  • what about guns with leather piston seals? 3-in-1 oil bad for spring guns?

  • @kumquatsta

You need to follow the directions given by the manufacturer. I'm not terribly up with how to deal with leather seals. All my guns have the modern seals.

  • hello Rick, I will admit to being alittle lax with barrel cleaning on any of my air rifles, but I do add some crosman pelletgun oil on the spring and in the chamber when needed. The idea being the build up of lead in the barrel would give tighter groups as the pellets would be constricted slightly, but of course this would mean less grab from the rifling grooves. I have friends who never clean their .22LR for this same reason with mixed results.

    Cheers

  • @theplaid1

It is a mixed bag of results.. my thinking is this.. as the pellet moves through a dirty barrel, lead is stripped from the pellet. Even if only in minute amounts, this causes the pellet to be out of balance when spinning, like a tire weight. You don't need much to make a very big difference. More lead in the barrel usually means more lead is removed as the pellet heads down the bore. At least that is my theory.

    Cheers

  • Nothing wrong with a little maintenance.

  • Rick, Pyramidair has an app for smart phones which is real cool. It has calculaters for just about everything one would use in airguns.

  • It's been a long time my friend. I have both a rifle and pistol that are springers. I will use this information to keep them up to par.

  • @kriegmeister3000

Glad this video has helped. I enjoyed putting this one together.

    Rick

  • @AirGunWeb I have read on various sites that regularly cleaning the barrel and all other parts of a springer are not necessarily needed to keep it shooting, just taking care of the chamber is needed.

    Is this true?

  • @harriet807

there are a lot of people with a lot of opinions out there. I used the RWS kit with and RWS rifle for a reason. They make the gun, they make the Kit. I figure they are the ones that know best on how to maintain it. I will say that following this method will not hurt your spring gun. On the other hand, it is also true that these are essentially "maintenance free" for the most part. It is all very subjective.

    Clear as mud no?

    Rick

  • Long time no see!!!

It’s about 4 weeks from de last video. In this period of time I was concerned. What happened whit Rick?

Now! I now … it is the new fresh lock. lol lol lol. (I hope has not been anything serious!) Another great video of Rick. (Do not forget to make a video of how to clean a fixed barrel (spring or pcp))

    Best regards

  • What about fixed barrels such as the Gamo CFX .177. I had bought a gamo cleaning kit, but the push rod broke on the first cleaning I tried. It did not want to push through the barrel.

  • @redline1953

The CFX and CFR can be tricky. You have to come from the front of the gun vs pushing from the breach. You need a flexible jag also so that you don't bend things when it his the breach tray.

    Rick

  • Is that a Sumatra in the background? It's beautiful... :D. Your new look looks great too lol.

  • @lambchops1493

it is .357 Big Bore.. I hope to have that video out in December.. should be fun!

    Rick

  • Nice video Rick, and nice beard too. ;)

  • Great vid Rick. Quick ?. Even after cleaning my daisy 1000s springer, I just dont see how I can use the artillery hold in conjunction with a tripod rest for field hunting.

  • @pyrochargerfan

Using a bi-pod is a generally not going to work with a spring gun. You need to just master the artillery hold and forget the bi-pod.

    Rick

  • @AirGunWeb m benjamin super streak seamed to get along very good with a bipod but not the barrel kind no break barrels ive had has liked those

  • @alrodrodriguez

If you can find the right mounting point and install a sling stud and then a bipod to the stock, you can have some success.. I'm hoping to get my trail setup that way to see if it will work correctly.

    Rick

  • @AirGunWeb i mounted the stud at the same point that your front hand would be using the artillery hold and that seemed to do the trick

  • @alrodrodriguez

I'm trying that with my Trail NP.. not had great success but it is worth trying.

    Rick

  • @AirGunWeb try putting the bipod on backwards like with the legs towards you when its closed so that it lets the gun recoil and doesnt force the shot somewhere else

  • @alrodrodriguez

Yep.. tried that.. I'm just not getting the same groups as I get when I shoot using the artillery hold.

    Rick

  • @AirGunWeb may be the gas piston just isnt compatible with bipods

  • My airgun has a nitro piston. Is there maintenence that needs to be done on that?

  • @ds10363

It is about the same.. you can skip step 5 as there is no "spring" that needs oil.

    Rick

  • I'm an advocate of nothing gets into the chamber than moly grease. I wouldn't pour any liquid inside the chamber.

  • @bfgguns

I generally agree with you. If you are able to take the gun apart and rebuild it with moly on a regular basis it is much better. But, if you don't have a spring compressor or the inclination to void your warranty, then this is a good method. I know there are some that will strongly disagree and that is certainly their option. Given that RWS produces this kit and recommends it for their guns, then I feel it is safe to use.

    Cheers

    Rick

  • Thank you Rick. I bought the RWS 34 on your recommendation and I was hoping you would do a maintenance video. That gun has exceeded my expectations for power and accuracy.

  • Great job!
