Words cannot express the depth of emotion I feel each time I watch/listen to this video...I cannot speak for all the hidden children, but I can speak for myself, being one of them...the work this man did to bring us home to our true faith...just the thought brings me to tears again. thank you so much for showing me this video. It touches at the deepest and most tender of levels. Shema Yisroel...Hannah
to holoskolviv1- there are no words to express the gratitude to your family for saving Jews. you're great grandfather's reward was very great in Heaven. blessings from Israel
Every time we say Shema we cover out eyes, for better concentration, and for fulfilling the necessary thought, every Jewish child is being educated with that from the very beginning, it becomes and instinctive act.
Does anyone know how to write shema yisroel? I searched for it but it's different everywhere... שמע ישראל that's how I think it is but does anyone else knows how it should be written? ( apologies for my english )
Amazing song, amazing story. We should thank all that have saved the Jewish children, no matter their religion. And, we should thank G-D always for helping us persevere thru generations of persecution and misunderstanding of the beauty and goodness of the Jewish people and religion.
those who took in jewish people as well as children did so at great peril to themselves and loved ones . individuals as well as the church were very heroic. the highest of honor to them ,as well as praise.. hashem sorts everything out in the end.....
I am not Jewish but I went to the Holocaust memorial in Washington DC and found the name of my buddy's grandfather in the database. It was haunting to me to think the ancestor of a person who I respect and am friends with went through. That was when it hit home for me.
I was hesitatent to listen to Judaism's 10 Fundamental Laws, but I knew I had to listen to see if it was valid or false information. I am so happy to know it is right on the mark! Thank you for posting it
I left the church because I knew the Shabbat is THE only day to honor "the one God above". But I floundered for years since I was not "Jewish", yet I would not do the things I was taught in the church. Then I learned about the dispersion of the 10 tribes of Northern Israel. I read how Jacob adopted out Ephraim and Manasseh in Gen 48. They were Hebrew children raised in and as Egypt. I believe, like this song, and like Ephraim, I am Israel raised in captivity and I search for my identity.
@elskid206 I don't know where you got your information but they were not adopted out. They were the children of Yosef. He lived with his wife, and children, in Egypt.
i was raised to be a denial of the holocost. I have meet in person the survivors. It absolutely happened. Now i am also jewish, reconstructionist, a jew with a true heart and soul.
WOW! It just never gets old. I can put this video in my favorites and then listen to it 2-3 months later, still new, still makes me raw, still I admire the courage of the Rabbi and thank G-d for hearing his cry and letting him know what to do to rescue the Children! Great!
@holoskolviv1 I hope your great-grandparents were honoured at Yad Vashem. All Righteous Among Nations should be named for the risks they took and the sacrifices they made. I never met them, but I am proud of them - we lost more than 50 relatives to the Nazi camps - if only there were more people like your great-grandparents!
@holoskolviv1 wow! its so nice that they did that to 2 families! He is still im sure proud for what he did-and is definitally still being praised for it! you have an amazing grandfather-for being able to take such risk in the first place!
@holoskolviv1 you just brought a tear to me and my mothers eye, watching this video. Spread your love all over the world and always stand up for the Jewish nation. May God watch over you!
I was born German. My ancestors hurt the jewish people.I myself have decided to convert to Judaism because I love Hashem and the only truth of Judaism.Hashem is above all.
@Regenbogen3580 Than you i wish there were more people like you in the world I my self am Proud to Me a Jew and Im Very Happy and please u chose the right path
@Regenbogen3580 WhileI like your comment, if you convert because you are of German descent and the harm they caused, it is for the wrong reason. If you convert do so because it is the will of Hashem.
there are converts in the jewish religion although converting people is not done as part of the ideologies of the jewish faith.jews believe that all humankind can serve g-d to their fullest extent in the religion they were born into.thats what g-d wants from all of us.
@leah6449 If you have neshama, a Jewish soul, then conversion is a beautiful thing. A convert to Judaism is an amazing person to be loved and cherished by the community. It is the highest and most beautiful thing.
@leah6449 no matter what-jews cant convert-born a jew is always a jew-even if the decide to convert to some other religion-they are still a jew-it even says so in the bible....G-D told moses that, thats how He made it...
I believe that my hurt is one in the middle of this song because I can't stop of crying in all the song and the letter say many things about our lifes.
This song brought tears to my eyes the first time I heard it! And no, Jews, Christians and Muslims were never supposed to enemies, should not be enemies now and never should be enemies.
I don't know where you get your information from. Jews have been covering their eyes with their hands during the Shema for generations! Just look at the pictures from the Shoah that was over 60 years ago! I attended yeshiva over 40 years ago, and all the students, administration, covered their eyes during Shema. Maybe why there aren't many pictures of prayers, is because the Germans destroyed much of our history during WWII. Let's not forget as well the Catholic church all these years.
A message to my fellow Jews. Look thru all of history. Islam is not our enemy, Christianity is. Jews die by the many millions in countries that feature the freekin cross, namely, Christian Europe. The Crusades, the Inquisitions the Pogroms, The Holocaust. Today in the USA, the level of rightwing hatred is escalating. It didn't help that Bernie Madoff, 60Bil stolen, Jack Abramhof, 60 mil, Perle, Wolfowitz and the other neo-con scum war mongers, are all Jewish. A muslim never called me a kike!
@Loejyrrab Very true, Christianity has been much more antisemitic, ignoring the very words which they call Scripture. Romans 11 specifically says NOT to be antisemitic (condemning ALL of those acts of the "church") but instead to FEAR the living God, for if He did not spare the natural branches, neither would He spare them. In Matthew 7:15-23 Yeshua says to those supposed believers that "I never knew you, depart from me who workers of Lawlessness (without Torah)". Shema Yisrael!
