  • how long is the frosting good for if stored in refrigerator?

  • @takaswife I would be confident in storing it in the refrigerator about 1 week.

    --Betty :)

  • my inlaws told me the salt "binds" the frosting and makes it stiffer. Is that true/?

  • @tinkerbellybabe I've never heard that, but it may be correct.

    --Betty :)

  • Betty what if I don't have a electric mixer could I just use a spoon and could you tell me how much grams of butter do I need to use thanks

  • how many cups is 16 oz?

  • @TaylorSelenaROX Two cups = 16 oz.

    __Betty :)

  • Thanks Betty!!!!!! :D

  • If I take some turbinado sugar, grind it into a powder, and use it instead of confectioner's sugar, do you think it'd work out okay?

  • @ilinaeternity I've never tried that. Maybe someone will answer.

    --Betty :)

  • Can I use salted butter ? :)

  • @blessingtan Yes, I normally use salted butter.

    --Betty :)

  • @bettyskitchen Thanks so much ! xx

  • @bettyskitchen me too i use salted butter it tastes a lot better

  • Hey Betty this recipe looks awesome! I don't know why but I hate the taste of butter in a buttercream. I tried different recipes but I just didn't like the taste. Do u have a recipe that doesnt have any butter. K thanks ;)

  • @kidsreview1 You have to have something like butter: margarine, Crisco, etc. for buttercream frosting.

    --Betty :)

  • @kidsreview1 royal icing probably;y if you don't like butter

  • is there a way to make the frosting white? will it taste the same if i use shortening?

  • @Kino1124 Yes, you may use a white shortening like Crisco, and omit the vanilla or substitute a clear almond extract or other alternative for flavor.

    --Betty :)

  • Do I have to use cream cheese or can I skip that part

  • @lopez212451 You don't need to use cream cheese.

    --Betty :)

  • I was looking for something easy .....niceee!!! Thank u

  • can you freeze buttercream?

  • Congrats on your most popular recipe. This is probably the best Buttercream Frosting Recipe on youtube!

  • hi betty i love your videos, i was wondering if you think that this amount of frosting will cover a four layer round cake or if you think that i should double the recipe thanks

  • @MsSinger991 I would double it, so that it will not have a thin icing.

    --Betty :)

  • Is the buttercream suppose to look yellow? Or white? Thanks! ;)

  • I think you should do Betty's fashion because you always look wonderful. :) big smiles from the Uk.

  • Do you know how many cups of confectioners sugar is in one pound? Thanks for the video, btw.

  • @cheamannn 3 3/4 cups = 1 pound.

    --Betty :)

  • hey bettsy csn i use vanilla ice cream instead of vanillla extract

  • @mahima925 You may omit the vanilla extract, or substitute another flavor, like lemon or almond.

    --Betty :)

  • how much butter is in a butter stick plis need to know quickly :) x

  • @sweetgirl19071999 1 stick butter = 1/4 pound or 4 ounces.

    --Betty :)

  • @bettyskitchen thanx alot :D

  • what is the difference between confectionary sugar and normal sugar

  • @BlondeXchickKxx Confectioner's sugar is very white and powdery. It is also called powdered sugar or icing sugar.

    --Betty :)

  • can we use droopy vanilla or liquid

  • @firegirl3371 Yes.

    --Betty :)

  • I use Carnation evaporated milk. I find it makes a better taste, and costintency. Plus you can save the extra carnation for snow punch! Getting cold! I`d sort of forgot how to make the frosting, But this was a great tutorial. I`d forgot the basics! And by the way, I`m a 49 yr. old man! Ha Ha!

  • kann ich auch lebensmittelfarbe reinmachen?

  • @raihanejaan96 Yes--you may use any food color that you like.

    --Betty :)

  • will the frosting harden afterwards or it will remain at a creamy consistency?

  • @warisah2709 It will form a slight crust, but it will not be a hard icing.

    --Betty :)

  • do you use unsalted butter or salted?

  • @MyRadioStar I used salted butter, but you may use either in this recipe.

    --Betty :)

  • Wow making buttercream is so simple!

  • My frosting came out a little to sweet what should I do

  • @LilGenius220 This is a sweet frosting, and it needs the full amount of confectioner's sugar for consistency. I would switch to a frosting like cream cheese frosting to lower the proportion of sugar to the other ingredients.

    --Betty :)

  • @bettyskitchen thanks for responding one more thing i was blending it to the right consistency but i cold still feel the sugar and i followed all your instructions what should i do

  • Hi Betty, thanks for the recipe. I was wondering if this frosting would be good on your lovely red velvet cake?

  • @disizanewme Yes, it would be great on the Red Velvet Cake.

    --Betty :)

  • @bettyskitchen Thanks for always responding so quickly. I love all of your videos, and seeing your lovely outfits=).

