@efastMixer - Depends at which airport, Heathrow for example has a Surface Movement Radar (SMR), or it can be done procedurely, 'On Alpha short Echo' meaning taxi on taxiway Alpha but stop short of taxiway Echo

@awwa2020 awwa2020, pre 911 many airline carriers would allow passangers to view the cockpit during flight, obviously not all requests were granted. I think it would be highly unlikely in recent times to be invited into the cockpit of a commercial aircraft, unless you are in the industry.

Desertmark69, is that a Cat II? With such low visibility which,for god knows what nasty reason, seems lower at the minimums? x) Also note no autopilot disengaged sounds... I think that is a Cat III / autoland

what cruising altitude where you/they at during the flight because im going on the a330-200 to dubai next month

cruising altitude could be anywhere from 22000 to 37000 ft, decent can be initiated from 37000ft straight in to the thresh hold but normally when there is a busy airport you need to join the holding pattern and land in turns, its fun, i can see the holding pattern from my house, depending on the wind i know which entry RWY they are going to land on, they must cross my place at 2200ft on the glide slope

Hi Gents,

In response to Merrittevans. On an actual CAT II approach you will never see the runway lights (the green threshold lights). The captain looks for the approach lights system (Calvert system in most cases). In legal words : 3 lights are sufficient to continue the approach ... Just checked the FAR's and it's the same in the States. In Emirates a CAT II approach is flown the same way as a CAT III ... with an autoland. Pax safety comes first

While I have to say this is an amazing video and very well produced...In the US this would have been an illegal Cat II landing. If you were doing a Cat IIIb or an autoland then ok, but you are not allowed to land on a Cat II if you do not have the runway environment in sight (IE: the green runway end lights etc) at minima. I'm not familiar with ICAO minima however. Still a very nice video.

But,

ILS landing is the same as autoland

FL350 to FL390 are usualy the best. When you're light FL400 and FL410 can be used but not always optimum. But we do use them of course

While the approach was flown to Cat II callout standards, the lead-in lights seemed to come into view around Cat I altitude.

Was it hand flown, or a/p?

I use a Sony HVR-A1E using HDV footage.

This approach was flown in actual CAT II weather (RVR 400m and BKN at 125Ft) SOPs are to perform an autoland on low vis approach below CAT I weather. We don't have HUDs in Emirates unfortunately ... May come on our brand new A380s though ...

FYI CrazedMachine, The "autoland" function is programmedand certified at a specific vertical speed and within a specific distance. There is no "floating" or "long" landing ... and what does an ILS have to do with a long landing anyway ... ?