@Loejyrrab Then you need to check out what's going on in a lot of areas, including the Middle East. There were also Muslim SS units during the Holocaust, and Hitler had the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem working with him. Make no mistake: Islam is a treat as much as Christianity is. The difference is that these days, Christianity targets Jews through conversion, whereas Islam doesn't hesitate to use physical violence. In days gone by it was different, but not now.
@AvivaHannah - i am very sad for such a cold saying. Many people, christians, risked their lives to help survive the jews, loving them,to stand with them against the evil. There is a big difference between being tolerant of each other understandig of torah a being violent and trying to destroy ysrael. Shame on you.
This is truly beautiful and so strong. It grips your heart right away. Blessed be this Rabbi that saved these children. I'm not Jewish but I do respect people's belief and religion, nothing is wrong and everything is right to believe in as long as you, yourself feel good about yourself and your own existence. This man did a good thing if the story is true, lets hope it is! :)
Shema Yisroel, thank you Lord for brinking me, home, for well-coming me home!. Thank you Lord. I ove you Lord, I love you, Israel! Shema Yisrael. Bless your heart for posting this song-testimony, made much sens to me, bringing me to tears, every time I listen!
It's said yisroel as short for bnai yisroel or sons of israel. Yaakov our forefather was called yisroel as wellas yaakov (Jacob). We are his descendents so we are the bnai yisroel.
You afraid of anyone and anything Israel, for behold,God is with you...always has been!God bless you....peace,peace, forever!!!(P.S:beautiful, pure, strong song)
This has really brought tears to my eyes. The Shema has always made me cry, both for the meaning, and the emotional relationship I have with it. I remember being taught it as a child, and I will ALWAYS remember, in Elie Wiesel's book "Night," all of the holocaust prisoners reciting the shema.
The covering of the eyes was to hide the face of the worshiper from the glory of G-d. This goes all the way back to Moses bringing the laws from the mountain. To look upon the glory of the Almighty was to invite death to the unworthy.
@Xpassiondream Cause Yisroel is the children of G-d, . Avram`s seed shall become like the sand of the sea, like the stars in heaven, no possible to count them. When YHWH said, Hear Yisroel, it was saying it to every person in the world, cause He is the only true Elokim.
everytime i hear this song, i feel as if it brings me closer to my yiddishkeit. through all the suffering, we are still here and will always be. leshana habaah beyerushalayim!
Wake up people ...This happened NOT a few hundred years ago ..this happened when most of our PARENTS were alive ..if not them then grandparents .. It still happens ..like in Darfur since Feb 2003.. we sit back in our safe homes ...filtered news reaches us ... AMAZING song... and to save ones life by losing yours is not Bravery ...... ITS LOVE
Christians kicked all Jews out of Spain, out of Italy, out of England or killed them. In Germany they did not give them the choice, they just killed them. The amazing thing is that they did this to the Jews who were not fighting these countries, they did it to keep their property for free. I don't know how it can be that Christians can do something like this. The Jew is a minority and Christians have hurt. My Christian friends tell me that if I don't believe in Jesus I'll go to hell.
Jews cannot conceive of a good G-d eternally torturing the vast majority of humanity for all eternity as is depicted in the Christian Hell. This is evil not good. We are all his children - mercy & compassion dictate otherwise. One simple belief or failure to believe cannot encompass the entirety of ones eternal reward for a lifetime of living.
the story may not be beautiful but the way its sung with passion and desire is amazing with such spiritual meaning - this is what makes it beautiful !
We need your help today to save the life of Martin Grossman who is set to be executed on February 16th. We are only advocating that he not get the death penalty at this time. We are asking that the Governor take the time to hold a proper clemency hearing to determine if the Death Penalty is really appropriate in this case. This may not be easy for you to go out of your way to try and save the life of someone who took someone elses
@endlessXsummer85 first it would help to know 'shema' is a jewish prayer said at night before sleep and while saying the prayer, the person would cover his/her eyes. i think the eyes are covered because its like talking to G-d. Alot of children get into the habbit of saying the prayer at night. during the holocaust when jews were persucuted many jewish families hid their young children in churchs and catholic and christian homes to protect them from death.
@endlessXsummer85 these children all but forgot their past, because theyre were so young. but after the war, a rabbi went through the churchs looking for the jewish children, even though he was told they were not there. he began to say 'shema' and all the jewish children, out of pure instinct covered their eyes and said shema too.they began calling out for their mothers to say the prayer with them.
@endlessXsummer85 because even after all those years they remembered who they really and truely were. the rabbi took the children to their proper homes and if their parents werent alive, made accomadations for them.
Very strange. I thought that the custom of covering one's eyes with the hand when saying the Sh'ma began only about 20 or so years ago.. I don't remember seeing this earlier. Also, all the pictures of people covering their eyes are relatively recent, in color, not black and white as they would have been just post-WWII. Any comments? Nice story, but....
@hipsycalit The custom is recorded in the Talmud. Rebbi Yehuda HaNasi (circa 250 CE) covered his face with his hand and said the first pasuk of Shma (Brachos 13b)
@hipsycalit No, covering your eyes during the Shema was around _way_ before WWII. It was around. . . when Shabbat laws were being created (the rabbinic ones), I believe, and that would be around when the Mishna and Gemara were compiled.
It tells how awesome the Heavenly Father worked and is still working right now...shma Yisrael, YHWH eloheinu, YHWH echad. YHWH melech ha olam.