  • thanx my mom is doing that for her wedding

  • @bettyskitchen Hi! Can I use it to frost Victoria Sponge cake? Since I'm baking one for my baby brother's 1st birthday. Please reply. Thank you so much! I can't even find a good recipe to do so :( Thank you again!

  • Hi! Can I use it to frost Victoria Sponge cake? Since I'm baking one for my baby brother's 1st birthday. Please reply. Thank you so much! I can't even find a good recipe to do so :( Thank you again!

  • @cookianful I think sponge cake is too light to accept this style of frosting. I would choose a sugar glaze instead. You can find a recipe for it in bettyskitchen.

    --Betty :)

  • hey there betty :) could i use something instead of icing sugar?

  • @TheAwesomeOnes98 *confection sugar

  • @TheAwesomeOnes98 It has to be icing sugar (confectioner's sugar or powdered sugar).

    --Betty :)

  • Can you use water instead of the milk?

  • @FloatingOnADream Yes, water is fine.

    --Betty :)

  • I don't use vanilla extract because it has alcohol in it, what else can i use instead?

  • @memeteora1 We are able to get imitation vanilla, which doesn't have alcohol. You might look for that.

    --Betty :)

  • the size of your butter stick is it equal out to a 1/2 cup of butter?

  • @taylorswiftrox2121 Yes, one stick of butter equals 1/2 cup.

    --Betty :)

  • @taylorswiftrox2121 thank you im going to try this recipe tonight thank you :)

  • can it be any type of vanilla extract?please answer

  • @CrazyEnora231 Yes, it may be any type of vanilla extract.

    --Betty :)

  • how many grams is 1/2 cup butter ??

  • @xMUSICxQUEEN 113 grams (google is your friend).

    --Betty :)

  • Hi Betty,

Thanks for the recipe, but can i pipe roses with this?

    Thank you!

  • @stillfiguringout96 Yes, you will want it to be stiff, so you'll need plenty of sugar. Some people don't like it that sugary.

    --Betty :)

  • I tried this and mine turned out like a glaze! :(

  • @BlameDaCookie It will need more icing sugar, if it is runny.

    --Betty :)

  • unsalted butter or just butter?

  • @xxcationxx Either will be fine. I used salted butter.

    --Betty :)

  • Thanks this video help me so much

  • i was wondering if you need to chill the butter cream and if so how long?

  • can you use 2% milk or 1% milk?

  • @LoVeSydneyyy yes. the lower in fat the milk will be, the less richer the flavor..but it won't ruin the frosting.

  • I'm just wondering betty,how many cups is 1lb?

  • @badbabe667 I pound of confectioner's sugar = 3 3/4 cups.

    --Betty :)

  • Betty how can I also use this to make it a chocolate butter cream. what chocolate or cocoa powder would you recommend. thank you

  • @seanviv2 Use any brand of cocoa powder (no sugar added). Start with about 1/4 cup and stir that in and increase from there to the chocolate taste that you prefer.

    --Betty :)

  • jeez i wish you were my grandma <3

  • @JustKidsInTheKitchen I have lots of YouTube grandchildren! Join the club!

    --Betty :)

  • I dont understand why everytime i make buttercream frosting, the frosting looks weird after awhile. I did follow exactly what is in the recipe but it will have tiny white spots in there and it looks gross. How do i make it smooth and creamy? Is it because of the butter? Or the sugar?

  • @KEENS9 I think the white spots must be the confectioner's sugar. You can fix that by sifting the sugar.

    --Betty :)

  • thank you for the recipe, i realy liked it :)

  • @hyperflare10 Thanks!

    --Betty :)

  • Betty I just watched the 20/20 video on ABC news. I want to thank you and congratulate you and rick for doing so well on YouTube. Please keep it up. I also like how you respond to everyone comments (or try to). Thanks again -ballietbran

  • @ballietbran Thanks for your lovely comment! I appreciate it so much!

    --Betty :)

  • I've got a question : is that confectioners sugar the same with powder sugar?

  • @imalive19 Yes.

    --Betty :)

  • @bettyskitchen thank you for your reply and for sharing your recipe!

  • @imalive19 I'm glad to!

    --Betty :)

  • Hi, I have tried making frosting many times but I have never tried yours. Whenever I make frosting, my frosting tastes like nothing but the powdered sugar, i dont know why. i follow the exact recipe... Do u know why this happens? I'm gonna give yours a try.

  • @Javier32101 It would be because the amount of powdered sugar is out of proportion with the butter. I think the combination in this recipe is just right.

    --Betty :)

  • can i use pure cane sugar instead of confectioner's sugar?

  • @CookieMnsta521 I have never tried that. Some viewers have said that you can put regular sugar in a blender and blend it, and it will turn into powdered sugar. You might want to try that.

    --Betty :)

  • could you tell me the quantity of the ingredients in kilograms? it would be so useful if anyone could help me! thank you :)

  • does anyone know how much butter betty put in? I know she said one stick but there are different sizes to butter sticks, if anyone can help that'd be great

  • @TheWhiteRabbit100 1 stick of butter is 1/4 pound.

