But I have just tried it on my girlfriends old Sony CRT and it works perfect!! I can only think that my HDTV has a fussy fucking input voltage circuit, basically it's too clever for its own good, and doesn't like the foreign signal, even though it could display it if it wanted to.
It doesn't look promising for your HDTV linked up to the jamma, but hey it looked SWEET as hell in your arcade cab man!!! Shame you can't have it working on big screen though man.
what a totally cool looking game, I can see why you got it. You know, I'm no electronics expert, but I have been having a very similar issue with my new JP Saturn (while I wait to fix the one I blew up the other day). The JP saturn pushes out a slightly lower voltage signal through RGB Scart (probably equivalent of S-Video) and as a consequence my HDTV reverts to a composite signal instead of RGB, which is blurrier. Some people just get black and white images or blue/green. TBC..
I know it seems like an obvious question but have you tried both s-video and composite outputs? Also for testing it'd be good to have an old Commodore RGB monitor to hook up to. I'd wager your TV though is expecting a component input since the colour data is carried on green in this setup. Have you checked your TV settings?
its real hard to find a commodore monitor around here i would kill for one.... i tried all out puts on all my tvs and have had mixed results wit all of them.... al the other boards i have work fine on my hdtv through both video inputs... obviously svideo works much better
@dankss Hmm. I'd like to say the sync on this game is just higher (or lower) than your TV likes but MAWS recons it's dead on 60hz. Maybe the RGB levels are higher than most games, it does look overly colourful on your CRT.. have you tried adjusting the levels on your supergun?
i have not tried adjustings the color levels.... perhaps i should but i dont wanna change the settings for one game then readjust for my others... im in quite a pickle...
@dankss That's the joy of owning JAMMA boards man, they were never made to truly be plug and play or swapped out like a console, every time I plug a new game into one of my cabs I have to adjust the picture size, brightness levels and often colour levels too. Not too sure if that really is your issue but could be worth a try just to rule it out.
@dankss Looking around it seems the video ground isn't connected on the boards, so it might be an idea to try hooking that up and seeing if that makes a difference (just solder a wire on your harness from ground to video ground pin). An XRGB will be the easiest (and most expensive) solution though, it basically re-encodes the video for use on newer monitors.
yea i know about that and the wire is connected already.... so that rules out that problem especially because it runs fine on my crt..... i need an xrgb
Glad to see it working man, I think superdeadite sums it up well though. You really need a nice CRT or RGB monitor for the best quality and compatibility for playing arcade boards through a supergun. If you want to try installing a sync cleaner it won't cost you very much but an XRGB on the other hand will, way more than the purchase of a nice local tube. Hope you get something sorted out as I know you want to play that game pretty bad.
I can tell you for certain though that the Japanese units (including the modern Sigma's) do NOT have a Sync Cleaner installed.
Installing one may possibly help, but it might not either. CRT is the best way. Only other option really is to get an XRGB-3, but again it might not work (only the old XRGB-1 and 2 truly support arcade boards). And they are expensive...
the thing is man i have absolutely zero room for a tube tv..... what exactly does an xrgb do.... do it convert hdtv to rgb? if so this would make alot of my systems run as clear as possible right? obviously i would need the systems modded to run rgb... try to explain how thy work if u can... thanks for your help man
Nice to see the battery is still alive :) It won't last forever though. I believe there is finally a do it yourself fix though thankfully. Now that I know the battery is alive, it's certainly the HDTV. HDTVs SUCK for classic games. Especially with arcade boards that were designed for an RGB monitor. This is why I hold onto my 100lbs beast Sony HD-CRT. :) Best of both worlds.
whats up man. idk how to send a PM so im just writing in the comments. i think the problem is simply that the game isn't compatible with your HD tv. i know if you play an n64 game on a widescreen tv the graphics get messed up...might be a similar case here. also, i dont know if you got my earlier message, but i watched your ps2 repair video, and you saved me 60 bucks. ps2 works like a charm because of you. thanks for all the help, hope what i said helps...
well first off im glad to hear i was able to help yet another person revive their ps2... If you ever have any other retro related issues let me know and ill try to help or guide you to someone who can... You may be right about the arcade board... Although the supergun i have hooked up should adapt all boards to work but perhaps not with a modern hdtv.... im going to start looking around for a crt tv that i could use but i hardly have any space for one...

Also, do you have any other games you can test with or have you played anything else (JAMMA) with success on your HDTV?
