belong to the genre of Sevdalinka, meterless love songs popular in Bosnia, Serbia, Macedonia and somewhat in Bulgaria.

The last song: Da znaesh mori mome (If you only know, my young maiden) is from the very southern edge of Serbia (Vranje) and was/is popular in Macedonia also.

Pozzz. !

  • I got goose bumps, as a romanian I have a natural bond with our serb sisters and brothers. Zivelj brate moje!

  • Thnakyou because you are preserving our heritage. Greeetinfs from Belgrade. Jasmina Milojevic, ethnomusicologist

  • Brawo,pozdraw ot Bulgaria!

  • Peter, thanks for those fantastic 3 songs.

they're high level from any point of view. i'm not from the Balkan lands but they're "talking" to me as if thye're mine in a way. they recall to me young Alms subacic. she is also serbian singer, and although she is much much younger than the singers hear, there is resemblance

in the tradition way of singing and accents and spirit .

  • Peter thank you for posting this magnificient songs, serbian heritage. The photos are lovely too. As you have yourself explained the songs are from Serbia, recorded by Radio Belgrade, so why not call them "serbian folk"? Even better, if you know the name of each singer you can state them too. They deserve to be rembembered.

Thank you in advance for taking our comments into account .

  • beautiful!!!!!!!!!from Hungary

  • Wunderschöne Musik !!

  • Thank you for posting this music and the lovely pictures, Having been raised in the UK and not in the country of my parents origin, it means alot to me. Stirs my soul... this music is in my blood. Vesna from Oxford. CCCC

  • Bravo Vesna,Birmingham

  • Why don't you name the names regarding the title of your video, since this is Serbian music, these singers are Serbian singers, and the recordings are also made in Serbia? In spite of all Serbs being proud on Balkan geographic area and heritage, there's no need for this ambiguity in your title, since the music and songs tell so much about the people who still sing them. If you want to give credit to all musicians and people in your photos, at least recognize their suffering people in your title.

  • You are right, absolutely.

  • The second singer, Ksenija Cicvaric (1927-1997), was not exactly Serbian, she was from Montenegro. But the language is essentially the same and Ksenija was highly cherished throughout Serbia, Bosnia and Hercegovina as well. Have a look to the other youtube videos with her.

  • People from Montenegro are Serbs, so she was Serbian :)

  • @caacaanin People from Montenegro are Montenegrians...im Montenegrian...it is same like u say all people from Serbia are Hungarian???!!!!??? E VIVA MONTENEGRO!!!!

  • You gotta be kidding me! As Montenegrin I'm telling you - ALL Montenegrins are Serbs. Being Montenegrin is just a regional, not an ethnic reference. Don't play dirty politics here, this is about the culture of one people, not about seek political attempts for the revision of history.

  • We Montenegrins are not Serbs, we are the superiorest Serbian ruling class and we hug Serbia during a war and seek to seperate our riches during peace, hahahahahahahahaha, that is what makes us more Serbian then you Serbians and Bosnians, we are cunning and rithless!

  • Comment removed

  • @miavaso pls u maybe like the Illiriyan theory? What are Albanians doing listening to Serbian music?

  • @andrejakomnen Thats right brother...4C

  • @andrejakomnen

Sorry, Andreja, but are you a tourist in this country? Be serious in informing others, please, and respect the peoples living in your country. Peace and respecting other ethnic groups is an important part of what makes Montenegro great! I like Serbia(ns) as well, but...

  • @TheAcidgirll With all due respect I'm not trying to talk about the others; I'm only focusing on my Montenegrins, who ethnically all belong to Serbian people... Since I'm not interested in politics, I think of, let's say Peter II Petrovich Nyegosh, more as a permanent, everlasting category than some vague statement of any given time period. I don't care what politically correct mantra is being imposed, I just know who I am and the people I belong!

  • Thanks a lot for this video! It's beautiful! They just take my breath away..

    Greetings from Serbia! :)

  • Thanks a lot for this video! It's beautiful! They just take my breath away..

    Greetings from Serbia! :)

  • From Croatian living in Canada, thank you

    very nice

  • beautiful . A deeply cultured country that deserves much more respect and understanding

  • What language is this? Where is that country?

  • Serbia, Europe.

  • Southeastern Europe, Balkan. Neighbor countries: Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania, Montenegro, Macedonia, Croatia, Bosnia.

    And were are you from?

  • bravo!! great clip. They take my breath away.

  • I'm an Albanian from Tirana. Your music although I don't understand its words does strike a cord in my heart. Your people have suffer a lot so have my people. I don't wish on you people destruction.I hope to see you people recover and be your best again as you always been. What has been done can not be undone so lets focus to make our Balkan great as it deserve to be. I only got love for you guys at heart.

  • Bravo. Thank you for your thoughts and understanding. I am Serbian by nationality but this does not define me in any way. Strong people don't need national identities definitions to give them a sense of self. Only weak people always need to cling to differences. I am no more similat to any other Serbian person than to an Albanian person. We are all unique, Borders serve Good music knows no boundaries. GOod on you

  • Ma ovo je PREDIVNO!!!

Koliko tradicije, koliko emocija u ovim divnim glasovima.

    Puno hvala na ovom videu.

  • The third singer isn't Mara djordjevic It is Zora Drempetic a well known female singer from Serbia.

  • long live serbian and great song

  • Tears and emotions come when hearing the melody and words of these songs..

These are very old Serbian songs form Kosovo. My Grandmother used to sang this song while she was cleaning and taking care of the children. My mom sings them know.. and know I will sing them and teach them to my children ..

Kosovo is Serbian and will stay Serbian.. We are proud and we will teach our children that Kosovo is Serbian! The world will see on one day

Greetings for all Serbs around the world!

    Kosovka

  • The third singer is Mara Djordjevic....Beautiful song from Kostana, the drama written by Borisav Stankovic

  • i m from serbia and i love scotland too

  • God Bless Serbia. I know the world has lied about you just as they lied about Jesus. You have been victimized just as he was victimized. You have been insulted just as he was insulted. You have been violated just as he was violated. The good people of this earth know the truth and we know you are innocent as he was innocent. All I ask is that they be forgiven for their sins against you as we ask their sins to be forgiven against our Lord. Bless Serbia. All my love from Scotland.

  • Thank you PeelTower for this coment!!!

  • you are good man,

  • What about Srebrenica and Vukovar? Who are the victims? Who is the aggressor?

  • @PeelTower as an englishman with a serbian father i second that

  • Way to go, Celtic bro! :-)))

  • una melodia que te llega al corazon

  • May God protect Serbia and her wonderful culture. May Serbians preserve what God has given them! You are NOT alone!

  • I am from Scotland and I love Serbia too.

  • im from ireland and i think serbias a brilliant country . Belgrades just beautiful too . Will return again this year .

  • joksimo idi u picku materinu i ti i svi crnogorci glupavi