@OTHJobro23
It's said yisroel as short for bnai yisroel or sons of israel. Yaakov our forefather was called yisroel as wellas yaakov (Jacob). We are his descendents so we are the bnai yisroel.

@Xpassiondream thts just the word Israel said in a more israeli/hebrew accent
OTHJobro23 1 year ago
@Xpassiondream Cause Yisroel is the children of G-d, . Avram`s seed shall become like the sand of the sea, like the stars in heaven, no possible to count them. When YHWH said, Hear Yisroel, it was saying it to every person in the world, cause He is the only true Elokim.

If you are Jewish and believe in Jesus you will go to hell unless you repent. Jesus was a Jew; not a God.

My Christian friends tell me that if I don't believe in Jesus I'll go to hell.
mgaus7 1 year ago 3
Jews cannot conceive of a good G-d eternally torturing the vast majority of humanity for all eternity as is depicted in the Christian Hell. This is evil not good. We are all his children - mercy & compassion dictate otherwise. One simple belief or failure to believe cannot encompass the entirety of ones eternal reward for a lifetime of living.

Can someone please tell me the actual story of this amazing song?
endlessXsummer85 2 years ago
It's the story of thousands of Jewish children during the the 2nd Wrold War
helpforyou2 1 year ago
@endlessXsummer85 first it would help to know 'shema' is a jewish prayer said at night before sleep and while saying the prayer, the person would cover his/her eyes. i think the eyes are covered because its like talking to G-d. Alot of children get into the habbit of saying the prayer at night. during the holocaust when jews were persucuted many jewish families hid their young children in churchs and catholic and christian homes to protect them from death.
OTHJobro23 1 year ago
@endlessXsummer85 these children all but forgot their past, because theyre were so young. but after the war, a rabbi went through the churchs looking for the jewish children, even though he was told they were not there. he began to say 'shema' and all the jewish children, out of pure instinct covered their eyes and said shema too.they began calling out for their mothers to say the prayer with them.
OTHJobro23 1 year ago
@endlessXsummer85 because even after all those years they remembered who they really and truely were. the rabbi took the children to their proper homes and if their parents werent alive, made accomadations for them.

Very strange. I thought that the custom of covering one's eyes with the hand when saying the Sh'ma began only about 20 or so years ago.. I don't remember seeing this earlier. Also, all the pictures of people covering their eyes are relatively recent, in color, not black and white as they would have been just post-WWII. Any comments? Nice story, but....

I guess you are not too familar with jewish customs!

Covering one's eyes while saying the first sentence has been done for a long time. :) The reason it's done is to help people concentrate.
stars1836 2 years ago
@hipsycalit The custom is recorded in the Talmud. Rebbi Yehuda HaNasi (circa 250 CE) covered his face with his hand and said the first pasuk of Shma (Brachos 13b)
mdtok 1 year ago 5
@hipsycalit - This is written into Jewish Law and is VERY old. I can quote you sources and dates, if you want.
andyandymax 1 year ago
@hipsycalit It started way before that. We do that so nothing distracts us
stars1836 1 year ago
@hipsycalit No, covering your eyes during the Shema was around _way_ before WWII. It was around. . . when Shabbat laws were being created (the rabbinic ones), I believe, and that would be around when the Mishna and Gemara were compiled.