    --Betty :)

  • Thanks for this upload! i needed to find a good tasting and textured buttercream to make my first fondant cake. You did the trick ! =]

  • @MbLeClair Thanks for your sweet comment! I really appreciate it!

    --Betty :)

  • Brave to be in black and use confectioner's sugar.... <3

  • @WhiltiernaAria I never really think about those things; I'm pretty careful when I'm in the kitchen! Thanks for your comment!

    --Betty :)

  • @bettyskitchen lol Thanks for posting the video! I learned something today and your butter-cream definitely was the tastiness! However, I found buttercream with shortening looked better with my dye.

  • @WhiltiernaAria Thanks for your sweet comment!

    --Betty :)

  • @bettyskitchen I'd just liked to say that your videos are really interesting, and really informative. Thank you! :)

  • @BooksAndOtherStuff I appreciate your great comment! You are very welcome for the recipes!

    --Betty :)

  • Betty, have you ever attempted to recreate the famous Cinnabon cinnamon rolls?

  • @1488slav I was thinking of making Cinnamon rolls, but I had not thought about the Cinnabon variety--I'll have to look that up.

    --Betty :)

  • @bettyskitchen if you lookup on google "Clone of a Cinnabon" , its the first result, the frosting is similar to the one you made in this video

  • @1488slav Okay--I will look it up! Thanks!

    --Betty :)

  • This looks nice and thick, looks good for making buttercream roses! Thanks for the recipe!

  • @augustflower1 You're welcome! I hope you enjoy the recipe!

    --Betty :)

  • Thanks for the recepie! I'm not from the States and butter here comes in different size of package than you are using. Can you tell me how much a stick of butter weights?

  • @Chatheryna We get 4 sticks in a pound of butter, so 1 stick = 1/4 pound.

    --Betty :)

  • hi if you dont have confectioners sugar what can you use in stead?

  • @gymnasticsxoxogirl10 Some people have told me that you can put regular sugar in a food processor or blender and blend until it becomes powdery. I have never personally tried that.

    --Betty :)

  • @bettyskitchen Ok thanks i was looking it up and it said i can do that so thanks!:)

  • @bettyskitchen oh my thank you betty! it works!!!!

  • @kiekie84 Thanks for your great feedback! I really appreciate it!

    --Betty :)

  • I always get bitter flavour in my cream cheese and buttercream frosting =(

And I think it is the vanilla essence.. I cannot find vanilla extract anywhere..

Is there a difference between them ? And can I replace them with anything to give me a fuller tastier vanilla flavour ?

  • @lifeline86 There is probably some different in the strength, If you don't like the taste of the vanilla essence and you can't find vanilla extract, you can actually leave the flavoring out, or possibly change to something like almond extract.

    --Betty :)

  • @bettyskitchen Actually, I love vanilla flavour.. I found out some vanilla flavour in the form of powder.. I mix it with water and it has a nice vanilla taste.. Unfortunately, it is not very rich.. But anyways, Thank you so much !

  • how many cups of confectioners suger is in there

  • @epicmickeymouse123 16 ounces of confectioner's sugar is about 3 3/4 cups.

    --Betty :)

  • @bettyskitchen thank you muchly

  • Can I use it for making roses? Thankyou!

  • @anamanole100 I think it might be too soft for roses; I have not tried them with this frosting.

    --Betty :)

  • Can you use this when you use fondant??

  • @1meximan Yes, a lot of people put if over fondant and find it to be very successful.

    --Betty :)

  • your right betty mine looks fantastic me and my sister's been using it,THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

  • @kikayghurl12 Thanks for the lovely feedback! I really appreciate it!

    --Betty :)

  • @bettyskitchen does the frosting taste like confectioner sugar when i make previous frosting it taste like confectioner sugar doe syours?

  • @theshowstopper96 It's sweet, but I wouldn't say that it tastes like confectioner's sugar. You can try putting less confectioner's sugar in.

    --Betty :)

  • Comment removed

  • @kikayghurl12 3 drops of food coloring will not make the frosting melt. You may add more confectioner's sugar to stiffen the frosting.

    --Betty :)

    --Betty :)

  • Hi Betty, this looks great! Could I use this under marshmallow fondant? And if yes, would it be a problem being not refrigerated for 2 days? I understand that fondant should not be refrigerated, but I think buttercream frosting should be refrigerated? Please help, thanks!

  • @ThePinkLibra Buttercream frosting is generally refrigerated. If it is totally covered with fondant, then I don't think there would be a problem in letting it sit for 2 days.

    --Betty :)

  • @bettyskitchen Thanks, Betty! I am going to try your buttercream recipe tomorrow. I hope this buttercream will not turn all greasy and melted coz I live in a tropical country where it's rather hot and humid....
