you use them to filter out different colors, you try to pick an obnoxious color that isn't in the scene that much or at all, so bright green or bright blue. i'm assuming there was too much green, so they went with blue for a couple shots. =)
If they wanted it to look real, they would have found a place in real life, hire a bunch of people, refit some outpost areas and then shot it there. They could have avoided building entire sets just to accomodate the scenes. The point was that it was made to look like the original 300 made by Frank Miller not real life history. If this was made to look like history, then they would have included the other Greek soldiers who were also there before. Learn something, noob.
This part of the documentary teaches a little about story telling. I think, then, it is the most invaluable part to those who are into film making or who are graphic artists.
